I get wrapped in the language of Carol Deering's poems, like "Snow stirs a shiver of birds past the uprooted moon," and "Her breath leaves the pane a blister of stars." Deering doesn't miss an opportunity to use surprising and elegant descriptions throughout her poems as she breathes new life into familiar places or events and creates new imagery. In a poem about the 1988 Yellowstone fire, Deering writes, "Pines jumped crimson out of feathered greenery, sighed and mingled, kindling delirium." A beautiful collection of poems.
