I've thought about it and I've had to lower my rating. The review will explain why.

The first thing to know is that this book is nothing new. Then again, most books, especially in the YA genre, are all fairly similar in structure. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I kept waiting for this book to surprise me, and it never quite managed that. I could tell from the opening chapter how things were going to generally play out. The inciting incident especially is extremely basic and predictable

Hello everyone, welcome to my Ted Talk. Today, I shall tell you about chemistry. *rolls up sleeves*

Conquering people is easy. You break past their defenses, seize their cities, burn their world to the ground. To annihilate us, though, is impossible. A seed will survive.

Just to be clear, I’m not referring to the scientific discipline—I mean the chemistry between people which, despite popular belief, is not solely sexual. The people you enjoy spending time with, the people you simply get along

This book is fantastic. You should read it immediately. Talin is a wonderfully real YA character, flawed and difficult and sympathetic and fantastic. Marie's writing is at times spare, at times lush, and always beautiful. My fave YA book of 2020.

Hmmm, I'm very undecided with this book. It had a nice ending but I couldn't really get into it.

Also, it was predictable. And I'm not sure if in a good way yet.

Still, Lu's writing is always really good.

Guess what? I couldn't wait a second more and I just had to pick up this one and see how it goes.

Marie Lu is one of my most-read authors, everything she publishes I will read, and it makes me really excited to see what this new one is gonna be about. I mean, it looks like

I have yet to read a Marie Lu book that I don’t like and this was no exception. Many authors publish a hit trilogy or two and fail to deliver the same quality books afterward. Lu isn’t one of them. Although Warcross (I haven’t read the sequel nor will) and Skyhunter aren’t as good as Legend and the Young Elites, they are still engaging and that’s coming from someone who hasn’t been enjoying YA lately.

Skyhunter is the story of Talin a refugee in the nation of Mara after the Karensa Feder

Marie Lu is so good at what she does.
Apart from this, I have only read the Legend trilogy by her- but Skyhunter was definitely a step up. She takes the structure and tropes of YA fantasy, but somehow makes it feel refreshed and new. Something about her writing makes me nostalgic for early 2010's fantasy/dystopian, and it has a compulsively readable quality to it.

Skyhunter is a blend of futuristic sci-fi, post-apocolyptic and fantasy all in one. We follow Talin, a refugee working as a 'striker'

All of the fun of the sword and laser 1950s sci-fi, with none of the internalized racism and misogyny of the 1950s sci-fi. In other words, a win-win.

UPDATE: apparently it's just a chapter sampler... and I'm kinda upset because there wasn't a label or anything. Not a good impression for the publisher.

Marie Lu has never disappointed me with any of her books and Skyhunter actually went above my expectations. I loved every single thing about this book, the world building was phenomenal as were the characters. It is sci-fi fantasy, but also post-apocalyptic and it was just incredible. I don’t know how Lu does it, but her writing is so beautiful and unique. Even though this reads like a dystopian novel, it

This book was amazing! I didn’t know anything going into this book and this might be my favorite book of hers. The world building was amazing and it was a world I didn’t want to leave. The plot was so intriguing and I was hooked from the beginning, it is action packed and adventurous. I also really liked the war scenes and when Talin and her friends went on the enemies side, it was very descriptive and well done. Talin was a great protagonist, she was strong, loyal, and independent. And she is a ...more

“People are going to remember us, Talin,” she says. “I’ll make sure of it.”

My favorite part of this story was the love between this group of friends. Talin, Corian, Adena, and Jeran were everything I want in a friend group. They loved each other fiercely but also challenged and fought with each other. They were more like siblings. Then you add Red (the first Skyhunter) and Aramin (the Firstblade) to the mix and things get juicy. I loved Jaren and Aramin’s (view spo

This was the most recent release from Marie Lu and from someone who consider her an auto-buy author that I think this might be her best book by date.
Yes, Ik the legend trilogy is iconic but this was a fast pace fantasy novel with some ghost and guns and swords and horse riding, and a "hiest" but not really one just breaking into a building. I will totally recommended this one to all of my friends Idk if I love this one more or less than The kingdom of back? Mmm we'll see which book of her will

Thank you to Edelweiss and the publisher for the advance copy!

I don't even know how to start this review. My stomach hurts, and my heart aches, and I feel like the world is spinning without me. I don't want to live a life outside of the one Marie Lu created. I yearn for Red and Talin. This book was everything the cover suggests. My words will not do it justice.

Wow! Non stop action with a gripping storyline. In this dystopian novel, Talin along with her fellow comrades must defend their nation of Mara against the Federation. Mara is the last nation yet to be conquered. Is defending Mara even possible? After all, the Federation is technologically more advanced and has an army of beasts capable of destroying everyone in their path. An electrifying read. Skyhunter is sure to please sci-fi enthusiasts.

Having read a lot of different Marie Lu titles, I must say that Skyhunter very definitely is her style at its best — interesting mix of characters, well-paced plot (with plenty of action) and a complicated (and imperfect and terrifying) world. I really enjoyed diving into this one, and I’m definitely very much looking forward to finding out what happens next.

Note: I listened to the audiobook for this, and the narrator (Natalie Naudus) was great!

Netgalley has pranked me, fooled me, bamboozled me, if you will. I have never been so betrayed or hurt or embarrassed in my entire life.

They did not give me the full book. They gave my peasant ass an EXCERPT.

Can you imagine the horror on my face when I try to turn to the next chapter, eagerly awaiting what is to come, loving the world being built before my eyes, the stunning characters, only to see ... NOTHING. It cuts deep.

I'm still going to give a star rating for this excerpt because I said I
