Broken Branches is the first in the supernatural contemporary fictional romance series, Silver Lining. It is set in Kensington based in London, England. It follows Kris through his beautiful and privileged life as everything is ripped from him bit by bit. When he realises that he is left with nothing real in his life, his days become dull and monotone bringing about in him a state of mental autopilot. Deep down he ends up blaming himself for the tragedies that have occurred over the past few years, which doesn’t help his state of mind. A beautiful supernatural miracle helps him to uncover the honesty of not just his actions, but of those around him. When he begins to open up and apply intentions and actions to parts of his life that he used to question, aspects of his world begin to light up and unravel. Magical forces show him the truth about what life is and where happiness truly lays; it reminds him to be thankful for just simply being in the world. Broken Branches presents grandeur, realism, profound relationships, genuine love, simplicity and opulence. This is sprinkled with airy supernatural quirks that also bring about a humour in the form of classic British sarcasm and vivid colour.
As well as a creative writer and author, I’m also an emotional wellness advocate.
At a tender age, I used to write little letters, thank you notes, descriptions and so many short stories. By the time I came to the age of seventeen I wrote a script that has now turned into a two-book series.
Silver Lining series follows Kris Dauni journeying his privileged life. A supernatural miracle shows him the truth about life and how he should be more thankful. The series presents grandeur, realism, profound relationships, genuine love, simplicity and opulence. When Vaneeta Kaur contacted me to review her debut novel I was really excited. A supernatural YA Romance is right up my alley! And the cover..wow just gorgeous!! It was different that what I was picturing it from the blurb and I wasn’t sure if I really would like it. But I was pleasantly surprised. This was really an interesting story.
Kris has quite a wonderful life but doesn’t take the time to enjoy it. He is so focused on business and making a success out of Duani’s, his fathers business, that started out as a Department Store but is expanding rapidly. He really has no friends or any love life, but through his mothers guidance he has married an old family friend that he has been smitten with since he was younger. Kelci has brought some light into Kris’ life even though they don’t always see eye to eye they truly love each other. Things change though as tragedies strike Kris and it starts to effect his marriage to Kelci. He starts to close off again even more so then before and he’s determined to only focus on his businesses and he strongly neglects his wife. She becomes a very lonely woman wanting some attention from her husband. After years of Kris’ business only and no time for fun lifestyle something happens to him that seems to be of the supernatural variety. The ethereal visitor helps dig Kris out of the deep hole he has buried himself in and show him life is still worth living.
Poor Kris’ story was filled with a lot of heartache and pain you really feel for him even if you want to kick him at times for being so stubborn! Vaneeta brought about some really intense feelings with his tragedies and I was absolutely heartbroken for him. Especially the twist that brings about his supernatural encounter. I also really enjoyed the relationship between Kris and Kelci during the good times of their marriage. Their playfulness had me cracking up while reading.
I feel like Broken Branches was really more of an adult book but it does read a bit like a YA which I am partial to myself. There were couple of aspects that were a bit confusing to me. The story was told in different time spans that would go back and forth which was fine but then it started going back even further in the past and was multiple years and it started getting a bit jumbled and not flowing well. And then there was Jack. I understood his anger, although very misplaced at his brother, Kris’ father, but not at Kris himself and what exactly he what down with Kris’ mom. It was told in so many pieces I didn’t completely understand it.
Overall this was a really interesting story about a man who is saved from becoming a workaholic hermit through love and compassion with a side of celestial being that had me hooked me from the beginning. Get prepared to go through wildly swinging emotions that range from bursting out in tears (so have your tissue ready) to laughing out loud hysterically. And best of all there will be a sequel!
I love YA's especially when there's a romance or supernatural element to it and in this case, it was both in Broken Branches and I really enjoyed it. It's always refreshing to read a YA novel after reading so many thrillers. I was glad to take a break and give this one a shot.
The author included a lot of subliminal messages that I think is safe to say, this book wouldn't be for just YA readers. It fits a larger audience in my opinion and thinks Vaneeta's writing is more mature than her age. She is a very talented writer and I'm really glad she reached out to me in regards to read and review her book.
Broken Branches covers topics that are not always talked about easily, but done in a way that was tasteful enough to absorb while reading. The characters are overall developed enough for you to relate to and or picture someone you know who is going through the same things.
Being alive is something I am grateful for every single day and Broken Branches really makes you reflect back on that.
