“May those who betrayed us get what they deserve.” Ethan Jones has created another unputdownable action-packed thriller that offers a diverse and likable cast of characters, a diabolical villain/villains, and a remarkable doomsday scenario that will both frighten and amaze the reader. He is a master storyteller who keeps getting better and better. An engrossing and suspenseful thriller. Once you begin reading it is like a magnet and difficult to put down. Thoughtful, clever, poignant and thought-provoking in equal measure. A story of painful loss, resentment, vengeance..although I knew that some actions are wrong I couldn’t help but sympathize with the protagonist in his vengeful feelings, in spite of provoking international war episodes, a risk worth taking? The plot simmers with danger, betrayal and treachery, drawing the reader into the history of shady dealings and uneasy relationships between governments and their counterespionage agencies. The spying world is indeed uncertain, traitorous, you never know whom to trust, politicians full of corruption, greed for money and power...the author lets us see the realistic lifestyle and background of how secret intelligence agencies work, a dangerous and exciting worldview. It’s a showcase and of a world that we barely know of. I didn’t want the book to end and already wanted to read the next installment, which I hope comes out soon! I highly recommend this series! I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and my review is entirely voluntary.
This story leaves off where the other one ended. Javin is back in Canada where he has been oplaced on leave while a committee is reviewing the events that occurred on his last assignment. While he is waiting, he receives a request from Mila to help in locating a Russian Defector who has traveled from the U.S. to Canada. He agrees to help her as long as she will help him to resolve issue that arose during his last mission where a team mate, YaeL, was killed.
His mission takes him to Qatar, China, Syria and Iraq.
If you want to learn what his mission is in each of these areas and how they all wind up, then you will need to read the book. You will also want to learn how he and Liberty interact. The ending tells it all.
Has he gone rouge? Has he finally snapped from stress? Has he found a reason to live? How many favours can he ask for to feel retribution has been served? Is this his last hurrah? Has he gone too far?
Another fantastic story from this Author, only thing I didn't like was his girl friend, she's too "needy" for a man in his profession, but other than that, excitement all the way.
Ethan Jones starts Counterblow out with a bang (note, no shots were fired.)
Javin Pierce is in CIS Headquarters when he gets a call from Russian SVR agent, Mila; but she was supposed to be dead. She's asking Javin for a favor and they are to meet in a couple of days.
His partner, Claudia, was nearby and couldn't help herself to overhear the call. Javin doesn't want to involve her in the favor.
However, Javin is on temporary leave due to his previous operation where he was betrayed and in which his fellow Mossad operator partner was killed. He wants revenge for her death, but his boss told him to stand down. But Javin plans to continue his vendetta with an unsanctioned operation.
Within days, Javin returns to Washington, D.C. and meets with his girlfriend Liberty. While there and touring the sites, he does his best to explain he has to leave to meet Mila. She is not happy about it because they were not supposed to be interrupted during this trip.
From then on it's gangbusters. The favor? Mila asks Javin to help her hunt for an SVR traitor. Javin is off to China to meet with Fang, an esteemed hacker. Then Javin and Mila are off to the middle east begin his vendetta.
All of these missions are fraught with danger that involves the Chinese, Mossad, and Javin's opposing enemies.
Hop aboard as it's going to be an exciting adventure that's going to be very hard to put down!
Counterblow Javin Pierce Spy Thriller #7 By Ethan Jones
Javin Pierce is determined to see justice done. But what he calls justice some might call revenge. In his last op everything went wrong - they were betrayed and it resulted in the death of one of his team members. Javin won't forget what Mossad did to one of their own and he is going to make them pay for Yael's death.
But for his off-the-books-unsanctioned mission Javin will have to turn to those not with CIS. It helps to have if not friends at least acquaintances with assets but this is going to cost Javin. And if he doesn't survive it may cost him his standing with CIS, as in permanently out of the agency.
