I've followed Teresa Funke's blog for a long time, so found this collection of essay-like blog posts delightful. Based on the author's personal experiences and practiced observations, the entries show us that we are all creative in different ways, that every artist must find his own path to personal accomplishment and satisfaction, and that the acceptance and celebration of art, whether created by ourselves or others, enriches our lives in ways we might not expect.

This book is such gorgeous rumination and truism for those who see the divine essence of creating. I love how it weaves in the capacity and character of how and why we create and the convergence of our ideas and the power behind them when our dreams become a reality. Creativity is Brilliant and the source of genius can truly be brought to life when we are the architects and our soul is free to feed the need to create. It's all "right here at our fingertips." I love this concept, this message, th ...more

"Bursts of Brilliance" is an excellent read for anyone trying to pursue their creativity. So many of the experience and feelings that Teresa Funke talks about in her book could have been taken from my own life. It's great to feel validated and to be given tools to get through those moments when you're frustrated or wonder if you are wasting your time pursuing your art. If you need a virtual pat on the back and new ways to view living a creative life, I recommend "Bursts of Brilliance."

I've been reading this book a couple pages at a time over several months. It's written in short bursts, analogous to its title - a collection of brief, stand-alone essays covering a wide range of experiences, emotions and thoughts. I highlighted quite a few little nuggets of wisdom that resonated.

Whenever I read a book to review that has overwhelmingly terrific information, I resort to using quotes, because trying to summarize it never feels right to me. Since I have reviewed many of Teresa’s children’s book (Go to my SEARCH box on the Home Page and type in the author’s name), kept in touch by email and almost met her this summer in Colorado, I feel a kinship with another writer who shares many of the same beliefs about creativity, making the review even more challenging. Which quotes do ...more

This book helps remind readers of the creative soul within and allowing yourself time to honor and grow that creative soul. I absolutely love the way that Teresa Funke uses bursts of short story reminders and encouragement throughout "Bursts of Brilliance." Not only is it a clever given the theme of the book, it also honors the message she is sharing. It gives readers the chance to engage with the book while also making it possible to pursue their passions, come back, read a a story or two, and ...more

“Time is not the master, it is the obedient servant. It will stretch and weave and rearrange itself to serve you.” There are so many quotes, like this one, in Bursts of Brilliance that’ll speak directly to your soul and read the most vulnerable places in your mind. The author has done a brilliant job at providing a relatable guide to listening to, noticing, and acting on our intuition - that part of us that craves creativity and freedom from time and expectation. I LOVED the short chapters that ...more

Absolutely a favorite inspiring book! This will stay on my bookshelf forever. It reminds us how important it is to create and to enjoy creativity. I enjoy her perspective on how we all are uniquely creative and that our art and ideas matter. She reminds you to silence your inner critic, have the courage to create, to carve out time for your passion, to follow your passion, to trust your intuition, and to tap into your Higher Self. Similar to the books The Book of Doing and Being by Barnet Bain a ...more

This has been such a welcome reminder about why it's important to indulge creative impulses! Rather than make the process seem daunting and intimidating, Funke focuses on little ways and simple truths to keep the juices flowing and ease me back into the habit of writing after a long hiatus. Quick chapters made the process of reading even easier too, letting me fly through multiple chapters at a time and gather these tips and tricks, squeezing a few more meaningful moments into a hectic day.

Teresa Funke inspires you to look at all the things you do as creative. You don't have to be "born with talent" to have talent. Her personal stories are real and makes you feel like she's an encouraging friend who's on your side.
