Don’t miss this twisted tale from the pages of the game-changing event “Batman: Knightfall”! Thirty years after Bruce Wayne was broken and failed to take back the mantle of the Bat, Jean-Paul Valley, now known as Saint Batman, has turned Gotham into the city of his dreams. In his new order, killing has become commonplace and criminals live in constant fear-all in the name of justice. But just when all seems lost, a new hope for Gotham City rises… the son of Bane!
Very good start to this new series of Dark Multiverse one-shots! Set in a dark future where Bruce Wayne failed to take back his mantel from Azreal, as the Knightfall Batman reigned supreme! Overall though I actually enjoyed this one a lot! Hope they continue this momentum with the death of superman book!
I’ve yet to read Knightfall and the Dark Multiverse doesn’t do much for me, so maybe this wasn’t for me. Bruce Wayne surviving as a head and...half a torso? How far is my suspension of disbelief supposed to be pushed?
Whenever my comic shop has a sale, all the surburban teenagers flock towards books like this Tales From the Dark Multiverse shit, so I’ve mostly tried to avoid it, but I was given both of these hardcovers as a gift, so decided to finally start them.
Is this just edgy drivel that only appeals to sheltered teens like I assumed it was, or is there something more here? Nope it’s the former for sure.
I mean this isn’t terrible, but it’s mostly just “LOOK HOW FUCKED UP THIS TERRIBLE EVENT COULD HAVE GONE!” And the one used here is Knightfall, an event I don’t like, with Scott Snyder telling an okay story using elements from that dumb one. At least the art is pretty, which definitely helps this book out. I also have to say, Tempus Fuginaut is the single dumbest character ever created.
This just isn’t for me, but damn it’s like the perfect gift for grandmothers to give their nephews thet know nothing about.
I've been interested in the dark multiverse since its introduction in dark night metal. The concept of a doomed multiverse that mirrors our multiverse is so intriguing. This series is some of DC's most iconic events that take a much more darker turn. I was a little disappointed that a few events were exactly like prime earth's like the death of superman and blackest might part 1. Batman Knightfall really made me look at Jean Paul Valley in another light. I was surprised he was able to overpower Bruce Wayne. I mainly know Jean Paul from the TV series Gotham and Justice Leagie Odyssey. So I know he's a founding son of Gotham and religious fanatic. HIs Saint Batman was a real piece of work. He felt like a dictator that only wanted Bruce's approval. I enjoyed the new take on the death of superman. Having Lois Lane get vengence for Clark was the icing on the cake. She went over the line to get results, even took down Batman. How messed up is it for her to kill her husband's best friend?! Her pain wouldn't stop. She wondered why Clark didn't do more. Even superman's short return wasn't enough to change her. Without him, she's doomed to be a vengeful angel of darkness. Blackest night really upset me. Prime Earth's Sinestro was awesome for his decision. Dark Multiverse Sinestro let his arrogance destroy his world. It's funny how one person can really make a difference. Thanks to good old Sinestro, the black lanterns are spreading death everywhere to create more black lanterns. The odd team up of sinestro, dove, Lobo, and mister miracle was up to the task of reversing the deaths. It was a cool team up with strange results. Now infinite crisis was unxpected. I know it involves Wonder Woman doing something bad. Ted Kord isn't taken seriously like his good friend, Booster Gold. I liked the nerd turning into a supervillian, without even knowing it trope. He basically became Lex Luthor. Doing things for the greater good no matter the cost. The league should have listened to his warnings about the crisis. Things could have been different but still bad in the dark multiverse. Teen Titans the Judas Contract really caught me off guard. I had no idea what Terra was capable of. I knew she had feelings for slade even though i'm it's so inappropriate. All it took was a famous Dick Grayson empathy talk for her to want to break free. She racked up so many body counts, including her beloved Slade. I understand her desire to be free, but killing never helps fill the void in your heart. Like Lois the Superwoman, Terra is doomed to be the lonely rock goddess of her world. It was cool to read the original broken bat storyline from batman #497. Bane released arkhman inmates and showed up at Wayne manor. I knew the inmates were just distractions that slowed batman's stamina down. How bold was it to show up to the manor? It was impressive that he figured out his identity. Batman was so outmatched. You'd be too if you fought so many rouges earlier. I didn't enjoy infinte crisis part 1 too much. I liked the dark multiverse story better. I always enjoy reading the Judas contract part 4: finale. I loved seeing Joey aka Jericho's involvement. They would all be screwed without that metahuman. .it always hurts my heart that changeling never gave up on Terra even after she obviously betrayed them. That just shows how trusting and a good person Garfield Logan is. This is a must read all DC comics fan!

