The Man She Fears Is Her Only Chance For Survival . . .

All Christina Astle wants is to reach Oregon before her baby is born, but the wagon train is attacked, and her husband killed, stranding her in a mountain labyrinth. Raised in the East, within civilization’s embrace, survival is not a skill she’s learned. Neither is evading the lone warrior dogging her trail.

Carrie Schmidt (Reading is My SuperPower)
In her latest book, Angela K. Couch has penned a layered romance with plenty of chemistry and tender emotion. The rugged historical backdrop sets the stage for an often harrowing journey to not just physical destinations but emotional ones as well. An engaging story that explores the love of mothers, fathers, and spouses... and the most important Love of all.

This is my favorite story by this author. I loved the hero Towan. The history, survival, and overcoming the odds will keep you reading.
Okay, I do not know how many times I need to say this, but I NEED more books in the Christian Fiction genre like this. I don't know why, but I absolutely love them to death. I honestly blame Spirit for my undeniable love for the Native American people. Every time I see that I have an opportunity to read a book about a white woman (or man) falling in love with a Native American, I immediately jump up and embrace the opportunity. But seriously if y'all have any recommendations with an interracial ...more

Ms. Couch pens a multi-faceted story of survival and courage, of overcoming preconceived prejudices, finding acceptance and forgiveness. On her journey on the Oregon Trail, Christina loses her husband in an attack on members of their wagon train. Left stranded, and very pregnant, she must find the courage to survive. Can she trust the Indian warrior who trails her? Born to a white father and Shoshone mother, Towan is caught between worlds. Not only is this a journey of survival, it is a journey ...more
I realize it’s probably wrong to speak ill of the dead, but my first thought about this book was: who makes his wife travel across country while she’s pregnant? In a covered wagon? In 1859? I mean, we’re not talking speedy air travel here, or a luxury car. And then he leaves her in an attempt to play hero, alone with only a shotgun. Some things just don’t make sense. But Astle’s exit makes room for Towan’s entrance, so there is that.

Heart of a Warrior is a story about trusting the “other,” even

Westward expansion is an era that holds an interest for me. In Heart of a Warrior Angela Couch touches on events that often occurred during this time period - death of a spouse on the trail, rough white men posing as Indians while doing wrong, white women being taken into Native American villages and being treated kindly, descendents of a white/native union being treated poorly (sometimes by both people groups). The plot is well-thought out and pulls the reader into the story. Christina and Towa ...more

I love historical fiction and that was my motivation to read this book. This is my first book by this author.
The courage and strength of Christina was so beautiful. She was suddenly thrown in unexpected circumstances and we see her struggle and how she pulled through. Towan was such a loving and inspirational character. He was tender and caring towards Christina and her son. Most of all, he chose to love like Christ.
The story is action packed and emotional.

This book surprises the reader with an a avalanche of emotional impact. The story is well plotted with an even pace leading to cliff hangers that keep the pages turning. The character development intrigues the reader as new information unfolds and requires action that reveals motives.

I honestly did not know what to expect when I started reading this book. It was the title that caught my attention initially. But as I kept on reading, the book kept on drawing me in.
The characters were so relatable. At a particular point reading I shed some tears.
Christiana was thrown into situations she was never prepared for and she was hanging by a thread. But her inner strength and drive to survive and protect herself and her son in the most dire of situations was nothing short of courageo

Nineteenth-century historical fiction is and always has been my favorite genre, one which I never tire of reading. While much of the subject matter may remain similar, skillful authors will develop unique sets of circumstances and create enough nuances to set their stories apart. Angela Couch accomplishes this with her novel “Heart of a Warrior,” which is a tale of survival, romance, and faith in the Rocky Mountains in 1859. This is the first of her works that I have read, and it won’t be the la ...more

This one wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t my favorite either. I managed to read it in one day. Towan was the main reason that I stuck with this book and finished it. I did not like Christina. I liked the premise of this book, but having a main character that I didn’t care for made it hard to read. I really liked Towan and his mother.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

HEART OF A WARRIOR by Angela Couch
My first ever book by this author but oh my, it won’t be my last. I had tears all in my eyes when I was reading close to the end. A true warrior that made my heart beat faster. Towan was so tender with Christina and the baby. He really touched my heart. Not knowing where he belonged was hard. A book that made me want to read faster but yet I wanted to savor every word. I didn’t know if it would have a happy ending because I didn’t know this author’s writing. A

Angela K. Couch is a new author for me and I wasn't sure what to expect in reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised how well the book is written. The Author has a GREAT writing style that keeps the reader enticed and interested in the book.

