Kassie prided herself on being a control freak—not the my-way-or-the-highway kind of bitch, rather the do-the-right-things-right stickler for details. (c)

Kassie(KO) is a control freak whose life is out of control. She can't stay motivated enough to file for a divorce and it has been going on for at least 4 years.
She's got a whole lot of things to solve and as soon as she manages to start doing just that, all crumbles apart.

What's Not Said
By: Valerie Taylor

Valerie Taylor's debut novel, What's Not Said, is a story fit for debate. I can envision this book being a popular choice for book clubs.

Kassie has decided to leave her emotionally abusive husband, Mike. Her decision is based on years of being Mike's personal slave, waiting on him hand and foot. When they married, he was a profes

Large number of readers enjoy the books that talk about two young people who fall in love, going through ups and downs during their realization time, and end up cherishing their love forever and live happily ever after.Old-time and modern fairy tales. But is happily ever after always possible? If you want to read a book that talks about the problems that may arise after the marriage vows are said, for a slightly different story, then you should definitely read ‘What's Not Said’ by Valerie Taylor ...more

An excellent debut novel! Kassie O’Callaghan is a marketing executive who works in a larger firm. Her husband, Mike, is also in marketing at his own smaller company. They met in college, him a professor and she was his student and they’ve been married over twenty years. Marriage was difficult once the honeymoon period was over and Kassie came to terms with Mike’s controlling and emotionally abusive ways. She’s been conditioned to cater to Mike’s every whim and to his every need. He constantly ma ...more

What's Not Said by Valerie Taylor was honest, raw, and powerful. I truly believe Valerie did an amazing job in portraying the hardships of marriage, infidelity, pregnancy, and family.

Kassie is reminiscent of so many women out there who put the needs of their significant other before themselves and end up feeling unhappy and stifled. Being conditioned by a selfish man to cater to his every need, she craves the freedom to love and be loved.

What's Not Said will force you to face harsh realities a

I wish to thank Net Galley and the publishers, She Writes Press and Independent Book Publishers Association for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow, what a story this one is! Kassie is a very successful, middle aged woman, struggling to correct a marriage that has been over for many years. She and her husband Mike are strangers living in a house together. She takes a solo trip to Italy

What a rollercoaster ride this book is! Through the perspective of the three main characters, we learn of Kassie's long-standing affair with Chris, a man she met five years ago whilst on holiday, alone, in Venice. Why was she alone? Well, her husband, Mike, didn't want to go. As it turns out, that short weekend was the catalyst for all the drama that followed!

Kassie is not the most likeable character at first; she comes across as weak-willed and kind of annoying but as the story progresses and w

What did I just read?!? In her debut novel @valerieetaylor introduces us to Kassie and Mike Ricci with their marriage barely hanging on by a thread! Kassie has decided to leave her professor husband for a younger man, Chris Gaines. On the day that Kassie plans to tell her husband she’s filing for divorce she finds him passed out on the bathroom floor in the middle of the night in need of medical attention. Wha

To say that I am impressed by Valerie Taylor's debut novel is an understatement! Her characters and plot of the story are both fabulous! I love Kassie, the heroine, as well as her best friend, Annie, who is a very important catalyst in the way she prods Kassie into processing the information she receives as a total surprise! I didn't care much for her deceiving husband, Mike, and can't blame Kasse for wanting to escape her situation to find true happiness. Let me say that the outcome from the pa ...more

Secrets, lies and more secrets and lies!

All Cassie O'Callaghan wants to do is leave her abusive husband, Mike and be with her lover, Chris whom she met five years ago on vacation. But her plans are crushed when she learns Mike has been suffering for years from kidney disease. They've been living like roommates in the same house and she has always taken care of Mike and put his needs ahead of hers. This isn't going to change. In fact, he gets more demanding. But I think you'll be surprised how th

What's Not Said Offers a Look at Marriage, Life, Trust, and Infidelity. The author creates a different kind of novel as she shares Kassie's story from Kassie's perspectives, Kassie's husband, and Kassie's lover throughout the book. The storyline takes a 5-year affair--and follows the characters, their motivations, and feelings as the story moves along through challenges and surprises. The author takes a different approach from the same-old affair stories by having the wife take a younger boyfrie ...more

I liked this book. There are a few twists along the way. One that I really did not see coming; well not in the beginning. I figured it out as the story progressed. There were good things about this book that would make me want to read the next one by this author.

While, I felt for Kassie and Mike and what they both were experiencing; this is where the struggle for me came into play with this book. In my opinion this story is meant to be character driven. Which means I need to establish a good, em

So many twist and turns

My very first book from the author Ms. Valerie Taylor and I become a fan. The story has so many twists and turns. It is a laugh out loud read and emotional.

Deceit will always put you into danger sometime in your lives. This is a beautiful story which I am sure that some married couple undergoes through. Secrets that will haunt you further along the way.

I cannot put this book down. The story is so intriguing. It keeps me up at night and even at work, I take the book with

Kassie is a marketing executive. She's in her fifties, childless and ready to begin a new stage of her life. She'd been married to Mike for three decades and after being having an affair for the last five, she's ready to ask for a divorce. But just hours before her husband would be served, something happens and her world is turned upside down and she finds herself in front of a dilemma.
I was eager to read this book since I read the premise. The plot is good and even if I found some of Kassie's

Kassie, a successful marketing executive, married Michael, her college professor, a man ten years her senior. After years of marriage, he continued to treat her as if she were his student. Kassie was decisive about business matters but conflicted about divorcing Mike. “She spent much of the first half of their marriage trying to save it, and the second half trying to escape it.”

Her mother saw no reason for Kassie to divorce Michael. “He’s not an alcoholic. Doesn’t beat you. Doesn’t fool around

In What’s Not Said, debut novelist Valerie Taylor gives us a great read. It is a saucy tale of a woman who has found a younger lover and wants to divorce her lying husband. The story flows well and the characters are multifaceted. Yet it’s so much more than that. It’s about secrets and lies and their impact on our relationships and our lives. In addition, the book raises moral and ethical dilemmas about adoption and organ transplants. It accurately portrays Chronic Kidney Disease and its consequ ...more

Kassie is going to divorce her husband Mike but nothing is straight forward. The book tells of lies being told & how everthing unfolds. The writing was so good, that I disliked Mike & wanted Kassie to be happy. I was suprised to read that this was a debut novel by this author, she writes as though she's been churning out novels for years. Looking forward to the next book, as I really enjoyed this story. ...more

This was quite a ride. I enjoyed the book but I found the characters were a little hard to like, especially Mike. He was horrible to Kassie. I mean I know Kassie was going through some things but she could have let her hair down once in a while. I don't feel like Chris was the right one either for Kassie.

What’s Not Said is the debut novel of Valerie Taylor. It’s a very realistic take on love, marriage, and everything in between.

First, meet Kassie, a marketing executive, who has a lot going on in her life, a lot of stress. Then we meet Mike, the husband. Finally, there’s Chris, the lover.

Kassie and Mike met in college, the whole student-teacher affair happening, that eventually turned into something more. They get married and have been for a few decades. Like most marriages, the honey

I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. This was an excellent story, one that flowed right along, but I think the, what's not said is why I didn't see what was going to happen. This has a lot of surprises and the ending was so well written.
Valerie Taylor takes us to Boston and Venice and it was amazing how the people in the story all fit together. Secrets, yes there were lots of secrets. and there was lots of planning, and sometimes the most thought out plans don't come anywhere
