My heart be still! I’m so full of emotions right now after reading this incredible story. This story deserves more than five stars and I hope my review can do it justice. This is a story about two people who have had either tragedy or sadness in their lives, and how they come to know each other.

Vulnerability. Hiding in the shadows. Despair. Tragic. Sad. Consumed. These are the words I would use to describe Adam and the way that he is living. There is no doubt that he has experienced a tragic loss which has left him scarred. For him, the easiest thing to do to escape it all is to hide himself away and limit his social contact but this leaves him living in a perpetual circle of nightmares, loneliness and self-loathing.

I found A.K. MacBride by mistake a few years ago. Not a bad mistake but a good one. Usually that's how I find a lot of books and authors. But she is a welcomed mistake. I haven't read a book that I didn't like by her.
This book is no different. I found that her books never fail to entice me to let others know that they need to read her novels. She has a way of making you feel every single word on the page.

This is a new to me author. A.K. MacBride did what they set out to do with this story. This love story is told from the two main characters povs and alternates depending on where in the story you are. I absolutely love Maddie! She is a ray of sunshine that brightens up the world. Emotional, unimaginable, forgiving and inspiring all words I would use to describe Slow Burn. Adam has suffered unimaginable loss and has blamed himself for years. He finally tries to move on only to have a neighbor with a Fugly dog🤣

This was not the right book for me. Everything was over the top dramatic and I didn't think that the characters acted realistically. One of them in particular needed a therapist far more than he needed a love life. It was hard to root for the main character, as I didn't get a good idea of how she struggled. I liked that they had a mutual attraction, that they were intrigued with each other - that they calmed each other while heating up the sheets.
I seriously wanted to hurt Maddie's dad a few times. He was infuriating... well until everything clicked into place. Then, I understood.
I really admired Maddie's drive and decision to pursue her dream, even if it did cause ripples in her family. That passion and flair for her art definitely shone through the page ...more

Wow. This book created a whirlwind of emotions inside me. Heartbreak, awe, pain, frustration, it felt like I was going through mood swings from one chapter to the next.
These two have their broken parts, they know pain, they know darkness, and I guess that’s why they fit so well together.

From the start of the book to the end, this was an emotional rollercoaster. I felt everything as I was reading it. These characters were developed so well, I loved how fierce they fought for each other. Maddie and Adam were just perfect. The story arcs were beautifully laid out and this book was very easy to follow along with. A.K did an amazing job with this book and it will be one that I read again and again.

Slow Burn is right. Adam and Maddie were made for each other, they just didn't know it in the begining. In time Maddie broke down all of Adam's walls that he had erected due to circumstances beyond his control. With Maddie he finally founf the peace that he so needed. Maddie had her own issues which eventually she gets onto the road of working things out with her family. They had hurdles to get through and together they did so.

An enjoyable read. This is a new author for me, and this is the second book in this Breathing Hearts series. I am looking forward to read more from this author. The story flows well, the characters are likeable and have great chemistry. The story holds your attention. A great read.

I have read this authors other books and loved them. This though is my absolute favorite so far. These characters had me loving them more as the story went on and I just could not put down. My emotions were definitely all over the place and loving every minute of this story. Such a great book.
