Hiding his past behind a veneer of sophistication and mystique, billionaire Blake Sinclair is extremely handsome, and by his own admission, an ineligible bachelor who doesn’t do relationships. Romance for him is art and beauty. But sex is sex. And he needs lots of it. He doesn’t connect the two. He’s never witnessed love in its finer form, for his youth was crippled by a d ...more

I’m sorry but I had to DNF as I just couldn’t feel any real connection to the main characters. Even the sex scenes just didn’t have any chemistry. Penelope and Blake were bland and just felt like cardboard characters with no real intensity or depth to their characters. Maybe other people can relate better to them than me.

★ Shame in good company - A steamy and suspenseful read ★

—>>> Penny and Blake definitely have a lot of ghosts and shame in their closets to hide. The only difference is, Penny is still living with hers in the present, while Blake has buried his deeply in the past and miles away. Perhaps too deeply, as it has a way of seeping into his present, especially when his instant obsession with a gifted, intelligent, and beautiful artist has him losing his control, needing her more than he has never neede

This latest offering from J J Sorel is sure to be a hit amongst her many loyal followers and new readers alike. It is an adult novel based in modern-day London but with a dark, gothic feel. The genre is somewhat hard to define, as the story has multiple layers. There are themes running through the book of romance, action, suspense, mystery, and adventure, so it promises to appeal to a wide audience.

The two sizzling lead characters, Penny and Blake, are well developed, being both incredibly intr

This intriguing story draws you in with all the drama surrounding, Blake, James and Penny. Penny wants to help her mother and goes about it through a club where she meets Blake. This story has so many twists and turns that it holds you hostage until the last page because you don't want to miss any thing going on.

I really enjoyed this story. The story contained Penelope's point of view and Blake's point of view which led to the reader being able to understand both main character's intentions and personal feelings. We were able to know where the characters were coming from when they acted certain ways. The story was extremely steamy. I enjoyed the story and was wondering the whole time what was going to happen. I was left feeling sorry for James and wish that there would be a story about him finding a hap ...more

Sorel’s latest is not only packed with scintillating love scenes but it is also hefty on plot and characterization.

The handsome billionaire Blake Sinclair doesn’t do “relationships”, but the beautiful Penelope Green makes her way into his heart with her sheer honesty and feistiness. When the ghosts from Blake’s past resurface and threaten to destroy his present, he must do everything in his power to set things right.

Though it’s sheer lust that makes Blake fall for Penelope, his journey to resp

Dark Descent into Desire by J J Sorel is the story of Blake Sinclair and Penelope 'Penny' Green.
Blake didn't grow up very well and one of the issues was Dylan Fox. But now Blake is an adult who doesn't do love but only does instant gratification with sex and never the two shall meet. But then he meets Penelope who catches his eye. But her art also catches his attention too. When he does get to take her he finds that he can't seem to just walk away. Then something happens that he has to fight aga

"Dark Descent into Desire", by J.J. Sorel, is aptly titled. There is a dark descent into desire here, and the author is the one to take you there.

This isn't your average billionaire romance story, and to call it chick lit would be a gross disservice, although there are some chick lit passages and phrases. One might be tempted to search for similarities that echo "50 Shades of Grey," but "Dark Descent into Desire" is deeper and richer, thanks to Sorel's wording and character-building skills. The

This is a dark billionnaire romance. The characters are intriguing and the storyline is different but entertaining.

Penelope: “I’ve always used art as an escape, as an expression of my inner world while giving me a break from the real world”
Blake: “But isn’t your inner world a mirror of the real world, given that that’s all you’ve ever known?”

Penelope is an art student with an addict for a mother. She is kind, naive, and self-conscious. She is a relatable character to most young women. She’s always late. Blake is a layered character with an endearing boyish appeal. They communicate without saying anything. Th

Penelope and Blake simply can't get enough of each other - their need for each other outweighs anything else and that is dangerous. Blake has a dark past and it is coming back to haunt him. Will his secrets be exposed? And will Penny survive her obsession with Blake? Someone is out to tear them apart and they won't give up easily.

