I enjoyed this book until about 40% through the book when the book took a turn I did not expect. It was one I, as a Christian, did not wish to read about in detail. I took a break for a few days and returned to the book but when the theme picked back up immediately, I knew it was time to abandon the book. Nothing about this appeared in the book's description, and I will not be reading previous or future installments. I received an advance electronic copy through NetGalley with the expectation of ...more
Super twisty!
Kitt is a librarian with sleuthing tendencies, Evie is her best friend and her past is on her face, DI Halloran is Kitt's interest, and DS Banks is in the frame. At first there was just a major theft, the murders came later. Extremely twisty plot and I don't want to do spoilers. Just start with the publisher's blurb and get drawn in! Enough background material is slipped in during the first twenty per cent that I was never lost. Loved it!

This is the second book in a series set in York, England featuring all the same characters but from different points of view. Book one: MURDER BY THE MINSTER featured Kitt and DI Mal Hallorans romance and mystery. This book centers on Kitts friend, Evie Bowes and Mals partner DS Charlotte Banks.

Banks has been suspended for assault after a burglary in a bookshop of some rare first editions. We know its all a bunch of BS from the very beginning and Evie jumps in and tries to figure out

Kitt and Evie become entangled in a case of rare book theft when someone sets up their police friend Banks. This is shaping up to be a marvellous little series of cosy mysteries. I love that they're set in York, one of my favourite cities, and the characters are becoming like treasured friends that you want to check in with and see what they're doing.

Another great Kitt Hartley mystery!

A truly entertaining and almost festive case, this time seen through the eyes of Kitt's best friend Evie. Made me want to bookshop crawl through York!

'A Body In The Bookshop' is the second book in the series featuring librarian and amateur sleuth Kitt Harley. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first book in the series and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this second book too, but more about that in a bit.
I couldn't help but take to the character of Kitt Harley from the first time I met her. She is a librarian and she is also an amateur sleuth. She has a habit of finding out more information than the police could. Kitt is kind and compassionate,

Another corker

Another corker from Helen Cox! I love the setting of the beautiful city of York and surrounding areas, and her characters fit so perfectly into that landscape. That Evie took the lead in this second novel makes me hopeful for a Ruby story very soon...

When I read the first book about Kitt Harteley, I thought this would be a series worth following - and I wasn't wrong!

When a local bookshop in York is burgled, that alone piques Kitt's interest; despite the warning from Inspector Halloran to stay out of it, Kitt and Evie want to get involved - even more so when they find out that suspicion of an assault has fallen on DS Charlotte Banks. With things going from bad to worse at breakneck speed, both women are soon immersed in the case.

This is a refreshing series with wonderful heroines. The character development over just the first 3 books is wonderfully paced and adds a wonderful depth to this cozy mystery series.

This is the second book in a series set in York, England . I love a English mystery so I was drawn to this series set in beautiful York at Christmas time . Book one was Murder By The Minister: I have not read the first in series. The series features Kitt and DI Mal Hallorans . This book centers on Kitts friend, Evie Bowes and Mals partner DS Charlotte Banks. Evie is a librarian and Charlotte is her close friend and a detective.

In this next in series DS Banks has been suspended from the force

I was kept guessing on the mystery and why it was done. It was quite the twist. I enjoy the characters and the setting of York.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am reviewing a copy of A Body In the Bookshop through Quercus Books and Netgalley:

When a burglary at a popular York bookshop results in the disappearance of some valuable first editions Kitt Harley, local librarian and wannabe amateur sleuth, is horrified. Having recently helped prove her best friend Evie Bowes innocent of murder she decides they need to team up to find the missing books.

Kitt is now dating the lead detective DI Mal Halloran and so has a sure fire way of getting accurate updates on the investigation so far and when one of the lead suspects is found murdered

I have to admit I was a bit confused by this book when I first started it. I didn't realize it was the second book in a series, and that was 100% on me. However, once I got some back story on the debut novel I went back and restarted this one. The story made more sense, but I felt it was a bit unbelievable in the sense that the police and the heroines in the story share information back and

Great book in a fun, cozy mystery series.
A bookstore has been robbed of some rare books, a man has been beaten, and a dear friend of Kitt's has been murdered. When evidence points to the inspector from the last book, Banks, Evie and Kitt know they must try to clear her name. As the plot thickens, evidence points to several different individuals, all with moties to commit the crimes, and the police department is once again left needing the assistance from Kitt, Grace, and Evie if they are to

A good twisty and turny murder mystery. There's burglary, adultery, murder, blackmail and a ponzi scheme to boot. It's well written and reasonably believable for a fictional murder mystery. You get a good sense of the people involved - so much so that I could picture one or two of them.