The book opens in 2007 and then travels back to 1996. The story then continues to move throughout different points in Kris Dauni's adult life.
Each date labelled in the book comes with a description of a moment or moments from that day, which then connects to other elements in Kris' life. These fragments work to connect the underlying theme of how the past impacts the present. They also show the complicated nuances in family relationships. I felt at times that certain parts of the story were slightly rushed. Also, this book does not follow a traditional romance story, as Kris and Kelci's relationship is not at all healthy or romantic, IMO.
What does work is the interesting navigation of time and family. It's a sad story, but it keeps the reader focused and moved.

This story is told non-linear, you follow Kris in three different timelines which was really intriguing and I loved seeing how everything fit together. It can be a bit confusing at times but once you see how the different timelines are connected and why they're important, it gets really interesting. You see Kris at different stages in his life and development - first when he's still a young man shaped and pressured by his family where you really feel for him. Then there's him in the present, realising how unhappy he truly is. I'm not going to tell you more about this or the third timeline because it was so interesting to read and figure out what was going on there.
At its core, this is a story about how a young man lives his privileged life, experiencing grief, guilt, unhappiness and love along the way. These are such emotional themes that I loved seeing explored! The supernatural element in this was fun to discover as well and while it really got me thinking, it also made me smile a couple of times. I am an extremely character-driven reader so I loved that the focus was on the characters and their development. However, I feel like the character's personalities and development could have been explored a little more. This is a rather short book and I just would have preferred it a little longer, with more time spent with the characters. I felt for Kris but still couldn't entirely connect to him because of that. So if we had spent more time learning about him, his relationships and personality, I would have been even more invested in the book. I really enjoyed the ending though, it was beautiful, wrapped things up nicely and still left me interested in how this series will progress!
This book has a great concept, it explores important themes but still kind of left me wanting because of its shortness. I think if you enjoyed books like Me Before You, you could enjoy this one as well!
My actual rating is probably closer to a 3.5
Content warnings: depression, anxiety, abuse, bullying and death

Disclaimer: I received a feee eARC of this book in exchange for a review.
Overall, I really enjoyed this read! It reads like a YA novel, but I think it’s one that people from all age groups would enjoy. I particularly enjoyed the supernatural elements to the story. The romance was wonderful, too. Sign me up for more of that! There are some tragic elements to the book, but I was very satisfied by the way it ended.
The characters were engaging, and I loved the development of the MC over the course of the book as well.
The few drawbacks for me were that the timelines got a bit confusing with all the flashbacks, and at times I could’ve used a bit more action to keep the pace of the book going. But overall I really enjoyed it!

My review contains spoilers
Broken Branches is quite unlike any other book I have read that deals with emotional happiness and related wellbeing topics. The story is presented non-linear, but with clear dates before each section made it simple to follow and keep track of. It is evident from the writing that the author was passionate about the topics presented, and the story maintained it's brisk writing and unique voice. The two things that I took from Broken Branches are that communication is key for happiness in your personal life and extended family, without it, there can be years of hurt, suffering, and isolation due to ignorance or misperceptions. Secondly, it is possible to break the traditions or patterns of the family tree, and find emotional and mental peace and happiness for oneself. This book seemed suited for an older audience than YA, as it mostly took place after Kris' late teens and was a look into the adult lives of him, extended family, and employee Lauren. Additionally, there were alcohol addition issues and possible references to sexual harassment.
Note: I got a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review so my opinion is 100% real and not affected by that.
This book was a real challenge for me. Not because I didn’t enjoy it but because it contains a few sensitive topics that I am pretty familiar with. I enjoyed the whole plot, the characters were lovely and I loved the whole idea of going back and forth between two periods of time. I couldn’t quite connect with the characters so that’s why I didn’t enjoy this book to the fullest. But the storyline is really interesting and I love the author’s writing style. She did an amazing job considering that she is a new author! Highly recommend this book if you want to read a quick-paced read. I think this would be the perfect winter read!

Broken Branches by Vaneeta Kaur is like the first shower of rain that bestows us with a soothing fragrance of soil and with its every single drop, makes the nature alive. Her book, despite being in three different parts, gives us some beautiful and important messages of life which not only soothes us but also gifts us with the meaning of being alive.
