Bug

Rate this book
I was a quiet, timid girl, who did her homework, helped do the chores at home, and hung out with my best friend. Nothing happened in my life I didn’t plan for.
Until Huxley Bailey-Vaughan took an interest in me. He decided I was going to be his girlfriend and I let him. I thought the son of the family who owned the town would be the boy of my dreams.
I was wrong.
Very, very wrong.
In the end, I ran and hid for nine years before he found me again. Now I’ll do anything to show him he can’t crush me like the bug he thinks I still am.
He may have had my love as a teenager, but as a woman who will not be swayed, he has my hatred.
There is no fine line between love and hate for us, he is not my happy ever after, we are not a second chance couple, and I am certainly not his Bug.
I will choose who has my heart, and it will not be him.

My God...this book is really a Mess.
Crazy mindf*ck.

Huxley Fucking Bailey-Vaughan
The hero......no.....villian of the story

He is OBSESSIVELY MENTALLY CRAZY for the heroine, Allison. He totally manipulates and controls her.

Though this book was stupid crazy mindfuckery still I kept reading till the end.
But it does get repetitive and long.

This book is so exactly and specifically what I’m into. I’m so glad I found it. 5 star read for me. There were some criticisms I had, but nothing that was a major issue for me.

I LOVE stories about a bad man who is psychotically obsessed with his innocent heroine, yet his feelings are unrequited. This is exactly that.

I really liked Huxley’s character. I love it when the author stays true to the characters they create and don’t have unrealistic character arcs. He never changes. Right till the very end. He’s a real piece of work. *SPOILER* The scene where he nearly drives them over a cliff always stands out to me. He’s so manipulative when she tries to break up with him and he acts like he’s accepting it and then forces her to get in his car to go collect her things from his house, when really he has purposely trapped her in the car and is going to drive them off a cliff if she doesn’t agree to never leave him. It was so intense. I loved it.

I also really liked Allison as well. For me she was the perfect combination of innocent and infatuated, yet not being a doormat or stupid. She tried to leave him many times, realizing he was toxic and that she didn’t love him, but he went to extremes to prevent it and she would give up and stay with him. It didn't make her look weak, it just showed what an awful situation she was in.

I do wish Ryder’s character and his relationship with Allison had been a bit more developed than it was, but I liked his character and his role in the story regardless.

I’m also very curious if there will be a spin-off for her son. That’s definitely one interesting set-up for his character.

Man, this was seriously so good for me. If anyone has any recommendations on other stories like this one, please send them my way. I fully intend on reading more by Ellie.

This was truly engaging. It drew me in from the start and kept me hooked until Huxley's demise—quite a ride. Despite my hate for him, I must admit Huxley was an interesting character . As someone who loves villainous heroes and in this case villain, I devoured this book. Huxley was written very well. This book is about an abusive relationship but huxley was not the conventional physically abusive villain but a villain who relied more on mental manipulation. His ability to convince the entire town that the Allison was mad gave me chills and the scene at the cliff where he threatened to drive the car down the cliff if she breaks up, the chills I got reading that. 😬

Normally, I hate books with two timelines but it was executed rather well here. The shifts made me empathize more with Allison and her struggles. I absolutely loved her, she is one of the strongest heroine I’ve read. The author did a good job with her transformation from a naive girl to a strong woman

I also thought Huxley was killed off way too soon. Honestly, with his personality, I was scared he’d just return from the dead 💀.

As much as I enjoyed the book, I can’t rate this higher, why? Well it’s because of Ryder, his POV was boring and tedious. I would have preferred reading Allison’s perspective about how she dealt with the aftermath of Huxley’s death and her strained relationship with her son. I wish Allison was paired with someone else because I didn’t really like Ryder, he had so much opportunity but all he did was stand back and watch. That’s not really my cup of tea, I found his love for Allison came out of nowhere and didn’t make any sense.

But overall I really liked this.

This book though.
Fancy yourself a goodread? Well, look no further. THIS. IS. IT.

”They class power as love. Women are possessions, and as such, we are theirs to please and to look pretty on their arms while being paraded around at parties. Sons watch their father’s actions and being to mimic them, becoming their father’s son.”

The book description doesn’t give much to go on and Amazon reviews only had one, so I went into this book completely fucking blind. ANNND I am so glad I did.

Allison aka Bug was the lone wolf girl, the one who sat solo and had 1 biffie in High School. She had her whole life mapped out, make good grades, go to college, fall in love, get married (you get my drift, shit that never happens). Until one day her entire world changes.

