Rule #1 Never get caught. Rule #2 Never be seen.

Airily isn't too excited to follow the rules when humans move into the farmhouse her sparrow fairy family calls home. Tempted to the kitchen, Airily falls into the human boy’s trap. Although she doesn’t trust him, getting in trouble with Poppa is not on her agenda. She buys Josh’s silence with a binding promise of friendship.

A delightful tale of fantasy. The lore is well thought-out and consistent: fairies that masquerade as birds but are physically embodied in a half-bird form. They eke out a living in a symbiotic arrangement with humans (unbeknownst to the humans) but carry with them remnant powers of a locked-off fairy world. It harkens back to the old European legends of fairies in a respectful way while creatively placing the thrust of the story in the present with believable dialogue and characters. A main the ...more

Follow little Airily and her family and friends on an amazing adventure. With characters you’ll adore and a story line that will captivate you won’t want to put this one down.

This book is full of magic and suspense. It really draws you in right from the start. It’s a perfect read for young readers and I can’t wait to share it with my 11 year old niece.

It has wonderful themes of family, friendship, and learning to trust. It also explores good and evil.

I loved the characters and hope to hear mo

This magical tale will steal your heart and have you wishing you were a kid again. I love stories about fairies and I can honestly say, Shay does an excellent job of immersing the reader into the lives of the fairies and little Josh. Boy was I envious of his adventure. I have to admit, though, my favorite character was gruff Black Burn. LOL!

The Borrowers meets The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Cute story about a sparrow-fairy family hiding in the attic rafters of a house with a newly-moved-in human family. I loved the descriptions of their nest, with all their found objects repurposed, and the growing friendship and respect between Airily and the human boy, Josh. Though I gotta say, trickster crow-fairy Black Burn was my favorite character! I'd love to read a companion novel in her perspective ;)

My 8 year-old is eager to read it next, esp

Shay Emms writes, draws, paints, and then writes some more. She was born in Montana but now lives in Oregon which provides endless inspiration… if you count moss growing on trees as inspiration. Which she does. Her obsessions include birds, books, and talking mice stories. She loves fantasy, magic, and witches, and left to her own devices would probably write them into everything.
