Nicholas Hunt is the man I hate.
For good reason.

His opinion of me is tainted by prejudice even before my arrival at his grandmother’s estate, and my first impression of him is just as abysmal.

His arrogance and icy demeanor make it clear that he’s the type of man who’s best handled at a distance.

Fortunately, space shouldn’t be an issue inside this Gilded Age mansion and its

Angst, longing and HEART (and a couple of tears)

Maren Mitchell – less than.
The world was never kind to Maren Mitchell. For years she’s been struggling to curve her place in a society that rejects her, and she’s come to anticipate one setback after the next. What she never anticipated was to be offered the chance to work at Rosethorn, a lush, Gilded Age mansion, owned by the powerful and disgustingly rich Cromwell family. Her employment, the time she spends with Cornelia Cromwell and the stuff, t

Until this book, I have had a similar experience for each R.S. Grey book that I have read: I have loved them.Unfortunately, with this novel though, I didn't have that exact feeling. I did like it and it was still a good story but with her other novels, I felt like a madwoman racing through the pages because I couldn't get enough. With this novel, even though it was a good story, there was something missing that didn't have me fully attached.

If I was to compare this novel to anything, I'd say it

i read a review of someone saying this book was lacking that r.s grey magic and i couldn’t have put it better myself tbh

the romance was dull, i didn’t care for any of the characters, i didn’t really like Maren or Nicholas and i was disappointed in the writing bc i KNOW this isn’t her best work and i am sad

if this wasn’t one of my fav romcom authors then i would’ve undoubtedly dnf halfway through but i marched on ok

Super boring. Couldn't get into it at all. Heroine and Hero don't have any real interactions or conversations, or even actually meet, until about 25% in, and only about 6 short conversations 60% in, which is when I quit. This book didn't even feel like a romance. It felt like a book about the heroine getting lucky and going from rags to riches, and also adjusted pretty well while leeching off of others with no shame.

No chemistry, no witty banter, and pretty insta love with how littl

Aaw that epilogue left me with a big grin on my face. For whatever reason, this doesn't happen very often anymore which is why I'm bumping this otherwise 3.5* read to 4*.

As you might know, I'm a sucker for the having-prejudices type of stories, so I may be a bit biased but all in all, I'm quite happy with this book. Of course, I would have liked it more if the story's main focus were on the romance rather than on Maren finding herself but fortunately, the romance didn't come too short (as I init

Good story but a little underwhelming when it comes to the romance between the characters. Love the One You Hate gives you a Cinderella-enemies-to-lovers vibe as Maren Mitchell landed a new job and she has to live in a luxurious family. Cornelia Cromwell met Maren at a nursing home where she visits a friend and instantly had a soft spot to her. When Maren was wrongly accused for something she didn't do, Cornelia offered her a proposition to work in her place instead.

Maren's love interest is Cor

Last few books by RS Grey were disappointing so I don't know if my expectations got lower or her writing got back to her standard. Either way after a long time I enjoyed her book. This one especially felt like a watching a romantic movie, it was light and heart-warming at the same time. If the chemistry between Maren and Nicholas were stronger, it would be a perfect read.
The cover is probably my favorite but I don't think it is fitting for the story.

Maren Mitchell is definitely the star of this book. She captured me from the very first pages and it was amazing to see her making friends, traveling and believing in herself. I loved how determined, smart and strong she was even when people doubted her time and time again. ⁣

Nicholas Hunt was grumpy in the sweetest kind of way because he was only like that to protect his family and friends better. I loved how close he was to his grandma and his friends, especially Tori. Their interactions w

This is a sad, sad day everyone. A VERY SAD ONE. The dreaded day has come: I've finally hit a wall with R.S. Grey and I am SO FUCKING SAD about it.

I've said this before and it won't change: RS Grey is a queen when it comes to rom-com... BUT, lately I've found myself not connecting with her books and I feel it's because they don't change that much between one and other and, also, because the character growth is almost non-existent. And hey, maybe that's just me.

When I started reading this book i

R.S. Grey is the best in enemies to lovers romance and this one was so good!Whenever I start a book of her she makes my mood!

I love her writing and her characters are fantastic!I loved the teasing between Nicholas and Maren, they have a great chemistry! And it has slow burn so another plus!

Overall it was a great read!

I liked this one, especially the first half was really good, then it went a bit predictable and too comfortable for my liking. I didn't see enough of the "hate" for me to believe they actually disliked each other except the first two interactions. After that it was clear they were attracted to each other and were already in the "lust-love" phase. Still a great book and would recommend, but if you're a fan of R.S. Grey like myself, it was nothing new from this author.

Yeah, I wouldn’t call this a romance and it definitely is not enemies to lovers.

