This book is outstanding in every way! The subjects of the photos tell their own stories, or as much as they want to tell, in their own powerful, illuminating words. Their faces and body language convey even more.

Wow, wow, wow. This book is such an effective portraits of trans people. It lets them tell their stories in their own words--the author never speaks for them--and the photos are powerful. I found the stories to be moving, and revealing. People are bold for sharing them and I have enormous respect for the author for helping them make their stories heard and destroy stereotypes. A book like this is long overdue and here it's done incredibly well. Bravo. ...more

The photographs are okay/good, but I'm not sure the photographer is as talented as the ones who have done similar collections, such as To Survive on This Shore (Dugan) or American Boys (Zaman).

The trans masculine representation could definitely have been better (so few)...and not mostly crammed at the back of the book. This is short-sighted as more men are transitioning now than in the past and we have so few representations in the media compared to women. Just disappointing.
