The Essential Rene Lalique

The French artist, Rene Lalique (1860-1945) created art--notably glass, jewelry, and architectural decoration--so strikingly bold and original that the word "Lalique" became synonymous with luxury. And while few artists leave a living legacy, Rene Lalique did, in the form of the company that still bears his name and is controlled by his family, which has through the generations refined and added to le style Lalique.

If I learn something new it is an okay book. If I have to complain it would be how the book was written. Many photos but not of the objects written about. Why not show pictures of the pieces you are discussing? Time frames were a bit confusing. Things were repeated. But you cannot argue that Rene Lalique was a brilliant artist.

This is a very informative book! I really wish some of the described objects were included as pictures as well, but I assume there was a copyright issue. However, worded descriptions are quite detailed and make it easy to imagine!

A small book, easy & quick to read. There was quite a bit of information about the Art Deco & Art Nouveau movements, the life of Lalique and the times that he lived in. There are many photos, very nice, though small.
