Full Review on The Candid Cover

It feels like I have been waiting forever for Eclipse the Flame, the sequel to Ignite the Shadows. This is such a perfect sci fi novel with hacking and infections, and is so believable since it is set in our world. I also loved the main character and her martial arts skills. Honestly, I enjoyed this book better than the first one because it is much more action packed!

Eclipse the Flame is the ultimate sci fi novel! In the book, the world's population is becoming infected with parasites that target the brain. The infected look just like everyone else, which is the scary thing. This book has everything from resistance groups to hacking, making it a read that sci fi lovers will definitely enjoy!

I loved how Eclipse the Flame takes place in our world. All the fights, all the infected, everything is so easy to picture. The way all the sci fi aspects are incorporated into Seattle was so well done. The city isn't destroyed, and Marci finds herself in clubs and coffee shops. I found these details made the book more believable since there were many features that are familiar to the reader. While reading, I could definitely imagine the events in Eclipse the Flame happening in real life.

Marci is such a fierce main character. I really enjoyed her martial arts skills as I don't see much of that in YA. Marci also has so much determination. Since no longer being a part of IgNiTe, she tries her best to prove herself and regain admittance. One of my favourite qualities about Marci is the fact that she is a pro hacker. I honestly don't know much about hacking, but her ways of getting secret information were admirable. It's kind of disappointing how I don't see many computer savvy women in books, so Marci is a really unique character, in my opinion.

Eclipse the Flame is the perfect book for sci fi fans with its hacking and real world setting. The main character is so strong and resolute. If you have yet to read the first book in the series, Ignite the Shadows, I would definitely recommend that you pick it up.

Following her failure to notify James about her twin brother’s reemergence into her life, Marci has been shunned by IgNiTe. She refuses to stay out of the fight however and one night she secretly follows Xave to a club. Before she can decipher IgNiTe’s motives for being in a club infested with EKlyptors, the group are ambushed and during the chaos a member of their own tragically loses their life.

Now with The Takeover imminent - and on a much larger scale than any of them had imagined - Marci and the team need to work together. A miscalculation on James’ part however, sees Marci alone and vulnerable and when she’s captured and tortured by Elliot, the shadows that Marci has held back all these years, finally threaten to spill over...

Eclipse the Flame is the second explosive instalment of the Ignite the Shadows series and what a thrilling, edge of your seat addition it was. Told from Marci’s perspective, the book picks up immediately after the events of the previous book which sees Marci desperately trying to prove herself to James after she was ousted from IgNiTe. While secretly following Xave on his mission, she has no idea how utterly her world is about to come crashing down.

I was shocked by the author’s decision to kill off a certain character and I genuinely welled up when it happened. Marci really goes through the wringer in this one with one shock after another. The author has an uncanny knack for getting her readers into the skin of her characters. I empathised with each and everyone of Marci’s thoughts and emotions. Her grief, her desperation to hold onto herself and her desire to redeem herself no matter the cost...

When the Takeover commences, it becomes clear that IgNiTe have underestimated the sheer scale of those infected. The only advantage that humanity has is the infighting Eklyptor factions that are preventing them from uniting and taking over completely. From the author’s subtle hints, I suspect that Luke and the Hailstone faction have a separate agenda up their sleeves which may tip the balance for humanity. Time will tell.

This is definitely a darker read than the first. The tension and sense of dread throughout was incredibly overwhelming at times. Marci rarely seemed to catch a break. The only light on the horizon was the surprising lifeline from an unexpected source and I’m looking forward to seeing how it unfolds. I love the way that Marci’s character has developed over the course of these two books. She’s strong, fierce and selfless and so very very brave. The cliffhanger at the end has ensured that this reader will be eagerly anticipating the conclusion on what has been a compelling series.

I highly recommend this series for fans of Sci-Fi/apocalyptic themes, evil parasites taking over the world, strong heroines and the last remnants of humanity attempting to take them down.

What can I say this book is just as good as the first. We have suspense, action, mystery, horror, heartache, and more. guaranteed to cry in different areas. All feelings come out and the descriptions of everything is great. You will not want to put this book down. You will feel apart of it. Marci feels alone since James has kicked her out. Xave and Marci finally tell each other what they feel for each other, but Xave leaves to do something for James. Marci follows, what will she find? Her brother Luke is in the same place and talking to someone from a different fraction. How many fractions are there? Are they all against Ignite? What has Luke done? After every thing that goes down and every thing goes to ****. What will Marci do now? Give in? Fight? Will James ever accept her back?
Can she be strong or will the shadow take her over? Will Elliot kill her or take her over? I received a free copy for my honest review.

Review posted on Tea in the Treetops in January 2017:

In the sequel to Ignite the Shadows, Marci is more or less on her own, having been banished from the secret headquarters of IgNiTe. She resolves to fight the Eklyptors however she can, but Marci doesn’t realise that the Takeover is imminent and and on a much larger scale than any of the IgNiTe team thought.

