Holy smokes the deceit and lies in this world of Dragons just keeps getting more intense as each book reveals just who is a Mate and who is the enemy. The old guard that control the way Dragons find a Mate are pushing everyone to find the one woman who can heal the rotting King. A Dragon who goes unmated for more than a thousand years slowly decays but if the King forcibly mates with the wrong woman his fire will quite literally burn her alive !

Drake understands the dangers of not finding your Mate because like his King his body is betraying him and as he doesn’t want to let his team of Enforcers down he’s prepared to leave and be considered rogue which is an automatic death sentence. It’s just too bad that the little human he recently saved during a fire happens to be where he’s hiding. Not only is Cami maddeningly annoying but she also happens to be a woman who is capable of transforming into a Dragon but it’s far too late for Drake isn’t it ?
Having started this series with the prequel The Mate I found it a lot easier to understand the politics and mating procedure than some other reviewers. If honest I really do think it’s essential reading to get the best out of this series and as I write it’s free on kindle so a definite recommendation. I liked this couple and could understand just why Drake who is stubborn and loyal really didn’t want to hurt anyone but himself. Now luckily Cami is just as stubborn as Drake is so she had no intention of ever leaving him in peace to brood and just slowly decay away. I confess I’d like more about the rotting King as he’s notably absent and his “council goons” are running the show. There are definitely those with their own agenda here but perhaps most intriguing is Rune the sneaky black Dragon who I’d definitely like to know much more about. If blunt apart from a slight alluding to a missing Phoenix and a shake up in Drakes team this particular book didn’t really move the overall plot along much but I’m hoping that the next book will combine romance with action and obviously ultimately a revolution !

I am so excited to be back with these HOT firefighting dragon shifters, and to meet some new ones in The Enforcer, the third book of the Fire’s Edge series by Abigail Owen.

Drake and Cami cracked me up! Her sassiness and determination to dig under his thick hide and his stoic demeanor and silence in the face of a chatterbox just fanned the sparky little flames between them into quite an inferno of attraction and bonding! They fit well together, even when in denial of the obvious possibilities, but gracious what a journey it was to get there!!

I am loving Abigail Owen’s dragons! The politics, the backgrounds, the friendships, alliances...all are intricately woven and intriguing in their own ways. However the romance is what draws me every time! Drake and Cami were very strong characters and their relationship alternated between butting heads and finding that someone strong enough to stand up to! But it made for wonderful tension and one heck of an intimate explosion! Really, there’s a whole storyline of goodies happening ...

The Enforcer is book three of the Fire’s Edge series and could be read as a stand-alone. There’s a recap given that explains the political landscape and the current situation the guys find themselves in, however, I recommend reading the series from the start because there is an entirely delicious world of sexy dragons and their madcap journeys just waiting to be discovered!

The Enforcer by Abigail Owen is book three in her Fire’s Edge series. This was my introduction to this author, and it was a pleasant experience. The author provides adequate backstory from earlier books in this series, so I was able to completely follow the story. Each novel in the series is a standalone, but the backstory was still helpful.

I liked this one, I really did. But even so, it took me too long to finish because I was so easily able to put it aside for other things. I don't know, I guess it just didn't suck me in despite everything I liked. I really liked how this time the female mc already knew about dragons and the whole mating thing by the time she meets her mate. I also got pretty excited that this one was bringing in some things from The Rogue King. I really liked that book.

I'm pretty ambivalent about Drake as a char I liked this one, I really did. But even so, it took me too long to finish because I was so easily able to put it aside for other things. I don't know, I guess it just didn't suck me in despite everything I liked. I really liked how this time the female mc already knew about dragons and the whole mating thing by the time she meets her mate. I also got pretty excited that this one was bringing in some things from The Rogue King. I really liked that book.

I'm pretty ambivalent about Drake as a character. He definitely didn't have me swooning for him or anything, but he was a really great guy. One who is dying and continuously tortures himself in order to protect those he cares for the most. Sure he's broody and would rather grunt at you before using words, but that's attractive in it's own way. Isn't it?

I really liked Cami in the beginning. She did the right thing in order to protect her family and was able to learn more about her fate and the world of dragon shifters. She was smart enough to know that she had to be sure before choosing a mate and was in no hurry. She wasn't afraid of Drake and the way she dealt with him was good too. But then she turned all selfish about her family and stupid and it was annoying.

