On the Backs of Waves is a book written by Chiara Kelly, an American editor and writer. Her master’s degree in criminal justice gives her experience and adds realism to the story. It is a fast, absorbing and captivating novel about a nanny whose name is Laurel. She loves and protects two children, Luly and Sack, but when they start having problems at home, she decides to kidnap them. She starts a travel by sea with the children and her boyfriend.

Receiving this book in the mail wednesday was a god send. I love reading water based books anyway but in the summer with no access to adventures this book was needed by my mind and soul. Luly could so be me watching the water and being mesmerized by it and loving the pink sand. Truly a magical thing. The complexity of love in the many relationships in this book were wonderful. We were given what we needed when we needed it information wise and that was great. A heartfelt water adventure that I a ...more

A fast read with the thrill of the sea, abduction, and lots of tension.

I received this book through Goodreads Giveaways - the following is my honest review.
The summary of this book does really that - it summarizes what lies ahead in this book. While it reads fairly well and quickly, it often felt very shallow and surface level to me. I did not feel particularly attached to the characters or the story. The most thrilling storyline was the last half or so of the book. Everything leading up to it

On the Backs of Waves is an interesting premise with lots of tension. The fact that children were victims in the book really upped the tension for me.

The book is well-written with an interesting plot and developed characters. The idea of a trusted caretaker kidnapping your children is one that is nightmare-inducing. This book brings the nightmare to life and makes for a gripping story.

I enjoyed the realistic dialog, the constant tension, and the realistic depiction of the trauma an incident such

This is a story that involves a nanny, sailing and 3 missing people (2 children and an aunt). It's a thriller centered around a nightmare scenario for parents.

Chiara Kelly puts much drama, emotion, and mystery in her novel, On the Backs of Waves. Told by several of the characters, you get the story behind the circumstances that led to the nanny, Laurel, taking possession of Luly and Zack. Her love and care for children is more out of grief because of her own trauma. Mila and Moriah hired Laurel since Moriah went back to work. With their marriage in need of attention, Laurel decides she will care for Zack and Luly, permanently.

Miles and Moriah Reed are living a parent’s worst nightmare: their two children, Luly and Zack, have been kidnapped by nanny and her boyfriend while out on a sailing trip. This trip was supposed to last for 10 days, but when they never come back, Miles and Moriah alert the coast guard and the police and attempt to figure out just what happened. Laurel, the nanny was very close to the family and the children, living in their home and she loved the two kids as her own since she was unable to have ...more

This took me a long time to get into and there are lots of different characters narratives going on at once which was a bit confusing at the beginning. Overall a decent story, but it didnt suck me in quite like I expect from books.