Eclipse the Flame kicks off immediately after the events at the end of book one, which meant it took me a few chapters to catch up with Marci, but once I had, the action raced on all the way through. This book had a darker and more frantic feeling to it. The world is being taken over by parasitic aliens, so you’d expect some all-or-nothing heroics, but Ingrid has really taken it up a notch with Marci’s desperation, her selfless risks and some very real consequences of dealing with a hostile threat. I loved the nail-biting suspense.

Marci is still learning to harness her powers and her development is frustrating, which is honestly how I would imagine trying to get telekinesis to work. She is such a strong character, although in this part of the story she certainly has her dark moments. She busts out of there with guns blazing, though.

The city of Seattle itself is almost an extra character in this story – I haven’t been to Seattle myself, but the locations seem to jump right off the page and give the story a realistic sense of place.

If you enjoy apocalyptic sci-fi with kick-arse female leads, try this series out. I’m really enjoying it, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!! If you haven't discovered this series yet, you simply must. Ignite the Shadows was a great read, but Eclipse the Flame will truly delve into your emotions, feeling everything that Marci must endure--the heartache, the pain, the torture, the doubt...all of this, plus those conniving Eklyptors that we get to know better, combine to make this a phenomenal, edge-of- your-seat, action-packed sequel you won't want to put down!

ONE ACTION PACKED JOURNEY!!!
Holy hellhounds! Ingrid brought it with this brilliantly composed approach, imparting one heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, block busting dynamo, wrapping this baby up seamlessly. A raging vortex full of formidable trials and challenging tribulations, along with shocking twists and wicked turns, putting our characters through their paces, testing them in ways they could have never anticipated. Anarchy, escapades and havoc run amuck, booting this gem into a tempest, bursting it into a frenzy with a mind-blowing culmination. A tumultuous whirlwind full of startling mishaps and surprising circumstances, thrusts those churning emotions into play front and center, blasting this baby to a whole new level. Exhilaration rocks this jewel, bringing it home with such intensity and precision, riding roughshod and imparting one block busting piece of perfection, thrusting this gem to life beautifully. The characters are authentic and realistic with qualities and traits that transform into amazing personalities. The scenes are so colorfully descriptive it paints an elaborate backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Outstanding job Ingrid, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.

I will admit that I picked up the first book based on the cover and the author alone- it was just so eye catching and I love that author, so I figured I would read impulse buy and jump in. I never expected such a detailed, dark and twisty world lived inside. I found the first book to be unlike anything I had read before, completely surprising me, and while it was not an easy read due to the overwhelming dread the book filled me with, I of course had to read the second book to see what would happen next.

Eclipse the Flame picks up about 2 weeks after the first book ends, basically stating with action and danger, which never lets up for the duration of the book. I was shocked in so many situations, completely kept on my toes at everything Marci faced, having no idea what she would face next. I struggled a little with Marci in the first book, not really liking her since she rubbed me the wrong way with her spastic choices and mood swings, but I feel like she got herself together and she was the anti-hero I (and mankind) needed.

This series is perfect for people who like dark surprising world, lots of danger and action where not everyone while survive, dystopian vibes, evil parasites trying to take over the world, sci-fi technology and strong characters.

Talk about empathy! Ingrid Seymour is such an extraordinary creative and realistic writer, she had me not just crying but I felt like my heart was being torn from my chest alongside a fireworks factory that has just exploded over anything else that I had left. Merci faces so many incredible challenges that any 16yr old should never even think about let alone face ! Yet I can’t even mention any of them because I do not want to spoil a single second for you. Just know book.2. Eclipse the Flame has non stop dramatic action and a never ending harrowing storyline for Merci. She will have moments of painless clarity and friendship but is that enough ? It takes a lot for me a book to find a storyline that drags me in and won’t let go, but this is one of those books. It has an elemental component that drags you in and won’t let you go. I hope you give it a go, I think it’s exceptional !! This has undoubtedly become one of my favourite Sci Fi / Doomsday / Urban fantasy series including many more genres Hands down no competition !! ...The hunger games has nothing on the Ignite the Shadows series.

I’m not usually interested in reading in this genre but hey, it’s Ingrid Seymour. I could not pass up one of her books. And with this book, Ms Seymour continues to prove her expertise in writing. My feelings were all over the place with this one. A little romance was cut way to short with a dramatic end. So sorrowful. Then we read about Marci’s mother. So tragic. Then a harrowing car chase so intense I could hardly catch my breath. Alas, the car chase was all for nought because Marci was captured and subsequently tortured for information. Very gruesome I almost puked when Marci did. The suspense in this book is so thick you’ll have your nails bitten off before it’s over, literally. But that is not the end. Oh no, Ms Seymour has more, much more. An action packed gun battle and Marci is in the middle of it. I’m wondering if this is going to be the actual end of the story. At the same time I’m wondering, while shaking my knee up and down uncontrollably, if Ms Seymour has another twisty twist before the actual end of this book. Well, there was a surprise. A big one. Could be a good one or a bad one depending on what happens in the next book. I’m def looking forward to reading it.