Her book has a positive aura which shines like a light not only for the readers but also for Kris, the male protagonist in the form of Kelci, the female protagonist. Two very relatable characters whom we meet in every household once in a while. But Kris and Kelci's characters would be nothing without Hilary, another beautiful woman who holds the ability to win many hearts. There are negative characters like Jack as well, who shows how disastrous jealousy and negative thoughts can be burning not only others but also the very person who is getting engulfed in these.
But, the themes that made me fall in love with Broken Branches are Gratitude and Carpe Diem. Being a strong believer of both, Miss Vaneeta has won my heart by showing that we should be grateful for what we have in our lives instead of mourning for what we don't. She also portrays the beautiful message of not holding onto sadness. Instead, she has shown us to let go, enjoy each and every moment of our lives and embrace love and forgiveness instead of carrying hatred and anger.
And amidst all these serious themes, there's a touch of supernatural as well which takes the novel to a new height. But she uses the supernatural elements only to elevate her themes. Thus, I can say that despite having a common and relatable plot line, the way the story has been narrated and with the supernatural touch, the book is pretty unique. So, my friends, if you really want to have a good read where you end the book with lots of beautiful messages of life and with a smile on your face, Broken Branches by Vaneeta Kaur is the book for you.
Note: Though every single part of the book is beautifully created, I think editing it one more time would have been better as there are some typing mistakes.
Thank You Vaneeta. You really wrote a book that made me smile with a glistening layer in my eyes at the end.

Review: Overall, I liked this book. It was a good story about communication and love. The characters were well developed, the world building was also well done. The book was also well written! I really enjoyed reading this one!
However, I did get a little lost because the book is non-linear. While there are dates and such, it’s a little hard to keep track of.
🌿sometimes the harshest heartaches are thrown at you to see how you cope and to see which road you take after the obstacle. It’s all a test.”🌿
A story of healing and heart ache a perfect weekend read to soak up all the positive vibes to start off your week 💙
Kelci is our female protagonist and she's a lady with a mind and you can actually see how hard it would have been to write such an emotionally strong character. She was my favorite part of the book and made me push through all the emotions that were thrown left and right!
Kris has always wanted his father's approval from DAY 1 and gets it but at what cost? What I loved about Kris's character was that he was an emotional bomb waiting to blast but somehow gets diffused every time by our dearest Kelci, she's the light in his life and their love story is so sweet until it isn't.
🌿Beautiful book which I would rate a 4.8/5 because of the lovely plot line and twists which I didn't not expect and because the book was totally unpredictable in a very good way. 🌿The second is the wonderful writing style it wasn't a kind I was used to but still loved! 🌿Third the soulful characters that build up the book, I was laughing and crying and dying with them, her characters all come from her personal experience as a emotional welfare advocate. 🌿Four because of the gorgeous cover of course! 🌿And finally the .8 is for the actual book because it simply exists I cannot recommend this book enough it's so good and such an emotional read that you'll probably need your trusty blanket and a hot cuppa nestled in a corner with a tissue box nearby!
This is an emotional book and has trigger warnings of depression, anxiety, abuse, bullying and death. As much as I would recommend you to read this book for a beautiful journey of inspiration however I hope that you see if anything triggers you before reading it since I don't want to mislead in case you need it🤞🏻
I was kindly asked to review this book Broken Branches by Vaneeta Kaur and I was happy to help out! I read this in E-book form, and rather enjoyed the story.
I found the characters relatable and enjoyable, and I found the environment to be described well enough that I had no issue picturing myself there within the story.
I found her writing to be well done, full of heart and emotion, enough so that there were moments that it really tugged at my heart strings. I found my emotions really got pulled into this story and in the end, I found myself tearing up. It has truly been awhile since a book has made me tear up, get angry, happy, curious and excited sure, but its not often that a book will make me cry!
Id say the only negative thing about the book itself, has nothing to do with the story itself but the format in which it was written. I found that the transitions going from past and present events, did not flow as well as it could have. I have read many books where it jumps from past to present and all the different moments in between, but the flowed and was easy to follow. Unfortunately in this story there were times I had to go back and reread a page or two just to make sure I was correct in the jump in time, and found myself a little lost for brief moments. That sensation did not last long, but was there non the less.
All in all I found myself enjoying the story and wanting more, I am very curious to see what the second book to this first one brings! And I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars!
