I am clearly in the minority here, but I absolutely hated this book. Ordinarily, I’d have abandoned it after a chapter or two, but since I won it in a Giveaway, I felt honor-bound to finish it and review it.

Firstly, the author had an habit of sprinkling French words randomly through her writing. I suppose it is to let us know she speaks French. My own French is adequate so it didn’t impede my comprehension, it just annoyed the hell out of me because it was so unnecessary. I can’t do it in this f

This book is a delight! I loved every page of culinary adventure and whimsy. I felt like I was with the author in Paris, routing for her to find and restore the perfect apartment (and the perfect meal, and maybe the perfect guy too!). While it is primarily a memoir, it includes gorgeous photos and scrumptious recipes that highlight the story and make it a whole experience for the reader. It’s a don’t miss for lovers-of-all-things-French especially. C’est magnifique!

Part 1 — 5/5

In this part of her memoir the author presents her readers with a powerful story of her near-death experience and its subsequent effect on her outlook on life. I really enjoyed reading this section of the book, and particularly how she uses the aftermath of this absolutely harrowing experience to communicate her love for her two daughters and her heartfelt desire to live the rest of her life to the fullest. Throughout this entire section, similar to the rest of her book, she has comp

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of the book, and I breezed through it. Part-memoir, part-cookbook/food criticism, part-travel writing, and part-snapshot of Parisian life, Paris, Part Time has something for everyone. I mostly read the book for its memoir aspect and accounts of Paris but found myself drawn into the rest as well. Even if cuisine or home renovation is not your area of interest, as it isn’t really mine, I highly recommend sticking around for everything else the book ha ...more

How determination and passion can make a dream come true!

Lisa Baker Morgan, the author of this memoir is a talented and accomplished woman on several levels. She graduated with a degree in English Literature from the University of Southern California. She has a Juris Doctorate and a culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. She’s an author and has a travel and food blog. Recently divorced with two young daughters, at the age of 38, she took a holiday to Monaco which, by a cru

I think memoirs might just be one of my new favourite things! I’ve not read many before, but I’m certainly enjoying them when I get the chance to. This particular memoir was written so beautifully, and it contained such a delightful collection of the author’s life stories and experiences in a somewhat cruel, but forgiving world. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of detail the author goes into, as well as the things she shares with her readers. I would definitely recommend it for not only fans o ...more

When I first win this book,I had a difficult time getting it to load. I was as determined As the author to get to see Paris through a chef's eyes. After I read the first few pages I wondered if this was going to be a downer. Then, I saw the recipes! And I never looked back. I sat with the author through her ups and downs, her almost commuting from LA to CDG airport, her wonder at the differences of France and despite the trials of the world these days, have not deleted my bucket list item to som ...more

Paris, Part Time will appeal to readers interested in food, parenting, photography, travel, France, and specifically, the process of buying property in Paris!

Before reading this book, I had no clue about the process of buying property in Paris. I liked how Lisa Baker Morgan provides a realistic view of the process. For instance, things didn’t always go as planned. There were misunderstandings. There were delays. There was even a stubborn lamp that just wouldn’t work, even with fresh lightbulbs!

This memoir Is beautifully written with fabulous descriptives, love, humor and bits of the French language sprinkled throughout. It was a pleasure to read as the author takes us along in her adventure to make her dream come true after a major life event. It is an inspiration to see how she was able to tackle the many obstacles that were thrown at her, but still persist with joie de vivre!

Alice (BFF, Ava’s godmother) suggested Lisa Baker Morgan (38, narrator, divorced mother, former litigator), Ava (4, daughter/sister), & Julia (2, daughter/sister) move to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France.
Principality of Monaco. Sea Lounge restaurant/lounge. Stephen “Mr. Monaco” D’Angelo took a fancy to Lisa, Ava, & Julia.
12/25/2007, the girls spent it with their father.

It amazed me to read that the author considers her story to be relatable to other women. Um, yeah, like everyone has the financial resources to fly from LA to Paris three times between Christmas and Valentine's Day to renovate their newly-purchased Paris apartment with the proceeds from selling off their Hollywood manse. I lost count at the number of times she flew back and forth annually. The book read like she thinks she is the only woman in the world who loves Paris and knows it so well. Know ...more
