I just loved this book. It was so well-written that it captured my mind and I was dragged along for the ride. Once I started reading I could not put it down until I read the last page.
This is a delightful second chance romance where the couple concerned have been best friends since school but, apart from one kiss as teens which was misinterpreted, the two have had a crush on each other but never dared act on their feelings. She is Kayleigh Baker, an army veteran who is now the fire chief. Throughout their childhood her Mum had been responsible for organising the town's Fourth of July fireworks display but now her Mum has died and Kayleigh is determined to keep the firework tr ...more

Fireworks on board! Jamie brought the fire and fiasco with this cute little number, laying on some heat and a little magic, working this baby to a head, wrapping it up sleek, shiny and tight. Crushing the boundaries and pushing the limits, displaying the strong suits and short straws, slamming this baby into overdrive, launching it into a frenzy with astonishing impacts, drawing our characters closer than they could have ever anticipated. OK this is probably the best fourth of July book you can find. First of all our heroine is the fire chief and she was an Army sergeant. Can we get a yay for finally having a military woman in a romance. Our hero is her former high school crush and now chief of police.

So we've got all the makings of a great small town romance. A little far fetched because what police chief or mayor or whatnot actually wants the July 4th fireworks display to be cancelled. Its just not realistic. Sure they always b

This story was absolutely NOT what I was expecting from this author. Granted, I haven’t read but 4 or 5 of her books. But every one of the previous stories I’ve read by her have drawn me in, kept me turning pages, had heat coming off the pages, and left me wishing the story never ended. I’m so sorry to say that wasn’t the case with this one.

In the beginning, I could feel a bit of the chemistry between Kayleigh and Liam. Unfortunately, instead of building as the story progressed, it fizzled. I th

Take two equally stubborn, hard-headed people. Mix in a bit of history of crushes and an unsuccessful kiss back in high school. Fold in some conflict over Independence Day fireworks. Sprinkle with lots of sexual tensions and small-town ‘romantic help’. And you’ll discover ‘A Spark of Romance‘.

Liam and Kayleigh are obviously interested in each other… for a very long time. Yet, each now has responsible careers that will put them on opposite sides of a holiday tradition

A Spark of Romance is a small town romance. Kayleigh Baker grew up in Mulberry and now serves as the town Fire Chief. She has a lifelong crush on the boy next door, police chief Liam MacAvoy. They are friends who banter back and forth - although there clearly is a romantic spark. This summer, though, there is an obstacle between them. Kayleigh wants to host the town's annual 4th of July fireworks show in honor of her late mother. Liam worries about the safety and cost. As they work through this ...more
I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book. However, I felt it took so long for the couple to get together, there wasn’t much left of the book. The story takes place in a small own in NY, Mulberry. The story is about 3 friends since kindergarten, Liam, Kayleigh and Evan. Liam is the police chief whose always had a crush on Kayleigh, the Fire chief. Evan is the head of their city and their boss. Kayleigh joined the military right after high scho ...more

Charming Friends-to-Lovers Romance

In this friends-to-lovers romance, the reader is privy to the fact that both the hero and heroine have more romantic feelings towards each other than they will own up to. They were best friends when they were growing up, even though there was a class difference between them—the hero being the rich boy from the swanky neighborhood and our heroine being the daughter of one of the town's mechanics. Right after high school, she enlisted in the military and so was de

I adored this story. This author can really write and she creates stories and characters I absolutely adore. This is a wonderful story and I absolutely loved it. But the couple don't even kiss until 90% of this book ends and I really wanted more romance. That said this was a lovely story just not really romance.

Sparks fly and it’s not just the fireworks

Kayleigh and Liam have been friends forever. They have also been crushing on each other for the longest time too, but afraid to act on it. And now they are at odds about the annual fireworks show. Kayleigh wants to hold the fireworks show in honor of her mother, who used to run the show before she passed away. This was a nice July 4th, holiday read and looks like it could possibly lead up to being a series thanks to Kayleighs single sisters. I would love to see how their stories turn out as well. I really enjoyed this read, but I have to admit, it was a tad bit slow at times. The arguing and bickering back and forth about the fireworks, got a bit tiresome.

Kayleigh and Liam have known one another since kindergarten, and had a crush on each other since their teenage years. Kayleigh has retired from the military and moved back to her home town to work as the Fire Chief. Liam is the Chief of Police in their town. So naturally they run into one another often at the scene of an emergency. Everyone in town can see the sparks still between them, but when will they finally get a clue and see it too? Fireworks are magical! I love fireworks and I agree with Kayleigh – 4th of July deserves fireworks. This is a sweet story about Kayleigh and Liam. They are both chiefs – she is for the fire department and he is for the police department. Well Liam is about to deliver some bad news to Kayleigh as the place that was supposed to deliver the fireworks was flooded out and then robbed. Now they only have half the money to make this work and Liam and along with Evan doesn’t want to spend the money due ...more

This is a good story but, it is dragged out a bit too much for me. Liam, the police chief and Kayleigh, the fire chief have been lifelong friends and they each harbor deeper feelings for each other. This whole story revolves around these secret feelings and the Fourth of July firework display. Liam doesn’t want the fireworks because of safety and logistics. Kayleigh wants them because she needs closure for missing her mother’s funeral as well as to honor her memory. It’s a tug-of-war between the ...more

Jamie K. Schmidt has written a 5-star book. Kayleigh has had a crush on Liam for a long time. She is the fire chief and he is the police chief and their friend Evan is the mayor of their small town. The emotions that they both go through are over the top. They fight over the smallest thing and they are both jealous when someone else gets near the other one. This book has a little betrayal, self-doubt, and mistrust.
Will Kayleigh realize that there is no way out over their feelings about Liam.

With no fireworks for my small town this year I could totally identify with Kayleigh Baker in A Spark of Romance by Jamie K. Schmidt. Being the fire chief she would have a handle on safety as well as enjoyment. Police Chief Liam MacAvoy’s attitude was simply the stick in the mud to me. Thank goodness for his long time crush asking for his help to turn him around.