I really LOVED the Characters, Christina and Towan. Christina is truly a strong woman who fought through many battles that came her way. I really liked that characteristic in her, as she is raising a son and he will eventually see how strong she is and f

As a long time bookworm there are few books that grab my attention and I have that can't put down moment. Heart of a Warrior was one of these books from the very first page. I absolutely loved the story and found myself for both cheering for Towan and Christine and weeping at times. Because of this book, I found myself ordering her other books and devouring those as well. Read the story A Heart of a Warrior you will NOT be disappointed.

Angela K. Couch does a good job of portraying a man caught between two worlds and the woman who has to wrestle with her prejudices to see beyond a person's skin tone and heritage.

Christina was an interesting character. In some ways she seemed selfish because she didn't truly understand the sacrifices Towan made for her but a lot of what comes across as selfishness could simply be ignorance. She had no idea how to survive outside of her sheltered world and no idea what to do in the world where To

Heart of a Warrior by Angela K. Couch is an emotional story about a young widow’s survival when her wagon becomes separated from the rest of her wagon train along the Oregon Trail. A native man comes to her rescue and the clash of cultures weaves a captivating tale.

Christina Astle and her husband struggle to keep up with the wagon train because, as far along as she is in her pregnancy, travel has become difficult. When they hear shooting in the direction the wagons have gone, Christina’s husband

Absolutely fantastic read, grounding in its strength and awe inspiring in its depth. Set on the Oregon Trail in the 1859, this story has guts and heart as well as the depth and excitement necessary to satisfy any romance reader's palate. Besides the diverse characters of pioneering city folk, Trappers, Indians, and scoundrels, there is so much more that makes this story spectacular. It is filled with intense drama, deception, treachery, and romance. The detail of the characters and surroundings, ...more

"Heart of a Warrior" by Angela K. Couch, book reivew

Christina has lived a sheltered privileged life, but longs for adventure.  So when Anthony captures her heart, she eagerly marries him and they set off on the Oregon Trail.  As the miles drag on, she becomes more uncomfortable than most, because she is pregnant, and longs to reach their new home before the baby arrives.  But tragedy strikes when Anthony is killed, and Christina is separated from the rest of the wagon train.

From the very first sentence, I was captivated by the vividly painted scenery, dangers of the unknown, and the raw vulnerability as the characters navigated their own thoughts, fears, and the wilderness that surrounded the Oregon Trail. Heart of a Warrior was a beautifully crafted story of friendship, love, loss, and finding a place of belonging. Although this was my first book by Angela Couch, it definitely won’t be my last!

I LOVE this cover!! Don’t you? It is what made me stop and look at the description! …. And I was hooked. I had never read anything by Angela K. Couch, but I enjoy finding new authors.

I so enjoyed the way Angela K. Couch described the characters and their surroundings, it was vividly done and was very well researched. I loved Towan, he is a total dream-worthy guy. Towan displayed courage, patience, and an overabundance of forgiveness. All the while struggling with knowing who he is and whom God

It took me a bit to get into this one, but once I did, I couldn't put it down! It was so unpredictable. I fought the urge several times to flip to the back of the book just to make sure things turned out well.

I felt ALL of the emotions. I'm an emotional cheese puff, so this isn't unexpected. But man, this book put my heart through the wringer. Like I said, once I was invested, I was in for the long haul and the long haul is a journey, y'all.

Fantastic characters that became part of me! This was so beautifully written, this book touched every part of my soul. The characters grew and matured into how they looked at the world, the many trials they endured only helped them. The author does a fabulous job of taking the reader on such a journey that you feel that you’ve lived a life time with these characters. Story Notes

Angela K. Couch presents readers with a story of sacrifice, survival and learning to love the most unexpected person.

Ms. Couch is a new to me author but one I would happily read more from very soon. I loved her way of creating a story that had both life, adventure and romance in equal measure. The characters were raw, real and sometimes very hurtful to each other bu

The description of this book was intriguing to me — an Indian warrior, a sudden-made widow in the wilderness, a newborn babe . . .

This book was definitely interesting! From the beginning it caught my attention, and it was hard to put down — I think I finished it in a day. The descriptions of the wilderness were filled with vivid imagery, and a picture was painted in my minds eye that let me “see” the characters. The raid, the hooligans and outlaws, the Indian village — all of it was so descript

This was my first book by Angela Couch and it was spectacular! One of those stories I could not put down and finished it in a day and a half. I must admit that I am one of those people that get suckered into a book by the cover, despite telling myself "never judge a book by its cover" and sadly I did with this one and I'm so embarrassed about that because after all that's what this book is all about. For me judgement and biased opinions is the theme of this book. Don't get me wrong there is plen ...more

Fascinated by history and in love with creating fiction, Angela K Couch has been lost in writing novels most of her life. As a passionate believer in Christ, she can't help her faith from permeating the stories she tells. Often her martial arts training, love of horses, and appreciation for good romance sneaks in there as well.
