The Dragon Mage Wars #6

Lusam: The Dragon Mage Wars Book Six

In the final book of the series:
The Dark God, Aamon continues to grow in strength while Lusam and his party attempt to forge new alliances with the dragons of Podrana. New Netherworld horrors are created and unleashed by Aamon while he makes his final preparations for escape. Humanity’s only hope of finally sealing The Rift and preventing the world’s destruction now lies in Lusam’s ability to find a dragon willing to bond with him, so that he, too, can become a fully-fledged Guardian. But they soon discover that the dragon’s homeland of Eindryl has changed a great deal since Arlo and Ryuu were last there. New, unforeseen hurdles stand in their way. But as one path seems lost to them, another might yet lead them to victory. Only time will tell.
But time is no longer on their side …

I kinda want to give this a 2.5 solely based on Neala. The relationship she has with Lusam is grossly one-sided. Without adding a bunch of spoilers I find her selfish throughout the series but this one takes the cake. When something tragic happens to Lusam what is she upset about... not getting married. Really?!?!

Any of the other women would have been better for Lusam than her, or if he just stayed single the entire time. I find that she detracts from the story which in itself is a very solid story. This book is heavily focused on magic which she has none and throws a fit if she is left behind (but hates flying), demands to always be in the thick of it when she cannot perfect herself causing the others in the group to constantly split their focus, and doesn't seem to honestly respect Lusam until he can do something for her.

The series in itself is strong but I would have preferred Neala to have been his actual little sister or half-sister or to be a platonic friend than the romantic interest.

Other than her, sometimes a little too much detail when it comes to the battles (the first one with Zedd didn't need that many chapters), and an overuse of the word roared (I'm sure dragons can do more than that) I did enjoy this story.

The Zedd plot line ended delightfully, but what happens to the dragons?

I'm afraid that the rating I submitted is for the whole series. That saying, the last book was the best of the series. That is until the last maybe 3 chapters. Then it feels like the author just threw together a quick closure. I have to agree with a prior review that Neala is the weak link in the whole story line. There are also some inconsistencies that I found hard to absorb. The whole series appears to have happened over a relatively short period of time. Characters start out at an age range between 7 to 10 years old but develop very quickly late teen ( supposedly mature) passionate love. Another flaw is the discovery of a character so near death that they might not make it. In the very next moment the same character is primping, being sassy with their hands on their hips and having a lover's quarrel. The dragons characters were the best part of the whole series. Several issues were left unresolved. Let's hope that if another book follows, that the main characters will have developed some maturity and Neal as character would improve substantially.

I gave all the other books 5 stars and I would have loved to rate this as highly, but I just can’t.

I feel the authors strength is the story (which I LOVE and is 5/5) but the interactions between characters is an honest mess and very unsophisticated.
I often had this mental imagine every time a character laughed of Peppa pig falling over onto her back - character responses didn’t match what was said/happening etc.

My 2 big complaints are that Neala nearly made me put down the book and that the story isn’t finished??
The whole dragon story has not been concluded or even given an open ending. It simply remains completely unresolved. As does the relationship between gods.
Zedds storyline, while I can cope if I have too, I also feel is a horrid ending for a story that took so much time developing. It too is very inconclusive.

Overall I’m greatly disappointed bu the ending but I would recommend this series to people. The story itself is fantastic.

I read all Six books in a row so this review will encompass the series as a whole.

So Dean Cadman stated in his intro in the first book that he wanted to make a book that was enjoyable for all audiences and he has succeeded in his effort I believe. As a big fan of epic fantasy and of the more 'heavy stuff' I feel like I'm at the end of his intended spectrum of readers. Regardless, I enjoyed those books allot.

It shows it's also intended for the younger or lighter audiences. Allot of stuff is repeated and some actions or 'magical rules' where not deeply explained. Some stuff is resolved by no more then a mere 'thought' and left at that. The system is designed to have knowledge gained by the snap of a finger and not through (much) effort. Often Lusam is a bit to fast in finding a solution no mater how dire the situation that it's sometimes hard to feel a sense of danger in the story except for the few times where he keeps making the same mistakes to have him fail once in a while.
The 'bad guys' are quite boring as well, they all (except for one) seem to be mandatory 'purely' evil and prone to outbreaks of rage and curses

So those things are some negatives but were overal not really that annoying. The good things make up for it. For instance I though the romance was really well done as were the 'good' characters in the story. They're quite well written and there's plenty of development.

The first 3 books were great, but the 4th book was a bit boring (to much of the same but easier) in my opinion except for a small part in the middle. The 2 last books took on a fresh take on the story making it great again. Good ending as well. 4/5 for the series as a whole.

Sad to see the end of the story.

This was a fulfilling ending. All six books where a joy to read. Getting to know the characters in these books made the time reading well worth it. Yes I hope that Mr. Cadman will revisit Lusam at a later date hopefully in the not to distant future as there still where a few issues that needed to be resolved.

Fantastically narrated!!!! I loved this series, and was disappointed to have it end. you need to get past the first two books as you become very invested in the characters books 3-6. There is no sex or anything to describe the act, but has romance and an abundance of action with great characters. hope to get book seven from this author soon!! Highly recommend for teens!!

A little too much out the story,

Still a good read. The story helps provide moral values. Good read for many young readers.the plot may require another book.

Very enjoyable story

What started as a simple story turned itself into an epic fantasy. It was a very entertaining read. I look forward to seeing where Mr. Cadman takes us next.

Final book

Great ride. Story was great up to the ending, when it left me feeling let down. Not a fan of inconclusive endings.

Book six is NOT THE LAST BOOK!! This is a great series but i was very disappointed at the end of book six to when the series did not come to a conclusion and found out I will have to wait for the end! I think it is deceitful to tell people the series is six books and then only find out after many hours of reading that the series does not conclude after the author has made no mention there are more books too wait on!

I liked reading about Lusam, but half the book was the POV from the "bad guys". I didn't care to read about them. At least not so much. Plus, I thought Neala wasn't worthy of Lusam. She was kinda selfish. Take away 40% of the story and I might have enjoyed it.

A great series, worthy of my time spent reading it.

With the exception of a few spelling and minor grammatical errors, and the confusion over the hidden realm’s time differential, this series was thoroughly enjoyable. I applaud the author for continuing the stories of the characters past the initially intended three books. I hope to be able to revisit this world again; hopefully to see the dragon issues resolved and the world of the gods expanded upon maybe (I am intentionally being vague as to not spoil it for anyone).

Magnificent conclusion to a tremendous story!

I’ve been reading about Lusam for quite a while hungrily waiting for each book to become available. I have to say I’m not disappointed. Book 6 is by far one of the best in this series. I am disappointed because it is the last. I will keep a lookout for future stories of Lusam and sincerely hope there will be in the future.

It was a long wait...

But well worth it. I'm hoping we haven't seen the last of Luslam or family. I mean we still need to deal with Zed and that weak, no honor dragon. So I hope to see Lusam and hang again soon.

Great Story absolutely solid.

I have read the entire series and can say without a doubt it probably in my top 20 books or series ever read. Dean Cadman has a great mind and skill as a writer. I hop his next books are even better.
