Baby Blues and a Bully

I really liked this story. Heroine is in labor in the opening scene and that's where she tells the Father of her baby that it's his. I really didn't like the hero very much. He was cold and full of hate. And he didn't trust the heroine At all because she worked for the Father he hated. He was a vile man for sure. And his ex wife and his ex mistress were just as awful. This story played out between two books and I read the first one but I didn't like it as much as this one. Horrible family, two half brothers that hated each other because they grew up with hate and it was a little too much at times. I understood when Charity got postpartum depression. With an evil Mother in law, an untrusting hero, and a baby with colic, she was totally losing it. It made me so sad and I even cried. I hated the hero a lot during the book. The heroines family was totally trailer trash and caused issues also. It was just a whole lot of dysfunction and I would have ran away too. Too much going on.I wanted to yell enough too. The ending was sweet and I could probably found this up to four stars but the hero held me back. His sudden love declaration just didn't really seem right. I know he went to extraordinary lengths wished believe him but I just wish he had been nicer to her when she needed him most. Too little too late.

I was torn on this book. Usually when I read a Presents title I absolutely love it or absolutely hate it. But this story, about Javier and Scarlett, was very hard to categorize. I absolutely loved the pregnant heroine dealing with labor pains, childbirth, and depression. I loved the realism of the depression she endures afterwards, feeling like a failure, bursting into tears for no reason, feeling exhausted. And even with all that happening the sex scenes were almost unbearably hot every time. There was one outdoor scene in some ancient ruins that was almost like a beautiful poem!

What I didn't like was such a small thing, really, yet it really came close to spoiling the book. There was *so much* back story and back story and more back story, about every single person in the hero's life AND the heroine's life. The hero has a half-brother he hates, and they each have mothers they both hate, and they had a father they hated, and they spend more time talking about that than how the hero got his face eaten off by a jaguar! (Because IRL that happens all the time!)

And with the heroine it's even worse. All my friends on Goodreads know how much I love a heroine with a weak, helpless little brother. Or a fat, charming, shifty old uncle. Or any male relative who can flail, and flounder, and make shady deals that fall through and then sort of gently propel the heroine into the hero's bed!

Well, okay.

But stop with the brother.

Don't give sweet, pretty Scarlett a cheap, scheming, slutty sister. And a trashy mother. And a father who's an alcoholic and an abusive husband! It got so bad I started wondering how many evil relatives were really necessary to account for Scarlett's need to be perfect all the time. Hint: one is plenty.

So I came away from this book frustrated. I can see that Dani Collins is a major talent, and I will definitely read this author again. But I hope she can cut down on backstory and develop simpler plots with more sexual power and less family intrigue.

How about: He's rich and powerful. And he thinks she's no good. And now she's in his power!

See how simple that is? With three chords you can write "Louie Louie!"

Synopsis:
Scarlett Walker’s water breaks one week before her baby’s due to be born, and right when she has a meeting to attend. An important one, where the baby’s father would also be there. For someone who had always had to save herself, will she depend on him in this crucial moment of her life?

Javiero Rodriguez didn’t have an inkling about any baby, and he’s in for a rude shock when he sees Scarlett going into labour right in front of him. And that too with his mother present. But come what may, he will not abandon his soon-to-be-born son and the latter’s mother. He has his reservations of ever being able to be a good father and now that the situation calls for it, will he buck up to the responsibility?

Review:
Have you ever set aside a book by Dani Collins to read another one of Dani Collins’? What I mean is that have you had to set aside a book you were reading for another new release by the same author, of course, because you love their writing so much that you couldn’t wait to pick up their most recent work! Dani Collins is one of my most favourite author in the Mills and Boon world. And when one of her titles has a smouldering hero, a sassy heroine, and a baby bonus, it is an immediate and a must-read!

This one had the most dramatic beginning. Starting with “Her water broke!”, it has now become my favourite opening line in a romance. Javiero didn’t approve of Scarlett since she worked for his father. That he’s an excellent dancer made me catch my breath, even though we don’t see that in action. At the age of thirty-three, he was the master of global financial markets and one of the world’s most eligible bachelors. In spite of being scarred and with only one functioning eye, after a tussle with a jaguar, he’s a force to be reckoned with. I was waiting to know how he faced a jaguar attack, and the reason for it was nothing short of surprising.

It’s always admirable to read about a vulnerable hero, and this one here is still healing after a vicious attack. From the very first encounter, there’s such intensity between Scarlett and Javiero that it burned the pages. Yep, even in between the baby emergency. It was endearing to see Javiero feeling so helpless while having to be with Scarlett during her labour. Or I should say just before labour.

