For some reason a lot of this story reminded me of some of the early Star Trek TV shows when the crew would find themselves stranded on an unknown planet and there would be plants that cause havoc and sabotage from some of the crew and other assorted tragedies would befall them.
The beginning of the story I was intrigued and excited to charter unexplored territory with this intrepid crew. Unfortunately I quickly lost interest in the story. I was finding it hard to really bond with Elida. While I did empathize with him, there was just something missing for me to connect with him or any of the crew. I just felt like it was overacted for lack of a better word. Others may enjoy and connect with the characters for me unfortunately it was a miss.

This book is the prequel to the Elida series which promises to be an excellent series based on what I have read in this book. It is an exciting space opera with lots of action and a crew of characters that have me space exploring with them. I am looking forward to reading the series.
