Cuddle Up, Cows! tells the story of some lively little cows who would rather stay out and play than settle down for bed. Kids can help Grandma Cow calm her young herd by coaxing them to cuddle up! Ideal for any toddler who likes to stall at bedtime, Cuddle Up, Cows! is the new companion board book to Go to Sleep, Sheep! and Put on Your PJs, Piggies! Your little ones will love the cows' antics, and you will appreciate the slowing pace as the book progresses to the cows drifting off to sleep. Settle in at the close of a busy day as you cuddle up with your kiddos and Cuddle Up, Cows!
Attracted more to the brightly colored title characters rather than the actual title plus it makes for a good book to end the night on since it is a bedtime story.
Cuddle Up, Cows! explores a group of calves as they wrap up the day and are called in by Gram Cow to prepare for bed. Old readers sharing this book will be able to relate as the calves try every excuse under the night sky to stay up, Gram's wise answers to them and the eventual drifting off to sleep of the cows.
The writing is very simple and easy while the plot is presented in rhyming paragraphs. The only part I didn't really like as it didn't fit to me was on the opposite page the reader gives a demand to the cows like "hurry up cows" or something similar to that. The reason why it rubs me the wrong way is that it seems a bit rude but also at the same time it breaks the flow of the story.
What really sells for this book are the illustrations which are brightly colored and charming. All the animals shown are wearing clothes to a degree with two of the cows as well as the sheep being really underdressed in comparison to the rest. What makes it interesting to me is that out of all the calves there is just one that has short bottoms on so I am wondering if he is a bull calf.
In the end it was an okay book but one that I wouldn't actively add to any bedtime routine of my own.
Very bright and colorful pages which makes it easier to understand for kids that aren't in school yet. Overall, the book was very catchy and easy to comprehend for all ages.