Kaur, from her very first sentence, wraps the reader up in a non linear universe full of emotional complexities. Part family saga and part tragic Greek hero with a supernatural twist, the reader follows the ebs and flows of Kris. Early on, it is made evident to the reader that Kirs is one gigantic cautionary tale. He has come from a life of privilege and has failed to grasp the small yet impactful blessings that every day life and love can bring to you. Becoming practically robotic in the process, Kris fails to see the damage he is doing to the ones he loves until it's far too late.
There's nothing I adore more than a tale with empowering female figures. A quiet inner resilience and strength exists within the protagonist's mother, as well as within his wife. The tragedy of the novel lies within the reality that Kelci gradually seems to go through the process of erasure in her efforts to draw her husband Kris back into the land of the living (figuratively speaking).
Vaneeta Kaur grips you with a tale that sends chills up your arms. Each section of the novel contains mystical elements, reminders of the healing powers of love, and exhibits of what happens to the human psyche when we fail to acknowledge the efforts of others to touch our hearts in poignant ways. This is the first in a new series and I will eagerly scoop up the next installment.
Many thanks to Vaneeta Kaur for a copy of this sweeping beauty in exchange for an honest review.
The book emphasizes on life, happiness loss and family and love. It highlights the fact that wealth will not bring happiness but at times can ruin people’s life .
the story is set in London focusing on Kris’s life. And how his advantaged life is slowly detained from him. He loses everyone dear to him and he is not aware of the damages he is causing. The transition Kris went through from drowning himself in his work and alcohol to someone who is willing to change to be better was very motivating, The supernatural aspect of the book was not really my taste but the fact that his wife somehow came back (supernaturally) and could change the way he was thinking and living his life was heartwarming.
I could feel his pain at the end when he faced his his Aunt Louise and Uncle Jack and found out the truth.
At times I found the story difficult to follow because of the non-linear plot. In the same breath it was a fast read and I found the supernatural turn of the story intriguing. The characters were not fully developed though and it difficult for me to connect with them.
The author has penned the details in a creative way and humor made the story more entertaining.
Many Thanks to Vaneeta Kaur for the Advanced Copy.
I was given a free e-book in exchange for an honest review.
When Vaneeta contacted me about reviewing her book, I was quite excited since it deals with the paranormal which I absolutely love.
When I started reading Broken Branches, it really didn’t feel like a paranormal book. If I haven’t read the synopsis of it, I might think that this book is a slice-of-life novel that deals with an unhappy marriage. It started off with Kris and Kelci and their way to married life. Kris is a workaholic man who is so desperate to get the approval of his father on everything he does that he neglected Kelci to deal with things at home making Kelci a very sad and lonely wife. Though I love that this book deals with a few sensitive topics and I do think the plot has a great potential I just cannot seem to connect with the characters at all.
While I also enjoy books that is alternately told in different times or year, I find some of it distracting and confusing that I had to go back to the other chapters to check the year that I just read which ruins the flow. I also find the story before Kelci’s accident to be too long and dragging. If some parts of it where left out, the story would still have turned out the same and wrapped up with a bow.
Even though it was not something that blew me out of the water, I still find this story very interesting and would recommend it to my friends. I think that Vaneeta did a fantastic job with her first book. I wish her good luck on her next novels!
Have you ever read a novel where a coat being draped over a bannister held so much meaning, foreshadowing? Between a meeting of souls, a sleezy uncle and a mystery waiting to be unravelled. We piece together a heart-breaking and transformative mystery through snapshots in time. The puzzle of this beautifully written tale puts workaholic Kris and his abundantly kind wife, Kelci at the epicentre of a journey to spiritual and emotional awakening – not just for the characters, but also for the reader.
A critical, cautionary tale that explores Love, life & death, friendship, grief and relationships. We follow the breakdown of nuclear family values and a questioning of our modern way of life – is it sustainable? what are we taking for granted? What are we sweeping under the carpet?
Something’s got to give … A tower moment will surely occur …
And will we ask for help when it does?
Not simply a romantic novel, Vaneeta Kaur’s Broken Branches send us on an adventure of a lifetime – a journey that transcends the very realms of life and death.
An explosive first novel in the trilogy ‘Silver Linings’ sets the bar high for Kaur.
Broken Branches is a novel that you didn’t realise you needed to read – until you pick it up.
This was not entirely what I expected from the synopsis, but that’s not bad. I didn’t expect it to be that deep!