She meets Huxley. The all-star QB, the one whose parents have the mansion stationed on a long-paved road with a black gilded fence. The only thing she didn’t plan for was the real monster that lay dormant in Huxley.

Their relationship is tumultuous, he wants a possession and all she craves is his love. Little by little he strips the girl she used to be and leaves nothing but a shell. The only thing that keeps her going is the whispered words from Huxley’s best friend, ”Fight him, don’t ever stop fighting him.”

After 3 unsuccessful attempts at leaving Huxley behind she finally escapes Bailey Cove and after 9 years of being gone, he finds her and brings her back. Only this time, she isn’t the weak girl he once broke.

This book was sooo good on soo many levels. The heart break was real, the love was real, and the fight was suspenseful.

Now if the author could follow this book up with one about Dash, that would be lovely.

Toxic love!!

This book was so good. Actually every book I've read by Ellie has been amazing. She's definitely a one-click author for myself......I get so excited whenever I see a cover reveal or new LIVE release from her I just gotta HAVE it for myself. Her MC series is one of my favorites, so get them if you like MC books. Ok I digress..... On with my review!!
Loved Allison's character. She put up and endured so much from Huxley it was unreal and mind game boggling. Huxley is such a twisted, spoiled POS in my mind. So controlling and vindictive person. And lots of things aren't what they seem so pay attention.
Ryder's character is swoon worthy for sure. Not all is at seems with the friends they all keep so again pay attention. Kind of like Alice in Wonderland "We're all mad here!" And the crux and reason would be " Huxley".
Just know the book was done brilliantly And I don't want to give to much away..... And know I highly recommend this author's books.
Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis

NOT SAFE. SO MANY TRIGGERS (from what little I read).

This book is very heavy. The heroine is abused (not by the hero) for most of the book.

I read the prologue and half of the first chapter. After that, I just skimmed because I could not handle a book with this heavy of a subject.

***SPOILERS***

She leaves the abuser in the prologue, then you start reading the first chapter. Even though that chapter is sad, I was happy because she wasn't with the abuser. Then the abuser finds her and takes her and her son.

I felt so sorry for this woman. Her young son was pretty much turned against her and he withdrew from her plus being abused by a man you thought you got away from. She never really restores the relationship she had with her son in the end. The book ends very quickly. I feel like many things needed to be addressed like her son.

I think the author wants to write a book about him so maybe that is why she did not close out that plot line.

Holy shit!!!! This book was crazy…literally. It made your emotions go all over the place from frustrated, furious, exhausted and heartbreak for the characters that were just wrecked by one horrible person. Even though it ends in a HEA the author doesn’t really convince me. The most disturbing part was the broken bond between mother/child—-I just couldn’t get past this part of the book the entire time—I love the dark shit, but I can’t give the five stars because the mom in me is heartbroken over this incomplete ending in their relationship…ugh please don’t end up being like HIM if another book it made 🤣 the change in personality is massive.

Another new author to me, this was an interesting read.

in a manipulative and abusive relationship from a young age Ally manages to escape and start a new life for herself but finds herself back and in an even worse position. This was a story with some dark moments, and I wasn't sure if it was going to work itself out. Some loose threads were left for me, I still have some unanswered questions.

This is a great story of love, hate, betrayal ,deceit and heartbreak. There were one or two twists which I didn’t see coming . I really felt for Bug and really wanted her to be safe and happy. Great read!!

Had the setup to be great but failed

When I read this blurb, I thought this book was going to be amazing. I also thought it might be an enemies to lovers kind of story which I am all for. Or a bully falling in love with his victim. Again I was wrong. This was totally different. I don’t know what anyone is on about in their reviews concerning shock factor and twists. There weren’t any. You could see everything coming from a mile off because it was so predictable. The main character Allison clearly doesn’t have two brain cells to rub together. Staying in a five year relationship with someone who mentally and emotionally abused her and controlled her. And then she goes back to him nine years later? She should have suffocated him in his sleep or stabbed him through the eye because that’s what I would have done. No one would have missed him. If this is meant to be a story about fighting domestic violence and coming out stronger? Then the author went about it all wrong. This is not the story we should be showing to victims of domestic abuse. Because all it tells them to do is put up with it, go back to the man until
One day you might be able to run away. But then again he could still find you unless he’s dead. Then you’ll know peace. And safety.

