Omega Rising: Origins of Agent Rusty Bones Book One

Rate this book
“It’s going to be a wild one tonight.” I uttered those prophetic words on Halloween. The same night I died in the line of duty. In life, I didn’t believe in magick, monsters, religion, or souls. Funny how waking up dead with my consciousness trapped in an amulet provided such clarity. My name is Agent Rusty Bones, and this is my account of the rather dubious life-choices that landed me in the clutches of the ultra-secretive Omega Project. To solve my own death, I must now escape those holding my very essence in an iron-clad grip. But the clock is ticking. Can I bring my killer to justice before anyone else suffers my same fate? Fans of dark humor and action-packed urban fantasy will love the undead adventures found in Omega Origins of Agent Rusty Bones Book One, by Douglas S. Pierce!

I finished Omega Rising. First thoughts... If Robocop & Terminator had a child it would be Rusty Bonus. Omega Rising is reminiscent of a modern version of Frankenstein. The author has a unique understanding of a person's soul. This sci-fi urban fantasy intertwines Christianity, voodoo, and magic into a thrilling page turner. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

This book is visually stunning. The formatting is off the hook!

Holly Carp! One Rollercoaster of a ride.

This is an awesome read, couldn't put it down. I cannot wait to the next one comes out. Awesome take on the Haitian voodoo zombie and American Indian folklore. Loved the storyline as well

I can't help but like Rusty Bones. He's been dealt a rough deal. A family man who signs a contract, thinking it will give his family a more comfortable lifestyle, gradually finds he is sucked into the sinister Omega Project. As a result, he loses everything, including his soul.

When he wakes up after dying in the line of duty, he has a mystery to solve and a score to settle. To prevent his fate happening to others, he has to turn detective.

What a great premise, mixing zombies with military adventure and pagan and Native American mysticism. Although there were massive chunks of prose in italic, which I always find difficult to read in quantity, this is a hugely enjoyable adventure story, and Rusty is an everyman zombie, robbed of his body but still capable of sentient thought, and an awareness of what he has lost.

This is part living dead, part corporate intrigue, part adventure, with a generous dollop of the mystical as well. Rusty has several scores to settle, including the death of his best friend, and the rescue of the man who helps him find meaning in his new life, John Red Bear. To do this, he must enlist the help of Ravyn Fyre and other characters which really enrich a story which could be unrelentingly bleak.

Yes, it took me a while to get into the book, and it could probably have done with a nip and tuck here and there to tidy up the storytelling, but this is an inventive premise, one as much about friendship as about an evil corporation using the corpses of dead police officers to create a force of "super-soldiers." Rusty is a zombie with a difference, a monster with a heart, whose appearance belies an honourable mind.

This book takes the traditional zombie genre and shoves a grenade up its ass, and for that alone, I'd love it, but it happens to be a damned good tale too, with good military elements and a sense of justice for the down at heel, the used and abused, good versus evil. You name it, it's in there, and although it's chaotic at times, it's a hella lot of fun and Rusty is an anti-hero worth rooting for. He returns in Omega Falling, but this story works as a standalone as well.

An engaging urban fantasy with a magick meets Robocop premise.

A policeman is killed in the line of duty and then undergoes an experiment that transforms him from Officer Smith to Agent Rusty Bones. Although expected to be an obedient zombie, he wants to be free from the project that created him.

I enjoyed how the story is told through Rusty’s voice-- the author did a great job establishing a unique, sympathetic character.

On a cruise of Pumpkinfest in South Lyon, I spotted Mr. Pierce’s booth. I just had to pickup a copy after hearing the short synopsis. Plus, I instantly fell in love with the fact the protagonist isn’t some super model, but rather a normal man just doing what he thinks is best for his family and his city, only to become a scarred “monster”.

A police officer joins the Omega program with the promise of extra income for himself, as well as for his department and his family. This special program, with ties to the FBI, isn’t exactly as it was originally sold to the participants when they signed up. If still enrolled upon their death, they become the property of the Omega program…body and soul.
As time passes, his life changes. He becomes so focused on the program, that his relationship with his family suffers, and he even starts getting called out by his superiors at work.
Not long after his wife finalizes their divorce, he’s murdered during his shift as a police officer.
Rusty Bones (I love that name) is brought back to “life” as a reanimated corpse slash robot. Part flesh, part science, with some magic mixed in for good measure. He continues to work full time for the Omega program, taking down terrorists and rescuing innocents from hostage situations. But, something about the program isn’t adding up, despite the apparent good the media is spewing, and Rusty isn’t going to stop until he uncovers the truth.

There’s a decent amount of characters, but not too overwhelming. The important ones are given their proper times for development. I adored the flashback scenes with his kids. Rusty/Jason’s need to provide for his family and put his own happiness to the side for everyone else makes him seem like a great person on the surface…but that proves to not always be the best method. He’s not perfect, he’s human, even when he’s not 100% human anymore.

My review of "Omega Rising" by Douglas Pierce

Can I tell you from start I couldn't believe the energy that I was picking up from the main character Jason. He was very it seemed rough around the edges. An officer with an attitude. Those type of characters always make me wonder wth are you about to get into.

As each scene pressed on, OMG 😳 I was glued. Robbery, death, conspiracy and complete mayhem. Can you imagine listening to your funeral as lay in darkness, completely still not able to move? Do you believe in magic and reincarnation.

Well, if you can't you've got to keep reading to become an investigator yourself. Because each character Director Kampmann, the Dr and John Red Bear makes you indulge even more.

The absolute gull of this author to keep me up until I couldn't read anymore. But I guess that's what books are made for.

I give this book a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ you absolutely will love it. Please support by going to purchase this book. Enjoy the gift of ink and imagination of Douglas S. Pierce Books .

Color me surprised when I read this book by Mr. Pierce. I had only read The Maiden's Song by this author. I read a few other reviews and the comparison between Robocop meets Terminator only to find that they were right. Rusy was brought into the Omega Project and tasked with solving his murder. His mix of sarcastic dark humor mixed with a hint of vulnerability endeared him to me. Pierce delivered an action-packed dark fantasy that constantly kept me on my toes. I loved the voodoo element. The story moved with ease and was well developed with a strong and entertaining hero leading the charge. As one of my 2020 Halloween reads, thankfully it entertained more than frightened.

You know, this stuff just keeps getting weirder and weirder. -Rusty Bones

No truer words have ever been spoken!! This book reminds me of Frankenstein meets RoboCop and that's my summary of it in a nutshell without giving away any spoilers.

The characters were phenomenal!! Getting to meet and connect with the main character, Rusty, on a personal level was incredible. With his witty and sarcastic remarks to his bad ass skills, he made this book so very addicting and hard to put down. And I will add that Rusty does also have a caring and heartfelt side as well, which made me love him even more. There was a real connection with me and Rusty and I also loved meeting all his friends and enemies that he made throughout his journey.

The story-line was out of this world amazing!! Pierce has a wickedly weird imagination and really knows how to reel you in and keep you guessing, entertained and sitting on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. I was craving this book so bad that my NEED to read it was a must!! The way the author wrote this story was...dare I say....GENIUS!!! The author took this story to a whole new level of intrigue and interest for sure. This book has made it to my top five favorite reads for 2020!! I must say that I have never read anything like this book before in the ten years that I have been reading and reviewing books and I can't wait to join Rusty on some more of his adventures!! I highly recommend this read!!
