I can't take this Love because I know it'll end and I'm currently at the point where my body lives yet my soul travels further and further away; I can still feel your touch and I can still yearn for it, it can still haunt my mind even though that is all... Love, sex, passion - running away from it, grasping it in front of one inevitable Death. One cannot be sure what these thoughts are because they are filled with fear, melancholy, sadness and anger, love. Body is lying somewhere when mind is tr ...more

The voice is dying and it is approaching the void: the women's body, the silence of the page that fails to be blank.

volume contains both the french & the english & i'll probably be revisiting this occasionally as there were some pretty major discrepancies between the translated text & the text as quoted in the afterword (!). & also i think this has to come at the end. a collection of her last writings... extremely bare lines, each small section dated (though perhaps not always reliably in a literal sense?), '94-'96, in her early 80's, facing death, facing yann (still as (if) her lover, though ...more

Marguerite Donnadieu, better known as Marguerite Duras (pronounced [maʀgəʁit dyˈʁas] in French) (April 4, 1914 – March 3, 1996) was a French writer and film director.

She was born at Gia-Dinh, near Saigon, French Indochina (now Vietnam), after her parents responded to a campaign by the French government encouraging people to work in the colony.
