The Deplosion Saga: Special Chronological Edition

The universe is running out of time SPECIAL “CHRONO” EDITION for readers who prefer a linear (not braided) timeline, this boxed set reworks the same exciting contents of the Deplosion saga into separate Near Future and Far Future streams. Trouble begins when lattice-enhanced Darian Leigh cracks the code of reality, revealing the path to Godhood and pitting government, religion, and science in a race to determine the destiny of humanity. The controversial inventor’s deepest fears come to life when Alum, a politically ambitious religious leader, steals the technology and proclaims Himself the Living God. He activates a well-intentioned Divine Plan to re-create the natural universe in His own version of Heaven, a Plan that will destroy the limitless possibilities encapsulated in quantum uncertainty. To the rebel heirs of Darian’s discovery, a predictable, orderly Heaven sounds like the perfect Hell and they want no part of it. From humans to Cybrid AIs to the people of Eso-La and the alien Aelu, no one is safe. The rebellion will engulf thousands of galaxies and catch the interest of the Six—six traitorous, paranoid deities from alien civilizations recruited in the final moments of desperation. Can this disparate group of rebels cooperate long enough to defeat every bit of Alum’s vastly distributed consciousness? Pick your format. Read the Deplosion series in its original four-volume version or this special chronological edition, and enjoy an epic tale spanning from the pre-Big Bang Chaos to a distant future where humanity has spread across the known universe.

“Life is big enough for more than one dream.”

Canadian author Paul Anlee writes provocative, epic sci-fi in the style of Asimov, Heinlein, Asher, and Reynolds, stories that challenge our assumptions and stretch our imagination. Literary, fact-based, and fast-paced, the Deplosion series explores themes in philosophy, politics, religion, economics, AI, VR, nanotech, synbio, quantum reality, and beyond.

“When done right, I think sci-fi is the best genre for challenging what you think you know about the universe and your place in it. One reason I write is to shine a bright, rigorous light on the assumptions in our everyday interactions with our world.

“In large part, I became a scientist because of my love of science fiction. It made me think of a future I hoped to help create. Helping others to create their own visions of the future is another reason I write. Although my specialty was molecular biology and genetics, it was not long before I was involved in the new fields of nanotechnology and synthetic biology.

“As a scientist/storyteller, I try not to use "magical" explanations as the basis for any of my settings, conflicts, or resolutions. I think long and hard about a plausible scientific rationale for everything important that happens in my stories. If I can't see some way that something could have a natural explanation, I won't use it.

“That's quite a challenge in the Deplosion series as I cover quite a range of ideas: a universe evolving naturally from virtual particles; a generated field that changes the natural laws of physics; a way to grow a supercomputer in your head; a combination of artificial intelligence and downloading of a human mind; instantaneous travel throughout the universe; virtual worlds; buildings you grow; genetic engineering for living on different planets; etc.

“For each of these, I can conceive of a scientific route that justifies the different technologies in question. Add in political intrigue, religion, philosophy, and human passion and you have the kind of story I enjoy reading. That's what I try to write.”

Paul Anlee and his wife live in Cuenca Ecuador, where they are learning Spanish and Tai Chi, exploring the Andes, and crafting exciting and provocative stories guaranteed to challenge your thinking.

Note: I received a free reviewer copy in return for an honest review.

Author Paul Anlee has all of the credentials needed to make the Deplosion Saga one of the best "hard" science-based sci-fi series in recent history. This work is speculative fiction at its best. It will make you think. It will cause you to dream about the distant future. It will not only exercise your "inner scientist" brain cells, but also will require deep examination of ethical, philosophical, and spiritual issues. But, all of this cogitation will occur while you are immersed in an incredibly well-crafted high adventure series of four fine novels.

You can read each novel separately, if you want, but I chose to read the The Deplosion Saga: Special Chronological Edition, which reorganizes and integrates the same material according to a more chronological timeline.

Anlee offers special notes for book clubs or classes at the end of each volume.

Because of his deep knowledge and education in multiple sciences, Paul Anlee is able to make some extremely interesting scientific speculations. I hasten to point out, though, that the Deplosion Saga is also a deeply human work. It is filled with fascinating characters and plenty of human drama.

All in all, I could not make myself give it any less than five stars.

Highly recommended!

A very good and thought stimulating book. The author’s “book club” discussion questions really addressed deep thinking. I would recommend this book to anyone, not just sci-Fi fans.

The "Deplosion Saga" is exactly what I needed to escape boredom during COVID19. If you're getting kind of tired of watching formulaic series on Netflix, you're a perfect candidate for Paul Anlee's Deplosion Series. Nothing formulaic about his writing. His hard core, "lattice enhanced boy wonder" & techno-dude Darian Leigh will keep you at the edge of your seat from the first page of "The Reality Thief" to the last. Now near the end of book two (Incursion), I think I've learned to be a shifter -- at least toward book 3. Highly recommend this series if you like well developed characters (I'm partial to brilliant Sharon Leigh!), imaginative takes on paradigm- shifting technology, particle physics, econ, IA, developmental biology, philosophy, hard science, Tai Chi, and so much more.