This book really needs to be read as part of the series and at the very least read after book 6 Deception as both are very closely tied together with their story-line. One without the other will be a serious lack of needed information for full enjoyment. And a word of warning never betray a former Corrector of the CIS you may not live to regret it.
This is yet another action-packed thriller from Ethan Jones which is refreshingly (like his other titles) free of profanity-laced language, graphic depictions of violence, and sexual situations. Highly recommended reading for fans of international intrigue who want a few hours of escape.
I received a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I offer my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.
Javin Pierce is a hot-blooded, hot-headed agent of the CIS, (a 'super Mountie' who always gets his man or woman) and never leaves a mission incomplete.
Loyal to his country and to his fellow agents, but most of all to his loved ones, Javin is determined to get revenge hot, heavy and as soon as possible, when a former lover appears to have been compromised and taken out by her Mossad handlers. The re-apoearance of Mila, whom he'd been told was dead is a real game-changer for Javin, as he has to choose between old and new loves and go against his orders, to prove that those he targets 'off-grid', (with Mila's help), deserve his - and the CIS' ultimate justice.
Get your copy as soon as you can - it'll make you completely forget your Covid-19 fears and Lockdown Blues, from the minute you start to read Ethan Jones's fantastic new all-action thriller, Counterblow til long after the last page has ended!
How do you spell revenge? Counterblow, that’s how! Javin is under investigation for a past operation. Pending the results, he takes some leave to get out of dodge & have some time to spend with his sweetie, Liberty. But, you know Javin. He has an obligation to right wrongs, like friends being killed, & he doesn’t care whose toes he steps on. After time with Liberty, he gets in touch with friends, a CIS operative in China, & his old friend Mila from the Russian SVR. He works out an incredible operation (unsanctioned) & sets out to avenge Yael’s (his Mossad friend) death & Claudia’s (his CIS collegue) suffering. As is the norm with Javin, you’ll be whisked around the globe in search of the bad guys. No spoilers here … if you want to find out when, where, what & how (and whether or not he’s successful in his mission), you’ll have to read the book -- & I recommend that you do!
Counterblow is the 7th book in the Javin Pierce spy thriller and another Awesome adventurous read by Ethan Jones and as usual does not disappoint.
Mr Jones has an uncanny ability by constantly surprising me with the direction the story line leads and Javin can’t seem to get a break when he gets an unexpected call from someone who is supposed to be dead and shortens his time from Liberty to help them.
Love that the Author makes me feel like I’m in the middle of the action along with Liberty, Mila and Fang and Has me on one hell of a roller coaster ride and was shocked by the ending
Thank you Mr Jones for another awesome adventure and the need to find out where Javin’s from here and if Liberty remains a constant in the future.
I highly recommend reading Deception before Counterblow to get a more complete understanding of what has lead Javin to this Point.
For a guy who is supposed to get in and out without leaving a trace, Javin certainly excels at causing mayhem and leaving carnage behind. There is no shortage of action as Javin gets into trouble in several countries, this time without the approval or backup of the CIS. There are several surprising twists and throughout the book I kept trying to decide whether Javin was going to keep his job, get fired or quit on his own. I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 because I just couldn’t bring myself to believe Javin saw Yael as a friend, never mind someone he’d risk his career for, given the way he viewed her in previous books in the series. If your main reason for reading is all the action, the book doesn’t disappoint. And Javin gets to play with a cool new toy in this one.
With this latest instalment in the Javin Pierce action thriller series Ethan Jones takes his hero out on his own with an unsanctioned mission all about revenge. I love this author's action scenes, one of the main reasons I keep coming back to his work, and there are plenty of those in this book but there’s a more tense feel to this one for me. Given that Pierce is out for revenge for those that killed a colleague that’s to be expected. Ethan Jones keeps the tension, or more properly suspense, high the whole way through. It’s a globe spanning tale of spy against spy that’s so fast paced I couldn’t stop reading it. Before you know it you’ll be at the end. Overall, another great action thriller from a master of the genre, highly recommended.
