My oh my, how does one man get himself in so many "situations"? Troy Clint Bodean is a brave and compassionate man. We follow him from Afghanistan through the south to Key West and back up to Martha's Vineyard and south again. Everywhere he goes, he runs into people he knows. One of the pleasures of having this box set was being able to binge read as many as I wanted in rapid succession. I am glad I did, because I am not sure I could have remembered the many people who flitted in and out of his life-mostly good people. Some were funny, many helpful, and some definite villains! I liked all the adventures-well except the last short story (Conch Wave). That one was too rushed and not as well developed as the others---due to being very short. But can't hold that against Troy (or author David Berens) because it was just a short layover when the bus broke down. Surprisingly the gruesome details of the books didn't turn me off. I think I was too anxious to see how Troy would pull the impossible off once again---and who he would meet along the way. An amazing value and loads of good reading!
Does no one proof read these novels? Police don’t use CB radios. One guy couldn’t lift the bodies because he was shot in the balls. He bled for two days. Then at the end he had his nose smashed and was shot in the right shoulder but managed to jump in a boat and throw a girl into his boat. Troy, the absent minded hero lost his gun that was in his waistband and didn’t realize it. Troy went to buy groceries with the girls money but didn’t have enough so had to use a 10% coupon. Then left the store, found five dollars and bought doughnuts. A few pages later he’s buying gas and beer. Where does the money come from ? He was always operating airplanes, boats or cars that ran out of fuel. The author has to get a lot more believable. Way too many of the same people in the story from Las Vegas to Key West to the Carolinas to Massachusetts. If the author writes a novel more believable maybe I’ll buy it to read.
This is a long collection, unlike some collections that are more like novellas most of these are a good length novel and as such represent tremendous value. The stories are all really interesting and well crafted and considering how long they are there are surprisingly few errors with regards to typos etc. I find lots of kindle books nowadays are strewn with errors which means having to re-read sections over and over to work out the meaning but pleasingly that's not the case with this collection. I enjoyed it immensely. The only negative for me is that the main character, Troy Bodean, just comes across as a drunken loser who is quite stupid. I won't go into detail because I don't want to give any spoilers but I just came away feeling a little sad that so many people had died who could have been saved if hadn't been such a moron.
An Entire Omnibus of Irony & Laugh-out-loud Silliness
If you remember Dave Barry and Big Trouble and loved it, this series is for you. Full of crazy characters, wacky, twisty plots and a loveable main Character. Bad things happen, but even the murder & mayhem is funny just because of the outright bizzarre irony involved. I read the entire 0-9 series in 3 days (thanks Covid-19 & Quarantine). Get it for yourself NOW!
Berens spins it and spins it lke casting for a drum or...a shark. You can't guess what comes next for Troy bodean, but you can bet it's full of previous acquaintances and new enemies. But Troy always lands with feet on the ground, like a feral cat. Always on the move, yet the characters fro his past keep turning up. Love his writing style. Five stars.
What a great series of unbelievable adventures. How can one man get himself into so much trouble without even trying. No matter where Troy travels to, there seems to be a murder or two just waiting for him to bumble into. Full of action, suspense and an abundance of hilarity, you would have to be really hard to please if you do not enjoy this series.
Fun series of adventures with Troy, who is pursued by all manner of trouble not of his own making. Lots of twists and turns, and unexpected surprises. A good, fun read.
Had this set of books come up as a suggestion on my kindle. Read a few reviews and on that basis spent 83p on a download of a box set. Have now read them all, I am so missing Mr troy Clint bodean, and all his antics, hope this author writes fast!
After the first 3 or 4 books, they all ran together. Different facts but some story . This is not to say that they were not fun to read but 8 books in row? Too much.
I enjoyed this series of books as the main character was likeable and throughout although getting into risky situations he always behaved well with most other people
Thoroughly enjoyed this series. A great read that has seen me reading into the night. Jolly and dark characters that pop up all through the books. Would make a fabulous tv series.
