Light Up the World: Inspiration for a New Humanity

Rate this book
At a time when authentic words of wisdom are in short supply, there is one single clear, wise voice. It is the voice of our own heart.

Light Up the World is a collection of poetry and prose to inspire new ways of being in ourselves and in the world. It is a timely contemplation that points to the truth of who we are and what that means for each of us and for humanity as a whole. It explores themes of love, silence, courage, nature, body, mind and spirit as well as soul and heart-based leadership.

Both visionary and lucid, it is a reflection on a universal process of emergence and coming to understanding. It is a call to follow our hearts in order to build a kinder, more equitable and sustainable world for all.

As with our own being, so too these words hold the seeds of potential of everything we need to realise the ever-present truth of who we are, and to support awakening for all. The fruits are greater presence, awareness, authenticity and compassion.

Light Up the World encourages us all on the path of greater self-inquiry and action towards peace, compassion and loving service. Ultimately, it is a book about personal and collective truth, empowerment, wisdom, and waking up to our true nature.

The journey starts within.

Readers who like the work of Bren Brown, Eckhart Tolle, Elizabeth Gilbert, Deepak Chopra, Rupi Kaur, Gabor Mate, Russell Brand and other luminaries will enjoy the unique insight and inspiration of this journey of personal and collective transformation.

I really liked this book, though it is not my usual fare. A combination of poetry and prose, it was the prose sections that really spoke to me, although they are so beautifully written they almost read like poetry themselves. Each piece is like a micro-essay on themes such as Moving on, Silence and Creativity. They are incredibly soothing to read - like meditations. In a world which often feels crazy and overwhelming, this book provided a series of moments to pause, and settle, and an invitation to think about what matters most. Heart-filling & thought-provoking.

I love dipping in and out of this book. The combination of poetry and prose works really well for me. My copy is full of post-it notes and underlinings. I was struggling with feeling like I had 'permission' to be creative the first time I read this, and that section in particular spoke to me. Today the chapter on Courage was what I needed. To me, this book is like a gentle challenge for me to observe my patterns. I feel like it was offered with love.

"Light Up the World" by Mark Simpson is a collection of poetry and prose that seeks to enlighten the reader.
Each of the thirteen chapters includes a thematic poem and a follow up essay. One that struck me is "Moving On."

“MOVING ON
I’m moving on to other things
For in my heart a songbird sings
So this goodbye is harder still
For it knows love and bears no ill”

The following prose goes on to discuss change and how choosing different options in our lives can be both positive and negative. The newness can bring fresh outlooks that might otherwise have been missed. This was a powerful section.

Other sections include: Awake, Follow Your Heart, Courage, Silence, Darkness, Rising, Soul, Creativity, True Nature, Inspiration, Light Up the World, and Love and Beyond.

These thirteen sections each highlight a spirituality found within quiet moments of self-reflection. Th poet has sone a lovely job of incorporating poetry in his prose.
