This is the 3rd installment, but the first one I've read. Didn't feel lost, as the author did mention a few flashbacks along the way to help understand tensions. The story is centered around Mercy, a veteran who has a military trained dog named Elvis. She has an on and off relationship with game warden Troy, who has his own service dog Susie Bear (she is huge!). This is such a good series! We find Mercy and her dog Elvis once again chasing a mystery. It was full of action and suspense. It was kinda sad there towards the end when you think things might be changing. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to the next one in the series

I hate it when a book makes me cry, but the ending is a happy one. Mercy and Elvis are once again involved in a case. This time it’s a cold case her grandfather never solved. Escaped murderer, past missing cases never solved, murder in the woods, kidnappings. There is never a dull moment in the third book in the series.

Great setting (Vermont) and great characters (people and dogs) made this a perfect read for me. Though the third in a series, it flowed just fine for a reader such as myself who has not read the first two of the series. I enjoyed it so much that I sought out the first of the series and I'm reading it now.
