There is no doubt, Jennifer G. Edelson can write. BETWEEN WILD AND RUIN has some brilliant descriptions of New Mexico and the mysterious Pueblo ruins found by a teen girl who has just moved to the small town of La Luna. There is an atmosphere of the unknown that feels alive.

That said, the teen angst, the insta-romances or possible romances between seventeen-year-old Ruby a Sheriff’s deputy, a badly scarred teen and a breathtakingly handsome young man was a bit much for me. Ruby was almost too u

I think I'm the only one who didn't care for this book. In 3/4 of the book there's a HUGE amount of teenage angst and a young girl who says one thing and then does another. I forgive you and then a second later she's slamming the door in indignation. Everyone warns her to stay away from these ruins, so of course that's where she wants to take her daily naps. And 3 guys falling for her as soon as she moves to town? Give me a break. I didn't care for the ending either. I guess I'm too old for this ...more

New Mexico comes alive on the pages of Between Wild & Ruin by Jennifer G. Edelson. This coming of age, paranormal romance is well crafted with a fast pace, architectural description and well developed characters. We meet Ruby, who has moved to the small town of La Luna following the untimely death of her mother. The circumstances of her arrival are revealed one little detail at a time, in the most appropriate way. Edelson is sure to allow the reader to peel back the layers of each character slow ...more

Unfortunately this wasn’t one for me, I wasn’t keen on the insta-love, especially the fact a few young men suddenly are attracted the moment Ruby arrives in town. I enjoyed the descriptions of New Mexico and although I’ve never been it felt really clear in my head with the authors descriptions. Ruby herself although a teenager seems really immature and just not very likeable to me. So unfortunately this just wasn’t my cup of tea.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own

Between Wild and Ruin, by Jennifer G. Edelson is a stellar paranormal coming-of-age romance. Ruby is about to begin her senior year of high school. She’s just recently moved to a small town in New Mexico from Los Angeles , along with her Aunt Liddy. Fleeing the ever present pain following her mothers tragic death Ruby’s and her aunt need to

5 stars for sure!!! This book took me through so many emotions and although I've never been to New Mexico, there was a sense of familiarity that increased with each page. I connected immediately to Ruby. Her disposition upon entering a new town, her way of using sketches for self expression, and her CURIOSITY above all took me back to teenage ME. Love presenting itself in strange forms in the most inopportune times. Never knowing which one to pick, and the options always being SO different that ...more

Good quality book. Pleasant to hold in hands. Nice cover and engaging content. I finished the book in a couple of days.
It’s the story of Ruby Brooks, who moves with her aunt to New Mexico after her mother’s death. She is nearly 18 and, being the new girl in town (who also happens to be beautiful and witty), soon becomes the center of attention. Her new girlfriends at school are friendly and helpful Racine, wannabe actress Ashley and bitter Marta. Ruby has many suitors, but who will she choose? T

Intriguing and suspenseful, Between Wild & Ruin kept me guessing until the end. I really enjoyed the pace of the story, steady with some intense moments and lovely twist. The writing was stellar, the descriptives allowing me to create a complete picture in my mind, the characters are genuine and flawed, definitely three dimensional and not wooden or fake. Ruby is stubborn yet loyal and kind hearted leading lady which is really refreshing. I have to agree with the other reviews I've seen, this st ...more

This supernatural romance had a unique, super imaginative premise and a great setting. I was completely taken with the Beauty and the Beast-style romance between two of the characters, which kept me turning the pages. It featured some standard YA supernatural romance cliches, and I wasn't a fan of some of the character behaviors, but none of that kept me from enjoying and absolutely inhaling this book. I'm definitely looking forward to more from this author.

Intriguing and interesting! I am always fascinated with the varying folklore, mythology, and superstitions of various cultures. In this particular book, the story dives into Native American folklore and superstitions of New Mexico. And, just with its synopsis on the subject matter, I was pulled in. Of course, all that was woven into a young adult coming-of-age story. Yes, Between Wild and Ruin contained the above aforementioned elements with twists that

This is a well written story that is a little different. At first, I thought it would be reminiscent of the “Outlander” novels, but it really isn’t. The storyline is set in today’s New Mexico which is the perfect setting for things otherworldly. Our characters are completely understandable and sympathetic. Thus, my 5-star review. I couldn’t put it down once I got started.

Such a fun read! I would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to escape into the mountains of rural New Mexico. Edelson weaves in some of the interesting history and folklore of this enchanted place that comes alive and adds to the mystery of the story. I loved the main character, Ruby, who is a strong-willed young woman with the normal coming of age conflicts but who has such a strong sense of self and who is determined not to let appearances or other people’s opinions direct her decisions ...more

I received a copy of BETWEEN WILD & RUIN for an honest review. What follows is my opinion and mine alone. There was no compensation made for this review.

Talk about nostalgia! For some reason, this book brought TWILIGHT back to mind. I'm not entirely sure aside from the genre, but the feeling was strong with this one.

BETWEEN WILD & RUIN is filled with Native American folklore, magic, and brings out the hard questions about death and what makes a person beautiful. It is very much a Beauty and the

I was intrigued when I first saw the description and had a feeling it would be a great story. It was so much better than great.

The mysteries drag you through each page, begging you to learn more, to understand the world that Ruby is suddenly thrust into. There's so much more going on beneath the surface, and there was one twist, in particular, that I totally didn't see coming.

