After that ending of The Beautiful, there was no way I was going to skip this one.

I love love loved Celine in this one. She’s experienced even more and stands stronger than ever. I loved her tenacity and refusal to be placated. Bastian is even more intriguing this time around. I was captivated reading him figure out how he moves forward. And again, I could have done with 5000% more Odette.

Plot wise, it was a bit info-dumpy in the beginning, but I relished finally knowing the backstory of everyth

The Damned is the second book of the Beautiful saga by Renée Ahdieh. This is little-known news, unknown even to me until I finished reading, because the other two books have not yet been announced, but only spoiled in some articles. Anyway already from the first chapters, it is possible to understand that the story is far from its conclusion.

The Beautiful proved to be the tip of the iceberg of

The first third was 5 stars, the middle was more like 3, the first 80% of the last third was 5 stars again, and then that last 20% is more like 3 stars, though that's also me being petty and could change depending on the next book.

Other than that, I don't know how to review this. This book was saying Gretal Rights, and then it said lmao no.

❝Alas, I know how well God listens to the prayers of the damned.❞

The Damned is the infinitely quotable, addictive sequel to The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh — one of the key books in kickstarting the vampire resurgence within YA. In truth, The Beautiful was underwhelming for me and I only gave it two stars, but vampire books happen to be my guilty pleasure and I didn’t want to give up on this series at the first book. I’m extremely glad I read the sequel as the stakes have increased in

Romantic and divine, Renée Ahdieh plunges readers back into New Orleans, promising more passion, mystery, and vampires.

"Who am I? He wonders. Dark amusement winds through him. He is nothing. No one. Nobody."

The Damned starts where The Beautiful ends, with Bastien taking center stage. Bastien's character is enriched with development, show casing his angst, passion and family orientation. His emotional range expands as he struggles to come to te

The Beautiful set the tone and magic of New Orleans, it focused a lot on the scenes where The Damned does not. It does that thing so many other sequels do - it doesn't waste time on describing things that have been described before with the same amount of detail. Which it is right to do, however when faced with completely new places and scenes, I do expect those descriptions. And I'm sad to say I was a little disappointed with them. There are creatures mentioned with no thought of explanation to ...more

ARC provided by Edelweiss:

This story just sucks you in more and more. Renee definitely knows how to keep you wanting more.

We leave off with Celine having no memories of the night that Bastien almost died. She gave her memories of him in exchange for Nicodemius to turn Bastien. He struggles with his new immortality and starts to rebel against his uncle and friends. Celine starts to have nightmares of that night and can’t seem to stay away from Bastien though she doesn’t know why.

This is the sequel to the bestselling The Beautiful. When the previous book ended Celine had promised her memories so that Sebastien might live.
This book builds on the world that Renee Ahdieh created in the first book. We learn more about the Saint Germain family, both human and vampire. We also learn more about the uneasy truce between the Fallen and the Brotherhood. Ahdieh continues the world building by adding fey creatures and their world into the mix.
The world building is amazing and her c

Wow. Wow.

The Beautiful was one of my favourite reads last year. It had captivating characters, breathtaking descriptions of New Orleans, a highly intriguing plot, and vampires.
Renee Ahdieh made vampires cool again in 2019 in the most sophisticated and seductive way. I applaud her for that.

So obviously, I had quite high expectations for its sequel, The Damned.

The Damned is definitely more of Sébastien’s book. It makes perfect sense when you remember how the last book ended. In this b

After reading the beautiful I absolutely can not wait to read the damned...I can not stop telling everyone about the beautiful! I look forward to the day the damned is in my hands! (Will review after release)
I'll try not to include any spoilers about The Beautiful in case anyone hasn't read it yet (but please read The Beautiful, its an incredible vampire fantasy). I am so glad we're learning more about the vampires in this story. In The Beautiful, from what I can remember it's heavily implied that some of the characters are vampires but the v word is out in full force in The Damned! We learn more about their backstories and some of the points of view (POV) are from some of these characters which I r ...more
