Rare is the romance that challenges the reader like this book did. In the end I was so thrilled by the book, I can't believe I was lucky enough to read it. The author has a gift for creating characters with almost never before seen depth. Take the lead character Maddie. For at least the first 30 or 40% of the book, I felt the best solution for her problems would be for her to drive off the Santa Monica Pier and keep the pedal pushed down. Then, like a caterpillar that turns into a Monarch butter

"That April in Santa Monica" by Melody DeBlois is a breath of fresh air. The book follows the journey of workaholic Madison, who has to make some serious lifestyle changes. Her path crosses with Brandon, an established teacher in Yoga who helps people take charge of their health. Both characters are well developed with flaws that instantly made them very relatable. The slow build-up of their chemistry and their growth is well written and heartfelt. Their flashbacks that reflect the past are seam

It’s taken me a few days to write a review for this story, I wanted to mull it over and see if I found myself thinking back on it. I feel ready to review now, after realising it hadn’t cropped up in my mind since reading.
The story is based around a workaholic whose life is spiralling out of control, and a reality tv show host who is trying to help her focus on her health and well-being. The story focuses on the workaholic’s recovery and her developing relationship with the tv guru.

Getting this book from voracious readers only.com, I wasn’t sure what to think. Getting into the book was a little rough but it did actually enhance the experience because I think I got into the book as Madison was able to embrace wellness. I will have to say that Brandon really felt 2D in spite of having a background and even narrating part of the story. Seeing his internal struggle honestly just reassured the readers that the romance would work out, and I don’t think we see much doubt because

Well-drawn, multi-layered characters, interspersed with the lush setting of SoCal, this is a story of two people in desperate need of redemption and self-forgiveness.
Madison Gray is courting serious, potentially fatal, health issues if she doesn't make more than a few changes in her life-style. TV guru Brandon Kennedy is just the man to help her do it.
If it weren't for those pesky TV cameras intruding into every corner of their lives and the budding attraction.
Highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. I thought the writing flowed well and the characters were great. It was a story of someone who retransformed their health for the better and I found myself inspired by the story and googling Ayurvedic health tips. I hoped Maddie and Brandon would end up together as it was beautiful that he fell in love with her from the start. Lots of insightful proverbs and thwarted deep seated fears. Great story.

I loved this book. The storyline of Madison's self growth thru the help of Guru Brandon was so well told. I liked that even though there was a love story it was not the main focus of the book. The love she found in herself was most important and the fact that Brandon also grew because of their relationship made the story that more relatable. I loved that the ending was not rushed into the perfect happy ever after. Looking forward to reading more from Melody DeBlois. I received this book free fro

This was a fun, sweet book full of good times and love… and not just between our H/h.
Madison was an interesting, realistic character. Honestly, she reminded me a little of me: driven, fueled by caffeine, seldom slowing down to relax and consider life. This catches up to her as the story opens, and we meet her as she’s slowly coming to after fainting. Her rescuer is guru Brandon, there to try to talk her into slowing down before she kills herself.

Madison is an interesting, realistic character who, like many, is driven, fueled by caffeine and junk food. She seldom slows down to relax. Her “always on” lifestyle catches up to her and we meet her as she’s slowly coming to after fainting. Her rescuer is guru Brandon, there to try to talk her into changing her life before she kills herself.

Madison is a quirky and compelling main character. Although wildly successful in her career, she's on a clear path to self-destruction. Her physical health and interpersonal relationships are rapidly disintegrating. After much resistance (and several hilariously snarky comments), Madison begins to see the value in clean, mindful living. In front of a full camera crew, she transforms every aspect of her life, from her exercise habits to her food choices to her perception of those around her. Madi
