Practicing Progress: because life is about changing one step at a time

Rate this book
We’ve all been there — stuck in the cycle of perfectionism until
we feel plagued with indecision or paralyzed with the fear of getting it wrong.
No one wants to live like this, but how do you break the cycle and choose a
better alternative?

Lori Jackson has identified six pillars of practice to help you
shift the way you view change and adopt a mindset that will bring more peace,
joy, and acceptance into your life. She shares actionable strategies to help
you learn how to make small but measurable steps toward growth. Instead of
dealing with what you believe the world thinks you should be and do, try
discovering ways to practice progressing on the path meant just for you. More
than an encouraging book about making progress and reaching your goals,
Practicing Progress offers a framework for making intentional choices and
seeing them through.

Oh how I loved this book about getting away from perfectionism and expecting perfect changes and instead practicing progress day by day. It's about extending grace to ourselves while at the same time staying on a course of making intentional choices and changes in our lives. There was so much good advice in this one and I walked away with some actionable items that I want to put into practice in my life.

Some of my favorite quotes:

"How the world sees you is none of your business."

"The most successful and content people take responsibility for their own life. They don't blame or expect someone else to fix their problems or make them happy. They know they have the power to shape and mold their lives to fit their needs. They also recognize they have the strength to let go of things they can't control."

"Each choice I've made to practice being fearless has empowered me to try again."

"Embracing perfection is about loving who we are, flaws, and all. We can practice loving the process of growing as we strive to be better today than we were yesterday. We must focus on love and compassion instead of where we think we might be falling short."