'Dark Descent into Desire' by JJ Sorel is not just an adult novel full of lust and desire, but also a tense thriller that will kept me turning page after page, right up

A place where the girls charged for taking their virginity. James tell a Blake that he needed a blood test before he could have sex with any of the girls and the cost to get into the club was $1,000. Loved this deliciously dark romance, but wish it was a tad darker! I love my dark romances to be really dark, but even though I wouldn’t consider it this to be that dark and disturbing I still found it unputdownable! Lots of steam, suspense, and of course a bit of love! Well written, with characters developed flawlessly! Loved the multiple pov, found it to be a very layered read and more than you might expect from this genre! Overall, I think those who enjoy these types of books will absolutely ...more

What I love – a bit dark, very sexy with off the charts heat, full figured female love interest

What I did not – Penelope, towards the end due to her lack of growth and maturity

This story is told from 2 perspectives – Blake a 30 year old billionaire bachelor, who does not believe in love or marriage, does not want any sort of relationship and likes alternative sexual actives, and Penelope “Penny”, a very poor but super talented voluptuous and curvy 23 year old virgin art student, who does not ha

Basic summary: over-long and completely bland.

The main thing that attracted me to this book was its description as a dark romance on the cover, but... It’s definitely NOT a dark romance. I’ve read edgier YA fantasies than this :/

Penelope (the female MC) is an artist who dreams to leave behind the shitty estate she’s been living in and help her mum with her drug addiction. Her best friend (who also lives in that shitty, poor estate) one day tells her of this quick way to make money so they can l

Penny and Blake were a blast to read. I did enjoy their story from the first moment and it had all good parts in it (at least for me): romance, adventure, a dark past, a sizzling connection.

It is definitely not dark romance, but has some hints to it, but mainly focusses on the relationship between Penny and Blake itself. Both are very different characters representing two sides of one coin. I did like how they built up their connection, their trust, their relationship.

Is it realistic? For sure n

I’m struggling to remember the details of this book a week after reading a I can’t - never a good sign.

This novel would do better to categorize itself as erotica bc the plot existed solely to lead to sex scenes, and they were quite repetitive. He storyline was meh - I appreciated the inclusion of the lead’s life in housing estates and surrounded by gritty drug scene and I wish that had been explored more, but it added some depth and care to her character. The male lead had some promise but it f

The characters lacked chemistry for me, which was a significant issue when trying to read a romance. It was an interesting premise, there is a definite illusion to Jeffrey Epstein in the criminal aspects of the plot, this part of the book I enjoyed. it's set up was well devised, but it got messy when the romance was introduced, and some of the secondary characters were a detraction to the story.

It had potential, but there was more to dislike this book than to recommend,

A big thank you to NetGalley and IN Sorel for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a stand alone book. It is a little dark, and has lots of drama. I didn't love this but I didn't hate it. It talks about some sensitive issues. I couldn't connect totally with the main characters. I really disliked Blake's friend James. He was a creep. I did enjoy Sheldon! Always great to have such a good friend. 3.5 stars ...more

I have read now

Two books by this author. I enjoyed the read but there is a common thread where her heroines seemed to have an issue with weight. Constantly referring to themselves as chubby over weight or fat. I like my heroine just as confident as the male hero’s. It should be enough that the alpha find them sexy and beautiful. Don’t see the need for their size to come into play. Doesn’t add anything to the story but distracts from it.

I made it to 15% and was bored silly. I felt no connection to anything or anyone in the story. There was nothing to sink your teeth into, and nothing I was intrigued about. It would’ve been better if the main character was on the fence about joining the auction. If she was giving it some thought, it would’ve been more interesting.

Penelope is an artist; Blake is a billionaire who always gets what he wants. The chemistry is intense and steamy. The story is fast-paced with loads of twists and turns. The characters have lots of depth and they really draw you into the story. I liked it.
