Your life is a story, and it's yours to write, all the way through to the end. There are numerous decisions to be made regarding aging, illness, and end-of-life issues, but many people put off those decisions until it's too late. We may be purposeful in planning for our lives, but we often leave the last piece, the final chapter, undefined.
How to Live Forever seeks to lay a foundation for people to live well in the time they have, to leave their stories behind as their legacies, and to write their own best ending so that their final wishes can be honored. Author Kimberly Best encourages you to consider what you want the final chapter of your life to look and feel like, providing you with tools and prompts that can help you have difficult conversations regarding legal decisions, health care plans, relationships, and death and dying. If we recognize the finite nature of our days, we can live purposefully, plan ahead for the end of our life story, and die without regret, living fully to the end and finishing well.

Kim's book is not only well written and therefore easy to read, it's full of both actionable facts about estate planning, and also valuable insights into dealing with any personal issues one may have in facing or dealing with loved ones during end of life planning. Her thoughts provoke one with real life stories she's experienced as a trauma nurse and professional mediator which provide examples to not procrastinate about difficult end of life issues, but to face them head on so the last chapter of one's life is meaningful, not only to themselves, but their loved ones as well. I write this review as a recent widower of Alzheimer's disease. I wish this book had been available to read at the beginning of the downward journey that began 5 years ago as my deceased wife began to decline--this book would have been extremely helpful to me during that journey.
What You’ll Learn What specific items are needed to put legal affairs in order, and how to maintain accessibility. You may not think of things in this list, such as social media accounts and passwords, membership in groups and awards, car titles and registration, and hospital of choice. Dozens of questions and suggestions for discussions and decisions around health care wishes, end-of-life decisions, and telling your life story.
More of us need to think through the process that Kimberly lays out in such a thoughtful and talented way. Many may be familiar with the legal documents, but her stories really paint a picture of how to create a beautiful legacy that truly does help us live forever with those we love the most.