Loved it - read it in one sitting.

Its almost Christmas in York, but you wouldn't know it. DS Charlotte is suspended from the police force after accusations of assault. Kitt and Evie know the DS isn't guilty. Evie works on helping Charolette to get reinstated.
A body is discovered - will Kitt and Evie be able to solve the case?

Well-written and a great british cozy read.

Absolutely riveting and just as good if not better than the first in this series, all the original characters are in and we get to discover a bit more of their background and relationships

Cannot wait for number 3
Enjoyed this second book in the Kitt Hartley series even more than the first. Again I listened on Audible.

The action starts six weeks after the first novel, and begins by focusing on Kitts best friend Evie. One of the skills that Cox has brought from her romance novels is focusing on the backstories of the main characters - last time we saw Kitt find love, and this time its Evie. As someone who normally finds love scenes in detective novels quite embarrassing to read, in this case I really

When DS Charlotte Banks is suspended from the police on suspicion of assaulting a suspect in the burglary of a local bookshop, librarian Kitt Harley and her friend Evie Bowes refuse to believe she is guilty. They are determined to find out why she is being framed. With Charlotte's boss DI Malcolm Halloran unable to help, Evie decides to take matters into her own hands. Kitt takes little persuading to get involved. From the tightknit community of York's booksellers, to the most gossipy bus route ...more

This is book 2 in the Kitt Harley Yorkshire Mystery series. I would definitely recommend reading book 1, Murder by the Minister first. I didn't and I'm going to read book 1 and reread book 2. I think I'll probably update to 4 stars once I understand the backgrounds of Kitt and Evie. This book reminds me of the Sukey Reynolds series by Betty Rollins which is one of my favorites. Someone is framing
DS Charlotte Banks and Di Malcolm Holleoran to get them booted off the police force. All evidence

Kitt Hartley is most usually found tucked away in the library but occasionally her sleuthing skills are needed and never more so than in this second book in the series which sees Kitt, and her friend, Evie drawn, into a dark mystery which involves none other that DS Charlotte Banks, a police officer who we met in book number one in this cosy crime series. That the same characters are evident in this second book makes this a real coming together of old friends, and I especially enjoy how the ...more

Kitt Hartley and her friend Evie Bowes seem to have a magnet to become involved in murder cases; lucky for them now they have friends at the police station who will make her hobby easier and safer! This case will be more focused on Evies character, theres been a robbery and the main suspect is beaten, the problem is that the police suspects that it was a police officer who beat the suspect, Charlie Banks, an Evie and Kitt friend. This is the second book in the series which is set in York.
This book is well written and filled with interesting likeable characters.
The pace of this book was perfect and kept my interest throughout the whole book.
Cant wait to read the next book in the series.
Perfect for fans of police procedural books.

Another mystery thriller that was super easy to read! More adventures for Kitt and Evie with some twists thrown in for good measure. I love Banks and Halloran too so it was good to see them back too. I don't know how true to life parts of the storyline were but it added to the excitement so it's all good. I worked out which direction the story was taking before the end but it didn't spoil anything for me. Helen Cox writes well and I'm looking forward to reading more from her in the future!

A cosy crime story combining murder and romance about a trio of friends who turn amateur detectives. I picked it for the setting in York and this didnt disappoint. The visual details are pleasing. However, I found the characters a little twee and the tone somewhat uneven. This was a foray into new territory for me and I dont think I belonged, so dont let me put you off if you like your crime sweet and eccentric with just a touch of grit (and smut). ...more

A Body in the Bookshop***

A thrilling mystery involving a suspended Detective Sergeant, rare books and, of course, Kitt and Evie.

Evie, recuperating from injuries sustained in Book #1 of this series, is horrified to hear that Charley has been suspended. She and Kitt decide to investigate who is the real culprit and return Charley to active duty again.

There are several red herrings, lots of build up, clues galore and suspects real and suspected. A murder happens almost half way through the book and