These feuding billionaire brothers, as the author named them at first, aren’t aware of their respective offspring. Something to do with a certain Nikolai Mylonas who was a nasty piece of work. Javiero and Val (from A Hidden Heir to Redeem Him) are two brothers who spit fire whenever faced with each other.

CEO Scarlett Walker holds her own with Javiero, even when he tries to railroad her into doing things his way. Back in Madrid, she is twitchy about revealing her past to him. And conditioned from a young age to manage alone, she is finding it difficult to accept his help with anything.

This was such an emotional story. There is so much angst between the brothers. Harlequin has come of age, addressing real issues with both protagonists learning to be each other’s support systems gradually. The confrontation in the end between the brothers is one I had been eagerly waiting to read. And an epilogue two years down the lane made for a beautiful conclusion.

P.S. For more details on how The Feuding Billionaire Brothers started their journey, see here.

So disappointed by these last few books from my favorite HP author.

This is Part 2 of a story about feuding brothers and the hatred and anger overrides everything else in this book. This brother is infinitesimally more likable, which basically means he’s only 99% selfish a**hat.

She worked for the father he hated. The H and the h finally had one day of sex. Then he got engaged to someone else while she was (secretly) pregnant. His engagement was broken due to an accident, not because of any regard for the h.

He is angry and hostile when he discovers her secret while she’s in labor at the opening of the book (of course he has to doubt it’s his) and at page 134, he is *still* thinking of the h as his enemy. Toward the very end of the book, she had to say I love you first and his hostile reply was unromantic. It’s patently unbelievable that this was some HEA love story when his hostility and maltreatment had been solid throughout. (Oh, he had sex with her again in the book... but he was manipulative and mistrustful even then.)

The h was suffering from Postpartum Depression, and considering who she was surrounded by, I’m surprised she wasn’t worse. It was an interesting element, and the least negative thing in this book.

I like romance in my romance novels and this was filled with anger, hostility, mistrust, more anger, bitterness, conflicts, secrets, a back story including abuse, horrible parents, an appalling sister... good grief, just so much darkness. (The Hero has to verbalize “I don’t hate you” to the heroine because his resentment is that visible and powerful... not good.)

The feuding brothers concept could have been interesting if it *ever* let up but the hatred fueling decades of strife took over everything for both books, even happy stuff that should’ve penetrated it.

If you want a lot of dark emotions, this brings them.

It’s hard for me to believe that the same author who’s created several heroes I found overwhelmingly worthy of that title created these books. It’s not that the men weren’t interesting, it’s that they lacked redeeming characteristics. Both of the heroines in this duet should have run screaming from these men. Their misery and distrust and subsequent emotional abuse of these heroines was not swoon worthy. Both brothers treated these women, mothers to their children, like crap. Nothing indicated they regretted their choices to be horrible men, either.

I would not re-read either part of this duet.

I’d read the first book in the series (Val and Kiara’s story), so was keen to read the second - Scarlett and Javiero’s. I have enjoyed both. The author managed to make each a stand-alone and yet the two together made for a bigger and more satisfying story.

The post natal depression element was quite well handled I thought - and the way the hero supported Scarlett against his vile mother was fabulous. I found Scarlett harder to empathise with. Her relationship with her awful family just didn’t ring true to me.

In both books, I found the weakest spot was trying to accept that neither Scarlett or Kiara really understood what a vile man Nikos was. In fact all other characters bar the 4 main characters in both books were incredibly one dimensional and universally awful.

I loved Javiero who despite his initial suspicion and hostility, really was a honey. The way he supported Scarlett during the birth was fabulous. Well written, great adult Dialogue and hot love scenes. A satisfying read losing two stars for the under developed subsidiary characters and the frequently annoying heroine.

I am struggling to come up with a fair assessment. There were parts of the story I liked and parts I did not.

One of the issues was that the book gave me whiplash. It just seemed to move constantly all over the place and didn't stay still long enough for there to be a resolution.

I also don't much care reading about a hero or heroine who is badly hurt or disfigured from an injury. It troubles me and affects my sleep.

And talk about a dysfunctional family...it bordered on ridiculous and let's not forget the one brother being sexually assaulted as a thirteen year old by one of his female teachers! It felt like there was a lot of piling on!

I am sorry but I can't recommend it.

After reading about these two awful brothers I felt dirty and in need of a bath!

Dani Collins’ Feuding Billionaire Brothers series is about two half-brothers who have to deal with a life-altering realization after their father passes away. Val Casale, A Hidden Heir to Redeem Him, is the oldest of Nikolai “Niko” Mylonas’ two sons. He is also the illegitimate son, a fact few people ever allowed him to forget. Javiero Rodriguez is Niko's son with his ex-wife Paloma Rodriguez. Both sons were afforded luxury, as long as they stayed under their father's thumb. And both sons were taught to hate each other.

