This book had some original things that I was really fond of, but it also had some things that I have seen too often in Historical Romance. So all in all, it was a good book but not a great book.

Phoebe: The female lead was super interesting and original because she was truly independent and cared nothing for society norms. She was a self-proclaimed spinster, had left a guy at the altar and lived by herself and by her own mean

Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley is a well-known rake in London. He has no desire to marry or have a relationship (have to say wasn't very keen on him frequenting brothels as much as he seemed to). Marcus is a man of honour, so when he realises his estranged cousin is swindling members o the Ton he sets about stopping him.

Phoebe Lennox is a member of the Spitfire Society, a woman happy to have her independence, thanks to an inheritance from her aunt. She can live as she wishes to, much to the

The spinster and the rake

Phoebe Lennox deserted her betrothed at the altar and set the society gossips and London's ton on its collective ear. Gossips had a hey day and Phoebe thanked her lucky stars that she'd had enough gumption to not take that final step that would've left her shackled to a husband who delighted in inflicting pain. Society was even more shocked when she set up house by herself.
Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley, draws a different sort of attention. A rake and a womanizer, a

Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley, is happy – very happy – with his life. He is a totally unrepentant rake. He has a few good friends and as many bedmates as he wants – and he doesn’t spend more than a night with any of them. He doesn’t keep a mistress because – well – even that is a commitment of sorts. Then, he confronts his only relative, a cousin who has been defrauding people, in the middle of Hyde Park where there

Phoebe had done exactly that, and she wanted to do it again. She wanted more of tonight. More kissing. More Marcus. Smiling to herself as the fireworks concluded , she let her joy fly free. She’d never felt more alive.

For a historical romance, the plot was good but the author focused too much on the romance and I would have enjoyed if it wasn't more focused on the romance. It was too cheesy for me here. I was bored most of the part.

Phoebe is a remarkable character. Big applause to the author for

A Duke is Never Enough features a fantastic romance between a woman determined to forge her own path and a notorious rake caught up in a family scandal.

After refusing to marry an unfaithful man, Phoebe Lennox flees London leaving the philanderer at the altar. When she returns, it’s as an heiress who refuses to bow to society’s demands. Phoebe has no interest in any relationship that would hinder her freedom, but when she meets Marcus Raleigh, the charming Marquess of Ripley, she finds herself te

I’m not always the biggest fan of the whole redeemed rake trope, but I really liked Marcus despite his less than stellar reputation. He was a very sweet guy and was very understanding and patient with Phoebe. I didn’t necessarily find her to be a spitfire, but I liked her a lot anyway. I really liked that she didn’t let her parents push her around as so many historical romance heroines are wont to do.

Th biggest chunk of the action happens near the end of the book, but this did not take away fro

A sensual , passionate and emotional adventure that has a wonderfully satisfying ending.

Our tough and feisty female is Phoebe, she a wonderful character full of grit and determination.
Our gent is Marquess Marcus Ripley , he’s a ladies man and loves nothing more than his dissolute lifestyle.

The two of them begin a friendship that grows an attraction, that evolves into a love that is beautiful to read about.

It’s an enjoyable experience to visit this world of Darcy’s and I cant wait for
Oh. My. God. I loved it. Right from the very first page I was in love. I was in love with he hero and the heroine and the story. Guys, I stayed up waaaaay too late last night reading this.

I loved Marcus, how caring and kind and thoughtful he was. And I loved Phoebe, how in spite of some bad stuff that happened to her, she wanted to take control of her life and body and how they ultimately came together, oh my heart completely melted. This really is one of the sweetest novels I read in a long tim

A Duke is Never Enough is the second book in The Spitfire Society series by Darcy Burke and it can be read as stand-alone. I have to say that I enjoyed this book way more than I liked the first in the series, so for me, it's ok to skip the first book and dive into this one. All the issues I had with the first book (namely, that I felt like I was reading contemporary romance instead of historical) we not present in this book and I was able to enjoy it.

I loved Phoebe and Marcus! This had many familiar elements that I love about historical romance and yet it felt like a breath of fresh air.

The women of The Spitfire Society series seem like people that I could become friends with and the world that Darcy Burke created is such an interesting one. I love the idea of female characters breaking stereotypes thrust upon them within the confines of society, or, on literature level - a genre. So like I mentione

Here we go. Darcy Burke amazed me with her book, A Duke is Never Enough. The book gripped me from the beginning with the instant passion that sparks between Marcus and Phoebe. Wow! The love scenes were very steamy and hot!
The details and the imagination that went into the writing of those scenes put me right in the room with them. I felt naughty just reading them. I was excited to read more of it though. I wanted more of those scenes th

Loving The Spitfire Society books. Darcy knows how to write regency romance. This book, I think, is her steamiest book that I've read. I fly through her books. I've purchased and read many of her backlist to keep me from withdrawals.

A Duke is Never Enough is the second book in The Spitfire Society series by Darcy Burke. It can easily be read as a standalone book, but if you haven't read the first one I can definitely recommend it, I loved it just as much as I loved this one. Darcy Burke is definitely one of my favourite authors and her books never disappoint.

Due to an event in the park, she comes to the aid of Marcus, Marquess of Ripley. Marcus has the reputation of a rake, he never wants a permanent relationship and prefers to flit from one to another. In A Duke is Never Enough, Phoebe Lennox, now notorious for refusing to marry her betrothed, is living a somewhat life of luxury as the heiress of a late relative, away from her parents, and with no plans to marry. A lot of people have given her the cut, but she's happy with the life she has. When she comes across Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley, bleeding after an argument in the park, she i

I have a good friend who really enjoys historical/regency era romances and has read some of this author's work. I decided to give this one a try. It's the second book in the Spitfire Society trilogy. I read this without reading the first. It served well as a standalone as well.

As for the book itself, I really enjoyed it. I liked the aspect of Phoebe taking her own role when that isnt necessarily the norm. She has a good heart and you can really tell from her initial arrival in the book.

So we are back at the Ton, I so know that I could not have lived around that time I would have been gossipped about so much. Anywho so we meet Phoebe and I have to say, I liked her, she stood up for herself and left her stupid fiance not caring that the Ton would criticize or gossip or whatever it is that they would do. But luckily for her she ends up getting money from an aunt and can now return and live how she wants. Good for her! Then we have Marcus, who also did not care or would succumb to ...more

This book focussed on Phoebe Lennox, self confirmed spinster of independent means. Having abandoned her husband to be at the alter for being horrible she has been rejected by society. She meets Lord Ripley after he's had a dispute with his cousin. The pair find they have far more in common than just an instant attraction to each other. Their stories become intertwined as a consequence of financial matters and criminal activity.

There is quite a bit if sexual activity in this book. Phoebe wants L

What do you get when you cross a spinster with a rakehell? An un-put-downable story with emotion and humor and quirky unconventional characters you can’t help but fall in love with.
Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley and Phoebe Lennox were both content with their reputations. He as a libertine and she as a self-declared spinster. Both shared a poor opinion of marriage and both were content with their solitary lives. But when thrown together while Marcus is hunting down his swindling cousin, the

I knew I was going to love Marcus’s story and he met his match in Phoebe. Neither one of them cares about the ton’s rules or has a desire to marry until they meet. I loved how they started out making wagers and becoming friends, but anyone that saw them knew it was more. From the moment they met, there was heat between them and I knew they wouldn’t be able to fight it. I love when couples go into things not wanting to get attached because when they fall in love they fall hard.