The story itself is reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast, while the atmosphere feels distinctly Twilight, but Between Wild

This is an amazing book that is a terrific young adult contemporary/romance/paranormal story, but is so much more. I am well beyond my young adult years and could not put Between Wild and Ruin down. The story focuses on Ruby, a young woman who loses her mother and relocates with her aunt from bustling Los Angeles to small town New Mexico. There she makes friends, including a mysterious young man she’s attracted to against her better judgment, and learns that the legends of New Mexico are more re ...more

This was a great character driven story! At first I thought it was going to be on the silly side but what I found was a thought out story with amazing characters. I loved Ruby and was able to really identify with her and her situation. This was an amazing story about romance, fantasy, and fairy tales. I think those who loved Twilight will really love this one! I know I did!! The paranormal aspects of this story were done so well that I really hope to get a print copy of this one soon!!!

Between Wild and Ruin by Jennifer G Edelson follows Ruby, a teen transplanted from LA to La Luna after her mother's death. She's torn between the adventure of it all, and being removed from known friends and places. Ruby lives with her Aunt Liddy in a beautiful home a ways out of town. This tiny town in New Mexico holds unfathomable secrets just waiting to be discovered.

Hiking up the mountain near her home, Ruby discovers an ancient ruin from the Pecos Indians. Legend says it is a gateway to Ott
A thoughtful YA novel that combines a coming of age story with romance and fairy tale elements and features well-researched, fascinating descriptions about New Mexico history, landscape, and cultures. The author’s writing style is lyrical and captivating and brings the reader in to this mysterious, mesmerizing world.

Goosebumps immediately raises the hairs on my arms when I think of this fantastic fantasy.

Ruby moves to a secluded community in Arizona after the death of her mother. Living with her Aunt Libby, she is trying to put her life back together after the tragic lost. However, she keeps this a secret from her new friends she meets.

When Ruby explores the mountain behind her home, she discovers a ruin.... it's secluded, and she can tell that it is very old. The area around it feels still, except for a hu

A meticulously unfolded, compelling, and all-engrossing paranormal coming-of-age romance

Ruby Brooks has been through a lot in her short nearly-eighteen years of life. Her mother wasn’t all that present so she was mostly raised by her aunt; and then completely after her mother apparently committed suicide. To give them both a fresh start, her aunt moves them from Los Angeles to the small town of La Luna, New Mexico. Ruby is instantly the hottest commodity in the tiny, gossip-prone town.

Is it possible for a book to make you feel homesick for a place that has never actually been your home?

I loved this! It was filled with teenage drama (I'm looking at you, Las Gallinas) and a unique paranormal take on New Mexico folklore. Without spoiling anything I liked the way Ms. Edelson drew out the mystery, she had me on the edge of my seat and now I NEED to know what happens in book 2!

I don't usually like books that remind me what it was like to be in love as a teenager. That all-consumin

I liked this story very much. It started off a bit slow but picked up and kept my interest. Ruby is a young girl that has experienced some hardships in her life and mixed with a move and meeting new friends, she is in for a wild ride. In a town that is rich with folklore and mystery, Ruby finds herself trying to distinguish between what is real and what isn’t.

Along the way, this is a story of what makes a family, trust and friendship and the lore of the unknown. Fair warning, this story ends on

My friend loaned me this book because I'm from Albuquerque and uff, I'm SO happy-glad she did. I loved the story so much and all the description because it felt so much like home. I could relate to all the different character's backgrounds and what it's like to grow up in New Mexico. BUT even if I wasn't from here, I would have loved the setting anyway. Between Wild and Ruin was an intriguing, coming of age, supernatural romance and I really liked it.

The author developed the characters in a nice and fluid manner. I liked Ruby in the lead and how she tries to adjust to her new life with Libby. Moreover, I enjoyed Ruby and Ezra’s relationship. The two of them share a very nice chemistry that is filled with angst and romance. The dialogues they share with each other is memorable, w

Being quarantine was a very difficult task but the books made it really easy for me to isolate from a world and get into a new one. A new world where these books took me here is one of those books called "Between Wild and Ruin". Starting with the cover of the book it's a quite creative one and gives a different story vibe which is totally relevant. The title being a catchy one is a perfect title of the book and does it's work perfectly.

Truth, like love, isn’t always obvious.

Ruby just wants to forget the last horrible year and blend in. Between wild and Ruin is one such book which has power to bound the readers till the end. Story is so gripping and very different from some high school drama that you can think of.
The Plot is very interesting and Jennifer tries to blend high school drama with romance and fantasy which  makes this book an unputdownable read for me.I finish this book in just one day. Characters are also very well defined and every one has their own role and identity. Narration is also very smooth and the story goe

Ruby’s not sure what to believe. Does she believe what she sees or what she knows about the way things should be? Ezra is either an angry young man or needs to work on his attitude. Angel seems to be the older man, older than Ruby, interested in a young lady.

You can feel the edges of a fairy tale as you read. You may even decide which one you think it is. When first introduced to Ruby, I thought that this would be a good read for teens and up. A story that’s mixed between a fairy tale and folk

What a refreshing and thoughtful novel exploring love, death, and inner peace.

Ruby's struggles to understand her mother's death is very real and insightful.  Add to that having to repeat her senior year at a new high school and meeting new friends is a challenging task.  However, Ruby's tenacious and beguiling nature are addicting to everyone who comes in contact with her.  Her willingness to give everyone a chance, including the moody and broken Ezra, is a tribute to her good character.  As for