Beauty and Her One-Night Baby is the second book in the Feuding Billionaire Brothers series. It takes place during the same time as A Hidden Heir to Redeem Him does. Needless to say, it is a standalone read. While I recommend reading both stories because they're both good, I HIGHLY recommend reading Beauty and Her One-Night Baby. Javiero is an amazing hero who owned my heart from the moment he appeared on the page. Even before he was attacked and mauled by a jaguar, Javiero didn't possess a classic beauty. What he did and does possess is a presence that captures your attention. He also has an incredible heart that allows him to move mountains for those he truly loves. The lady who is lucky to have the love of Javiero is Scarlett Walker, his father's assistant and his unexpected surprise newborn son’s mother.

I found that the story revolved more around Scarlett, her past and present, then Javiero. Since I read A Hidden Heir to Redeem Him I really wasn't that much of a fan of Scarlett. However, discovering what her past was and why she did things made my heart go out to her. Present wise, the story shows her dealing with a severe case of postpartum depression almost immediately after the birth of their son Locke.

Dani has once again written an incredible story. I was glued to the pages. Beauty and Her One-Night Baby will definitely go down as one of my favorite Dani Collins books.

A lot of melodrama but it wasn't as bad I thought it would be considering some of the most unrealistic over the top plot points like a H who was recovering from Jaguar attack and meeting h (for reading the will after his dad's death) for the first time after their one night stand when she is in labor!! He also gained and lost a fiancee in between his one night stand with h and her giving birth. Again this is the continuation to a book from last month and there is the drama between him and his half brother and their mothers that continues. Despite too many dramas which are all fantastical and constantly reminding you this is fiction, it was a fun read.

4 1/2 STARS!

Exciting from start to finish! With the second book in her Feuding Billionaire Brothers duet and the second book in the multi-author modern day fairy tale Once Upon a Temptation series, Dani Collins brings us Javiero and Scarlett's story in BEAUTY AND HER ONE-NIGHT BABY and it's deliciously sinful!

I already liked Scarlett from the first book in the duet when she was friends with Kiara, so seeing her story come to life was a pleasure. She chose not to tell Javiero she was pregnant, so it's now time for her to answer up to her sins.

I also felt like I already knew some of Javiero's story from the previous book too, but he seemed softer and more approachable than I was expecting. The jaguar attack and marring of his perfection seemed a distraction to me and I could have lived without it for sure, but his story overall was quite interesting.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a redeeming story. They both had things to answer for, but watching them fall into their love and family was fulfilling.

"Beauty and Her One-Night Baby (Once Upon a Temptation, Book 2)" by Dani Collins starts off with a baby and a surprised Baby Daddy. Javiero Rodriguez and Scarlett Walker have a night of passion which left Scarlett with a baby to remember their affair. Javiero grew up in a home that pitted him against his brother. When a Jaguar attacked him and left him with visible scars it didn't help his already fragile ego. Scarlett doesn't want to marry for convenience and worked hard to be an independent woman. They must work through their past for a future. The passion is there, but she won't settle for just passion. Scarlett is looking for love too.

What would be Scarlett Walkers worst nightmare knowing she is going to see Javiero Rodriquez again. Getting the strength to confront him that their one night had consequences. Not that how about having him come to you because your water broke and your in labor. Scarlett worked for Javiero father and no love there at all and he has a half brother who he also has no use for. Talk about stress, then to add to it seeing him after he had been mauled by a jaguar and lost his eye. This is truly a story that can be savored by all romance lovers I do not want to give away too much because there is so much to enjoy in this book anger, deceit, greed and as usual from Ms. Collins a HEA which takes quite a while to happen just to keep you glued to the pages. This is the second book about brothers but can be read alone. loved it.

Beauty and the One Night Baby by Dani Collins, book two in her Once Upon a Temptation series, is a tale of two strong, independent people, having a match of their wills. After, being attacked and mauled by a jaguar, Javiero no longer possessed his classic beauty, nor did it detract from his presence or power. He was furious to discover that Scarlett had failed to inform him of her pregnancy. Scarlett was Javiero’s father's personal assistant, and kept her pregnancy a secret as demanded by her employer. After working hard for her independence, to meet the needs of her family she refused to settle for less than love from Javiero. Unknown to Scarlett, Javiero will move mountains for those he truly loves, and for some reason, he loves her. There are so many layers in this story: encouraged competition between half-brothers and their mothers from an unloving father, unexpected babies, and Scarlett dealing with a severe case of postpartum depression almost immediately after the birth of their son Locke. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a redeeming story. They both had things to answer for, but watching them fall into their love and family was fulfilling.

