Twenty-nine-year-old Sage Gordon has had it with love. When she's not busy running her metaphysical gift shop in the old-money town of Swansea, New York, she's content with the company of her dog and two cats.

Sage Gordon's fiancé, Caleb, left her life in shambles when he took off with Sage's best friend. It wasn't the first time love had left her cold. Jimmy Cole, her childhood best friend and the guy she thought she'd someday marry, disappeared in the middle of the night when they were kids. No one knew where he and his family had gone. Love has caused her too much heartache and she wants it to look away and leave her alone. To top off the turmoil, her employee Margie has a meltdown and quits Sage E ...more

Impressively named Godiva Genevieve Jones entered Sage Gordon’s life, and gift shop, at exactly the right time. The fact that Godiva managed to get rid of an angry customer and step into a very recent job opening worked just fine for Sage. Godiva was perfect for the store, calm and professional, totally unlike her predecessor.

Sage has resolved to turn her back on love and concentrate on running her store. Jimmy, the boy she grew up with and her first love, disappeared suddenly and without a word

Lisette Brodey can be relied upon to come up with unusual storylines, captivating characters and a narrative that is free of clichés. I don’t often dip into the romance genre as the outcomes are usually too predictable, but in ‘Love, Look Away’ I was never entirely sure of the direction Sage’s life was going to take.
The owner of a new-age gift shop in New York, Sage has turned her back on love, taking her fulfilment from the running of the business and bestowing her love and affection on her pe

Set in Swansea (New York not Wales), like her previous novel Molly Hacker is Too Picky!, this is the story of Sage Gordon who owns the gift shop, Sage Earth Gifts. It is not a sequel but does feature some of the same characters. We see the world through Sage’s eyes, and at the start of the book she is not in a good place.
The book opens with a ‘difficult’ customer causing a scene and introduces the other main character, Godiva Genevieve Jones. The two women bond over their recent romantic troubl

During the ongoing insanity of 2020, this book is the mental equivalent of wrapping up in a treasured blanket with some hot tea --- it's all about comfort and relaxation. In this book, the author weaves a delightful tale of friendship and romance --- a welcome and much-needed break from the daily insanity.

The characters are well written and easy to like. Don't miss this great read!

There is a natural easy fluidity in Lisette Brodey's writing style that grips you and keeps you reading. From the first page, Brodey catapults the reader into the world of Sage Gordon, and her shop Sage Earth Gifts. The characters are quirky and fun, and the dialogue between them has a natural flow which really engages the reader. Sage Gordon has had enough with love after the man she is to marry dumps her for her best friend, only to try and win her back. But while Sage asks love to look away, ...more

I have received this book in exchange for an honest review. I have given Love, Look Away by Lisette Brodey two out of five stars ⭐️⭐️
I really wanted to like this book but I'm afraid it wasn't for me. I fount the writing style and dialogue in particular to be stilted and felt that the way words were used in conversation between characters wouldn't necessarily be said in real time.
I found it quite difficult to connect with any of the characters within the story. Although they were friendly and s ...more

Sometimes we don’t see what is right before our eyes

I enjoyed the sense of camaraderie in the town of Swansea. The characters ere all interesting people and a few reminded me of people I know. What I didn’t like was the way otherwise nice people became snarky, especially at the party. They could have shown their anger at Naomi in a more grownup way.

Love, Look Away is a charming romantic comedy novel written by Lisette Brody. This gem takes place in Swansea, New York, and is as entertaining as it is amiable.

Brodey sets the stage of this tale in a sweet, albeit offbeat gift shop. You can find all things mystical in the shop. Mystical can also be used to describe the characters depicted in this lovely tome. A past love has gone in the blink of an eye. A broken heart leftover from a rebound relationship. And the sweet love offered by two men l

Love, Look Away by Lisette Brodey

Set in the upscale town of Swansea, Sage is the owner of a metaphysical gift shop. Unlucky in love, after a bump in a relationship, she is read to give up (on love). Memories from her childhood of the boy she would one day marry, who just vanished from her life, still haunt (her) and affect her life.

While trying to resume a normal life, she finds two men attracted to her. Not sure what direction her life will take her, or if she should give love a second chance,

I would say this book is more character driven then plot driven and it moves at a steady pace but sometimes it felt like it was dragging to me. The characters are well developed with their own distinguishable personalities.

I enjoyed the relationships in this book, both romantic and friendships but I have to say I was more interested in the past. I wanted to know what happened to Jimmy so while reading I was constantly like when is it going to tell us what happened to Jimmy which is honestly pro

Looking back on my review of Lisette Brodey’s, Molly Hacker is Too Picky, I called it “a well written, character driven romance.” Well, Brodey has returned to the lovely town of Swansea and written another one. This time we meet Sage Gordon, a good hearted shop owner still reeling from the betrayal of a slippery boyfriend. In her despair, she asks love to “look away…” Naturally we can guess how that works out, but I highly recommend you take the ride, with new characters and old (yes, the puckis ...more