This book is following different timelines throughout the book, which isn’t uncommon but had me confused at some points. Sometimes it wasn’t so easy to tell the difference, even though there were always dates at the start of each chapter. Adjusting to that gets easier the further in you are. I also had some struggles with the characters at the beginning cause they seemed so rash to me but all of it kind of made sense as the story unfolded. I especially enjoyed seeing the MC Kris develop throughout the book. He was constantly changing until he was finally able to steady himself again. The book features a lot of everyday-life issues and the saddest sides of life overall. There’s many important topics, that I have personally not seen in books too often and find they ought to be shown more cause life isn’t always rosy. The book concludes in a way that just makes sense and in a life lesson that I find important on so many levels. Overall, this book is well written. If you’re looking for a happy-go-lucky kind of book, this isn’t the one. But I’d definitely recommend it for the depths of it all and the way it shows, that even at our worst, there’s always room for change, acceptance and making the next right step!

Some books come into your life and smack you right in the face. This book is one of them.
It effortlessly mixes reality with fantasy, magic, and British humour. It's also evident that the author is passionate about the topics discussed. Despite being non-linear, the dates make it easy to keep track of the events.
At times serious, at times lighthearted with a sprinkle of supernatural, Broken Branches discusses important topics such as communication, love, happiness, and mental peace. It also highlights that unhealthy patterns in the family can be broken and that you are in charge of your life.
This book is an important reminder that nothing in life comes on a silver platter with no consequence and that the only thing that is constant, is change.
It is a character driven novel that deals with topics like love and loss, communication in marriage, and happiness in life. A good chunk deals with Kris’ adult life and the way Kaur approached these topics was easily relatable.
Kris’ story was told through nonlinear timelines. Jumping around anywhere between 1996 and 2007 with each day describing events from that day. The writing style was different from what I have read before and it was a little confusing to keep the dates straight at first but once I got used to it I started to enjoy the story.
I really enjoyed the supernatural aspects of the book and the second half was faster paced. I liked the character development of Kelci, the wife, but I feel like we didn't really get to know Kris until towards the end, and I am happy there is a sequel to get to know him more.
Overall I liked the message that came from this book and enjoyed the read.

Broken Branches is an enjoyable novel about family, love, loss, sadness, marriage, and communication. The writing is beautiful and filled with bits of humor. It is creative and entertaining.
I couldn't give this novel a full five stars for two reasons. It doesn't fit its labeled YA genre based on the age of the characters and the themes explored. It would be much better suited for an adult audience. Also, the novel is written in non-linear form, which made it difficult to get invested in the characters at the beginning.
Overall, I recommend this novel. Also, I have to mention how beautiful the cover of the book is!
*I received this arc in exchange for an honest review*
This book was an interesting read. It’s not a linear plot and that made the story a little hard to follow at points. I ended up taking notes so that I didn’t get lost. Outside of that, it was a fast and easy book and I ended up being really intrigued by the fantasy elements and quirky humor. It does have some triggers (i.e alcohol and sexual harassment) but ultimately helped tell a bigger story about self-awareness and happiness. It’s a fresh perspective on familial communication and personal growth that overall I really enjoyed.
I absolutely loved this book! I love young-adult, especially when it matches both romance and supernatural elements! 🌵 Vaneeta's novel has both, which made this book even more appealing to me! The author has stunning writing and it seems like magic is coming from her fingers 🤍 this book touches issues that not many people can talk about easily, like Kris's example. I really think more people should read this book, it really impacts you and makes you think about life.
A Review on Broken Branches by Ofori Anastasia Broken Branches as the name conotates is a novel intricated with compelling themes which will take you on a journey you will cherish in a lifetime. This novel basically in summary expantiates the life of the main character named Kris whose life wasn't a bed of roses but filled with pain, sorrows and Anguish although he had all the good things in life but in the end, it took a spiritual force which was his dead wife to put him back on track. This shows that having wealth doesn't make you fulfilled. Some of the themes in the novel which stood out for me is the theme of broken relationships. As a child, the main character was used to a relationship where fear was the order of the day.
Another theme is love. His wife kelci tried to put his life on track because she realized Kris was treading on the wrong path. Also theme of spirituality could be seen. It showed that supernatural beings exist and can help reshape your life. It shows we are in a world where it is never good to doubt and it can happen to anyone.
In all, this novel is a reality of what happens in life and that life is not just given out on a silver platter but it is full of challenges. Its up to you to make a decision which can either make or break you.