The Dark Multiverse, expanded upon after the mind-bending Dark Nights: Metal saga from Scott Snyder was an interesting concept, adding to the already expansive Batman Mythos.
Harkening back to the Infinite Crisis and more specifically to JLA: Earth 2 by Grant Morrison, as well as its much underrated by narratively brilliant Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths animated movie, the dark multiverse as its name implies, explores chaos theory.
For every major event which happened in the main DC continuity that we know, ones where the heroes were able to overcome great odds, and triumph over evil, there could be other alternate infinite realities, where the villains won, where evil triumphs, where the heroes fell.
Where the paragons of everything good, just and compassionate strayed from their moral compass and ended up consuming the very world and reality that they swore to protect.
Much like, soap bubbles that last for a moment and then burst to nothingness, these dark realities often imploded upon themselves. But what happens when the denizens of these doomed existences, claw their way into the light side of reality. Their very presence spreading the cancerous chaos which threatens to consume everything good and holy and worth preserving.
This concept has given the readers a litany of Elseworlds stories, where their beloved heroes fell to the dark side.
And this one-shot, exploring the butterfly effect of what would've happened, if the Dark Knight collapsed in face of his decisive battle against the usurper Azreal, paints the Black mirror version.
Quick and simple, the key takeaway of the story is a Batman who, following decades of imprisonment, torture and mental strain, succumbs to his failure, turning into an entity more dangerous than the villain he sought to vanquish.
A good read, which tickles that part of your reader's mind, that keeps asking the question, 'What if?'.
This was kind of interesting I’ll admit, but it’s sort of 30 years too late! The only people that really remember the events of Knightfall are old dudes like me! This is basically the DC version of Marvel’s ‘What If?’ comics... which again, nobody knows what that is except old dudes like me. So it’s basically not a new idea, but it’s always fun to see a different take on a classic storyline! I’d like to see a different version of the Death in the Family storyline or Killing Joke even. Jean Paul was always a really weak character and I thought it was very strange that Bruce handed the reigns to him, honestly it never really made sense, and this just proves it...
Meh. It figures what should be an Azrael story is really a Bruce Wayne story. The thing with Bruce Wayne reminds me of the old Transformers #67 by Simon Furman that also took place in a dark alternate universe where the Decepticons won and Galvatron kept Rodimus Prime's corpse to shout at it and beat it up like it were still alive. Just saying.
Going through all my backlog from the year my friends and I stopped reading comics and now I remember why. So many of these dark metal stories had less to say than random graffiti on the side of the road. This story in particular was just grimy and ugly. I understand that this was the theme of the series, but this comic in particular was so sadistic and miserable on every page it felt personal.
Hmm. Not my favorite Snyder work. It’s definitely dark, Azrael ripping off an arm and drinking from it. Ok, cool, dark. But I don’t know if it just wasn’t enough time to build a story or what...I didn’t care that much. I’m not sure I buy Bruce’s change at the end either - if he made it through that torture, why does he turn then? Eh.

Meh. It was fine. I wish it didn’t just subvert the Knightfall narrative though seems kinda lame. I feel like there’s something more you could’ve done with this premise (which I really like) instead of just doing the same thing as Knightfall did with a few changes.
Skvělá kresba, ještě lepší coloring - tenhle styl mě baví hodně, slušnej scénář, příběh příjemně sviští a nebojí se to krve. Kdyby aspoň takhle vypadaly všechny pláštěnky, tak si můžeme pískat.