BEAUTY AND HER ONE-NIGHT BABY by author Dani Collins is a June 2020 release by Harlequin Presents series.
Javiero Rodriguez had a passionate night with Scarlet Walker, and then both walked away. What he didn’t know was she was pregnant and he was about to become a dad.
Scarlet had her own reasons for not telling him. But now she was in labor and he was the one driving her to the hospital. But he wouldn’t let his child be brought up elsewhere so he came up with an idea. Would Scarlet agree to his terms?
BEAUTY AND HER ONE-NIGHT BABY is an emotional roller-coaster of a story. Author Dani Collins brought this enthralling story to the pages. The growth arc of the hero, Javiero, is well done. This story started with him being a controlling person. But by the end he had learned to change and grow into the relationship and appreciate Scarlet’s decisions.
Highly recommended for all readers of romance.

I really liked this romance between Javiero and scarlett and I like that it's kind of like beauty and the beast but with a baby in it and some parts of the story made me cry and I love that Javiero and scarlett both got a happy ending but I wasn't a fan of scarletts sister Ellie and some of her family like her mum and her dad who abuses scarletts mum and I didn't like Javiero mum either but overall it was a really good story and I liked the plot, the setting and I love the spicy scenes between Javiero and scarlett as well and I liked that it started from a one night stand and then turned into a family with there baby son Locke and I love little aurelia scarlett kiaras friend daughter in the book she was cute and sweet but overall it was a good book and I read this book in one sitting and I also liked the scarlett liked reading books

Scarlett Walker and Javiero Rodriguez has a one night fling. They both walk away. She finds out she’s pregnant. She doesn’t tell him he’s the father until she goes into labor. He is with her when she has the baby. He didn’t think he wanted children but he will not walk away from his child and mother. He doesn’t believe he could be a good father or husband. He makes her an offer. Will she except it? He knows they still have chemistry. Will they realize that she is struggling with depression after the birth? It’s a wonderful read. I love Dani Collins books.

Dani C!

2020 has been a year for unexpected reading! I got into historical and Harlequin Presents in this Wild year. So far Dani is my favorite HP author. There were so many moments that hit you straight in the feels! Scarlett and Javiero has some sexy moments! The sex scenes aren’t gratuitous, but they are 🔥 There was a scene with edging and another with dry humping that were amazing! I feel like trade romance is safe with the sex scenes and they grow very typical.

The first book in this duo was much better. I have yet to find another HP hero like Val. Enjoyable read overall.

Beauty and Her One-Night Baby

She worked for the one man he despised, his father. The family dynamics were not friendly. In fact his father set him against his half brother, and his wife against his mistress. So when his PA was sent to get him to see his father he ended up seducing her. When he finds out she is pregnant and at the same time in labor he won't let her out of his sight. He wants her and his child. He will not let his child grow up like he had to. Can these two make their marriage work?

I honestly was a bit confused at first because I didn't realize that this was the second book in the mini-series. It does make me want to read the first book....but I don't know.

This couple was well-paired in my mind, but instead of slowly resolving their emotional/trusting/sexual tension, they got further apart. Javiero obviously had hang-ups from his past that he was working through and Scarlett's background ended up revealing itself as emotional abusive. However, Javiero, after their London trip, really disappointed me - he basically pushed away Scarlett despite having gotten close and then let her try to woo him back. He didn't trust the woman having his child - he chose to believe the lies of her sister, ugh.

I did like them as a couple and I appreciated that Scarlett's post-partum depression wasn't just abruptly gotten rid of once she had Javiero's love. The fact that Collins made a point to address the fact that Scarlett wanted more children - despite the risk of another grueling round of post-partum depression and recovery was fantastic and I loved that Javiero was actually concerned and supportive.

Overall, I was a bit confused since I read this first, but it was a cute couple with some deeply emotional struggles to work through, which for me was a good story.

Spoiler alert, the heroine wasn't a virgin, but whatever. They had an afternoon together. The hero is her boss's son, he didn't have a good relationship with her father, even thought that she was his mistress. They got a kid, but then she had a depression, they discovered that they love each, pretty boring now that I think about it.

I didn't like it. I just did not enjoy the main story or either of their backstories.

This one wasn't as bad as the previous book, the hero did get engaged to another woman but at least didn't sleep with her. Plus he wanted to be with heroine (back when she got pregnant) and asked her to stay but she wouldn't. P.

It was a bit of a depressing read because the FC went through postpartum. The MC is ... I guess redeemed in the end because he didn't get his "pride" get in the way? Not the typical romantic confession you can find on Harlequin books but it's not a book I would like to read again.