As usual, Ethan’s books pull the reader in at once on a wild roller coaster ride. While some may be put off by scenarios are over the top and highly unlikely, they probably didn’t like the James Bond adventures either. I read for escape and entertainment and these books do not disappoint. In this story, Javin goes rogue to avenge the death of an agent friend after they were ambushed by her organization. Is it highly unlikely a small force can pull off the capers involved? Yeah. Is it likely they’ll all be killed before the mission gets very far along? Yeah. Is it an entertaining and fun read? YEAH! Be ready to lose some sleep because you can’t stop turning pages!
I received an ARC of this book – this is my honest opinion. I also purchased a copy to support this great author.
This is a brilliant story and as usual I would expect no different from Ethan Jones. Javin seems to have come to a forced crossroads in his life. Plus he feels he has to right some wrongs even if it totally messes up his working life. He is a very honorable man and I really admire that part of his character. It cant be easy considering his line of work. His conscience wont let him leave well alone and he goes ahead and acts alone with unsanctioned missions. I wonder how he feels about his life and the decisions he has made? This is a very complex and I think for javin a soul searching story. it left me with lot to think about.
Javin Pierce is an agent in the Canadian CIS. He is being blamed for a botched prior mission that was not his fault. Corrupt Mossad agents killed one of their own. A dear and close friend of Javin's. She was murdered by one her own. Javin is on a forced leave of absence. The bureaucrats want someone to blame. Javin is out for revenge. With the help of a Russian covert agent, a close friend and a Chinese team who are risking their lives to help him the mission is on. Non stop action!!! Another excellent read by Ethan Jones. My highest recommendation!!
Ethan Jones gives us his latest Javin Pierce novel, providing yet another exhilarating and exhausting trip into the world of counterintelligence and espionage. The main character in this series, Javin, continues to be bound by personal conflict of heart, moral integrity, and duty, and in this book, Javin has become so conflicted he has gone rogue. Two interwoven missions going on simultaneously adds a significant depth to the action. Jones has a knack of offering up some really exciting novels and shorts, including the Justin Hall and Max Thorne series, so check them out as well.
Javin is put on leave due to what happened on the last op, which is being investigated. But he wants justice for his people because they were betrayed and people died. Then he gets a call from a Russian agent who requests his help in finding someone who my be in Canada. So he teams up with Mila after she agrees to help him with his project of justice. Lots of twists, turns and action. Keeps you on the edge of your seat and the book is hard to put down. Another great book by Ethan Jones. Looking forward to the next one.
How much conscience and moral fairness can a spy have when his country is run by politicians? Political deniability is the fallback position of any government is there agent is caught on a sanctioned mission that could compromise the country’s international relations. Sometimes your network of spy contacts seems more supportive than your own government. Lots of action, and covert operations in this book.
I don't know where to start to describe Javin's latest adventure. More than once I said, "Well, I didn't see that coming! " Javin is once again is off on a great adventure, unsanctioned this time. He has a knack of finding trouble and or getting into trouble, this book is no exception. A real page turner.
Another absolute thriller from the master story teller
Fast paced, moving story about a man on a mission to make the killer of his friends pay for their crimes. Starting in Canada, proceeding rapidly with much assistance, to the desert and Mossad. Will keep you reading til the last word.
Javin Pierce is an intriguing character. Sometimes he cleans up others' mistakes, sometimes he makes his own. A covert operative, Javin has his own sense of justice. His code of conduct doesn't always mesh with his agency's expectations. Each book in this series is strong. If action and intrigue pique your interest, this series is for you!
Another non-stop action thriller featuring Javin Pierce. This time it may be the end of his CIS career as he goes rogue, yet again. Will this be the end of Javin, or a new start for him and his new love...
Great story with Javin Pierce chasing revenge on his own, outside of CIS. Good story with some depth and plenty of action. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for Javin and Liberty.
This offering from Ethan Jones is fantastic and is giving the reader a glimpse into how he may take the future of this series in to a different direction. 5* is not enough