After just 5 minutes they’re all lovey-dovey and sleeping together.
Besides that they literally don’t have any real interactions whatsoever.
How do you expect your main characters to have chemistry if they don’t even talk to each other.

And also the whole idea of Cornelia just giving Maren this job...totally unrealistic.
Just like the unnecessary side storylines.

The only reason I’m giving this 2 Stars is because of the a

This book kind of reminded me the old harlequin romances. The rich rude stuck up H and poor beautiful h. Unfortunately, this book doesn’t have the harlequin charm.

The h is very poor who is suddenly appointed as a companion to a very rich old woman. I doubt the word companion as the h is living like a princess there. She has no work to do except accompany the old woman to balls , eat food with her etc. She gets to wear the best dresses. Living in the best suite. I hardly think this was a job and

DNF at about 45%. I read enough to give it 2 'it was ok' stars, but I couldn't be bothered reading anymore. The billionaire and the poor woman trope is OK, but for me this book wasn't really working. The way that the heroine ended up employed by and living with the hero's grandmother just seemed ridiculous and unbelievable to me. Perhaps there's some big reveal later that explains why it happened so suddenly, but sadly, I just wasn't engaged enough with the characters to want to read on and find ...more

“Touching Maren feels like that, like I’m defiling an angel, kissing my way straight to hell.”

R.S. Grey has done it again!! I fell totally, completely, absolutely head over heels for Nicholas and Maren. Love the One You Hate is definitely a favorite read of mine for 2020!

Love the One You Hate follows the story of Maren and Nicholas. When we first meet up with Maren, she is down on her luck. She’s working a thankless job where she has been accused of things due to her past. Maren’s life has been

It’s no secret I love R.S. Grey’s books – she’s one of my very favorite authors for a fun read! This book is reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice (so I’m told, I haven’t actually read it myself – ha!). I love how this book started out with a young girl (Maren) being swept away from her stressful and underprivileged life by a mysterious elderly benefactor. Little does Maren know, Cornelia’s grandson is about to make her life a living hell!

Usually, Grey’s books are a

This was.....good.....but definitely not one of R.S. Grey's best.

There was something lacking overall. The romance fell flat (but I wouldn't even consider romance to be at the focus of this book anyway). Dare I say it felt kind of insta-lovey. There was really no tension or any major conflict either? I was expecting a build up to some huge problem....but there was none. The ending was rushed....like it cut off out of nowhere. This one definitely lacked flavor and it kind of explains how R.S. Gre

I enjoyed this one! I read this in one sitting and had a good time reading it. While it does have romance in it, I saw the romance as a subplot. However, I actually liked that! We got to see our main character, Maren, grow as a person and realize that she had so much to offer and was more than her past.

I really liked Maren. She was easily likable and someone that you wanted to root for. Her past was hard and she kept getting judged for it by people who didn’t take the time to know her. She got a

3.5 stars rounded up because I really liked the first 50% of this book.

"I live by your breath." I absolutely adored all of the little words of love that Nicholas spoke to Maren after he realized how much he had fallen. He was trying to convince her they belonged together, even if it wasn't clear how this would work. They were from completely different worlds, and yet they came together seamlessly.

Maren is a girl that bounced around from foster home to foster home after her parents died and Nicho

I'm a HUGE fan of R.S. Grey's books. I've never read one that I didn't love, and thankfully this was no exception. I felt this one was a bit different than her others, mainly because the romance wasn't the focus for the majority of the book, like it usually is. This story was much more about Maren and her daily life than it was an enemies-to-lovers romance. The romance was mainly only at the end. But since I wasn't looking for a full-on romance, this story was really enjoyable to me. Another gre ...more

It's come to my attention that this story is more women's fiction than romance. I have never intentionally read women's fiction so I didn't know what I was getting myself into. It's not a romance the way her other books are, that's for sure. So this kind of validates my feelings (or lack thereof) for this book.

Am I just a stone-cold bitch or what, because this story didn’t tug at my heartstrings? It started off really strong and I had high hopes for it, just like I do for everything I can get my

I’ve been a huge fan of R.S. Grey’s books for quite some time now, and have enjoyed everything I’ve read by her so far. But, although I’ve enjoyed both main characters in Love The One You Hate, as well as the side characters, I felt like this one missed the mark in a few areas for me.

I don't know if this makes sense, I've been trying to figure out how to say it...What you ask? The simple fact that this book is SO R.S. Grey but at the same time SO different! With that being said, flawlessly I am sure. I will try to explain. I have read and enjoyed every book Ms. Grey has published, I read Behind His Lens and LOVED it when it first came out in 2013 ish I think. OG Fan here.