FMC - Allison
MMC - Huxley

There is sooo much going on in this book. Allison and Huxley met in school when they were young. Huxley has always been deranged and his family owned the town and everything in it. Hux has controlled manipulates and coerces ally into various things. Eventually she runs away from him gets married. When she runs she’s prego with Huss kid and he doesn’t know. She’s gone for 9 years before he finds her again. He forces her to come back. He manipulates her relationship with their son till the son hates his mom. He is abusive in every way that you can imagine. While she’s away hux fucks her bestie and she ends up prego with hugs other kid. Hux kills the friend and her other lover before Hux finds ally and brings her home.

Hux forces ally to marry him and on the day of their marriage Hux is shot dead leaving her and the kids with millions. Ally ends up with Huxs friend who has loved ally and secretly tried to protect her majority of their lives.

This book is wicked. I’m not sure I would read it again.

I Cannot Even! 😮‍💨

This book is ridiculously good. It took me a min to type out this review, because it’s been awhile since a book has left me chilled to the bone.

Huxley’s character is beyond words I can even describe… well that’s a lie, he was evil, sadistic, manipulative, gas lighter, CRAZY, psycho, NARCISSIST, just all around not right in the head. He literally gave me the chills. I couldn’t believe someone could truly act that way. And to think he may have passed his traits down to his first born son gave me goosebumps! Author are you going to write another story focusing on Tobias?

The push and pull of emotions between Huxley and Alison, and all the torment he put her through for such a long time, had my blood pressure going crazy. I’ve never read a book quite like this and it’s truly messing with me. Just go and read it, you’ll see exactly what I mean. It’s a definite must read that’s for sure! 🥺♥️

I read this one a while ago and was pleasantly surprised how quickly I finished it seeing as it’s very common for me to drop a book if the characters mildly annoy me or if the book’s not interested me at all. I quite liked this book overall but what I couldn’t understand was the protagonist’s son’s rapid behaviour change. I don’t understand how he went against his own mother over a few words from a near stranger. It didn’t take away from the quality of the book though, so if you’re usually quick to dnf then I recommend you give it a go x

This was the first time I had come across this author and I have to say I was drawn in by the title and cover without reading the blurb - isn't it stunning?!

It was a bit of a weird one for me as I found myself hooked from the beginning, but the more it went on the less it gripped me.

After many unsuccessful attempts Allison finally managed to escape Bailey Cove and the clutches of her then boyfriend and abuser, Huxley Bailey-Vaughn. Until he showed up at her husbands graveside nine years later and took her "home".

I have to say I found it a bit predictable with regards to what happened throughout. But, I did enjoy the flashbacks to discover a bit more of Ally and Huxley's past and the events leading up to the present.

I found it difficult to connect with any of the characters other than Ryder (Huxley's best friend) who wasn't quite what he seemed, and Ally's son was just a brat 🤷‍♀️

It ended rather abruptly too, but I'd like to read more on some of the secondary characters.

3.5☆

Bug

I went into this book not knowing the author or what to expect. I'm glad I picked this book up solely based on the cover (because it's beautiful!) because I found a twisting storyline that was really enjoyable!
Allison is dating Huxley, then running from Huxley. Their relationship is a complete mindf... You get it. Then there's Ryder. Silently standing off to the side, biding his time. I don't want to give anything away, but do yourself a favor and watch Ally turn into the butterfly she never knew she was!

Love wins out.

I'm glad I invested the hours needed to read this book, I loved every second of it. Well, I say loved, I hated one character, Huxley, he was a nasty piece of work. Allison character is one you route for, what she endured at the hands of Huxley is heartbreaking. There has to be a knight in shining armour, right?. Just keep an eye out for Ryder that is all I'm saying. I loved that we got backstory this enhanced the storyline so well. I would love to know how the boys grow up, if they take any traits from their father. That is a book I would love to read.

Too real

I would say I liked it. It didn't have the fairytale feeling I like in my dark romances. The end was choppy and with her not realizing that he was always in the background trying to help. She pissed me off . Plus everyone seem to think she was gorgeous but we never got a description. I don't know. I felt kinda sorry for Huxley never got to understand why he turned out this way. It was hard to finish.

Squirm

This book had me squirming a bit at the blatant disregard everyone seemed to have for Ally and the abuse she endured so openly. In the end I didn’t really like her all that much because she came across as an ungrateful drunk, especially to Ryder. This book will definitely make you feel, but it is not a romance. It was still well written and it will definitely make you feel.

1st person multi pov

It was a very long story but it was worth it. There were times that I feel like I want it to end coz Hux is always the same being an asshole and then he’s good to the heroine. It kinda pissed me off.
It’s a good story. Though the ending was kind of freaky. I was imagining Hux in Tobias’ body. Lol