The worst nightmare just became reality.
Marci is living a horror story - losing everything she could within mere days. There is no certainty anymore. And what is worse, after being eclipsed following the torture at Elliot's, she is now deep within his faction stronghold, pretending to be someone she's not to survive and redeem herself from the haunting memories. Even one ally could be more she ever hoped for, but who would trust her after all?
Heart-wrenching story told at a break-neck speed, with lots of action, adventure, drama, and plenty of emotions - sadly, under the circumstances, most of them very negative. The suffering Marci goes through is absolute, and there is barely any ray of hope remaining. I can't imagine how would it be to suddenly find myself in her place. Thankfully she was raised to be a tough girl, with certain skills but also a temper, and now comes the challenge to use whatever wits and skills she is able to collect to find a new purpose and seek revenge for all she lost.

Book one was amazing and introduced Marci and the crazy life she has. But book 2 was even better. More darker then the first it took what was good and made an even better story that had me laughing and crying until the end. Marci and the other characters were amazing and I loved to hate the bad guys. The story drew me in and had me rooting for Marci to survive the hell her life has become. There was a lot of action and crazy. A few more things are explained more along with a bit of a mystery or two lingering as the book went. I loved trying to guess who was good and bad and going to drive Marci crazy next. I was kept guessing to the end to see what would happen next and at the end. Loved it!

Eclipse the flame is book 2 in the newly republished series by Ms. Seymour. This series is different from the ones I had already read from the author.
This story is a sci-fi one that touches some hard topics. Marci is in trouble - BIG trouble. She was banished from Ignite and now she has to fight with Eklyptors on her own, without any support.
This will bring some serious consequences that no one is ready for! Some of these will make your heart break for the characters!
I was not expecting this series to develop in that way. I enjoyed reading book two, and I hope that noook three will be released soon!

Marci is growing and getting to be the woman she should be and I'm warming up to her more and more. The story is amazing as expected but I won't put in any spoilers, however if you love a fast paced, action packed and emotionally charged story, this is it. This series certainly has my attention and my enthusiasm! You need to have a great visual imagination to truly get the impact of the eclyptors as they are described and that made them absolutely terrifying. I can't get enough so bring on the next one please!

What an exciting book! It keeps you on your toes and always has something going on. The author really has it all with this one. A young girl, Marci has unusual things going on in her body and head. Her father died and Marci knew she was a twin and her brother was taken after birth and never found. Marci learns a lot from someone that hacked her computer. This book is a real thriller and a have to read!

Deep, dark, twisted, exciting, exhilarating fun. There. That’s my short-hand review of Ingrid Seymour’s Eclipse The Flame (Ignite The Shadows Book 2). I loved book 1 (simply Ignite The Shadows), but I’m growing more and more enamored with Marci and addicted to her story with this second installment. This is really great stuff with a superbly crafted cast and top notch writing. Easy to highly recommend.

Oustanding novel for all fans of sci fi/ dystopian fiction. This one is even better than the first in the series which I also loved. The pace is fast and fluid with little respite. So many twists and turns in this one, so much intrigue. Impossible to put down, this is a real one click book, if I could give more than 5 stars I would.

Having read Ignite the Shadows, I was ready to dive right back in to Marci’s world. I really love when a sequel picks up immediately after the previous book, so it was an easy transition back in Marci’s surroundings and the specters that are trying to control her.

Eclipse the Flame was amazing! At first, it was slightly frustrating to follow because there were a lot of different elements going on all at once but the second I sorted through everything and took the time to piece the things together, it became easy to follow and realise what was going on.

My love for Xave is still strong with this one. Just with a heavy, heavy, heavy heart. I was so excited to see what would come from Marci and Xave, and how their relationship would end. I had such high hopes for them, and did not expect the outcome to be what actually happened. Their relationship was so pure and innocent, a perfect example of what relationships for teenagers really are.

I disliked Aydan’s character in Ignite the Shadows and it carried over to Eclipse the Flame. Then there was a shift and it took me a few chapters and a little discussion with Ingrid herself to realise why he’s all of a sudden . . . nice. If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought there was something up his sleeve. However, there was a scene in the park where Marci places a couple chocolate bars between the two of them – I felt like it was a truce of sorts. Marci and Aydan didn’t exactly see eye to eye from the beginning and I think Marci was surrendering.

In my opinion, I think there was a bigger overall theme to this book that applies to real life and it’s something that should be brought to our attention in lieu of recent events. Something that is plaguing our nation and will ultimately be the demise of our world if we don’t get our act together. That’s hate, greed, and control. We’re so hellbent on taking over, having everything, and hating everyone to realise what is happening around us. The Takeover might’ve been with supernatural/parasitic entities, but the end result was the same as what our world is going through: total destruction.

Ingrid Seymour knows how to weave together details and having the reader feel as if everything is happening right in front of them or, better yet, directly to them. The scenery, the pain and suffering, the attention to detail with each and every description of the Eklyptors. It’s all so real. Eclipse the Flame is another fast paced, action packed read that has you joining the fight and rooting for the IgNiTe team.