We all knew that Drake was dying, but we didn't really know just how bad it gotten for him. And far too early considering his age. In order to protect his brothers and his sister he makes one of the hardest decisions in his life. Leaving them and going with Rune. By this point, Drake can't even fly by himself and when he arrives at Rune's hideout, he passes out. For a few days. When Drake arrived, he was beyond shocked to see Cami. He had saved her and her family from a fire only a short time before and he had no idea she was a mate. But here she is and she's also the only one willing to deal with his bad attitude to take care of him.

A good chunk of this book takes place inside Rune's hideout. So we see Drake getting all that hostility and not caring one bit. We also get to see Cami interacting with Skylar who is the next female mc in the Inferno Rising tie in series. We get a little bit more Rune here too, but not nearly enough for me. Dare I hope he gets his own book somewhere between these two series? Anyway. During this time Drake and Cami don't so much as get closer per se, but they kind of do. Does that make sense? Drake is also becoming suspicious of some things when he notices that occasionally he doesn't suffer from any of his symptoms.

When Cami hears kind of bad news from her mother is when she becomes selfish and stupid. Selfish because she doesn't care about anything but getting back to them, and stupid because by doing so all she is doing is putting them in danger. Something she doesn't realize AT ALL. Come on, I thought she was smarter than that. But Drake refuses to let her go alone, so it's off they go together. Once they get back to her family's ranch, things only keep getting more and more complicated.

Despite what they feel for each other, Drake is harsh in his pushing Cami away because he thinks he's protecting her. But at the same time his willpower is weak and he always eventually gives in. I will say their love scenes were pretty hot. While at the ranch, Drake catches the scent of an enemy and risks it by going back to his team to warn them. From there things go a little crazy and we get a lot more action. The Alaz team is on their way and the friction between these two teams is high. Toss in Cami being a mate and the mark she bares and it's got explosive possibilities. Now they just have to figure out a way for Drake to mate her without getting him labeled a traitor and dragging his team down with him. But they come up with a plan. It's a risky gamble indeed, but one that pays off. Especially when Rune shows up to play his part.

What I hated was how this ended. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS DECISION. (view spoiler)

I like Drake. Liked him from the last book too. This one wasn't quite as exciting as the others were, but it's still Dragons, so it still grabbed my attention. I do wish there had been a bit more action with Drake, a little less moping on his part (snarling I guess would be a better, more manly word, but moping is what he was doing), but I guess it's to be expected considering he's convinced he's dying the whole time.

As for Cami, there really wasn't enough time given to her. She could have turne I like Drake. Liked him from the last book too. This one wasn't quite as exciting as the others were, but it's still Dragons, so it still grabbed my attention. As for Cami, there really wasn't enough time given to her. She could have turned out to be a strong character, stronger than she was portrayed here, had more time been given to developing her. We got to know her a bit as a strong willed woman who toughed her way through life on a farm with a large family, but it wasn't enough to really get to know her personality.

All in all, I guess this one I'd have to give a 3.7, although I made it a 4 by rounding up. I think there was a lot of backstory, and forward story that was left unsaid, untold. I think Rune almost played a large role in the story but wasn't quite given the chance to really come out, and his crew could have been developed better as well. It almost felt as if Abigail just didn't have a feel for Drake and Cami so couldn't do them justice in this volume.

There seems to be a lot going on in the background, though, and it all needs to catch up with where Inferno Rising is right now. Hopefully, next book, regardless who she concentrates on next, will bring us more backstory, more fleshing out of the world around these guys, and get us more involved with the politics and drama of the Kings and the clans and what's happening with all of them. Hopefully Ms. Owen will give us more than just the build up of the Dragon and his perspective mate (Levi and Lyndi next?) and bring us some real meat to the world she's created. There's so much going on in the background, yet that's where it keeps staying...in the background.

I love your Dragons, Abigail Owen, and I firmly believe they have a story to tell. And while I enjoy some good, solid lovemaking, I need real substance in between love scenes. And I know you can do that because Inferno Rising proved that, as have the first 2 Fire's Edge books, so, please, let's get back to the story behind and around the matings.

As always, Abigail's Dragons come to life for me with their descriptions and their antics. I'm just hoping to see more of their world. Looking forward to seeing who comes next and what you will bring to the table with the next volume. ...more

The process started earlier than it should have for Drake and he knows it's just a matter of time. So he leaves his team mates and takes refuge with Rune who has been helping to keep some female mates safe.

Cami is staying with Rune and the other female mates when Rune brings Drake to stay with them but Drake is not well and very Drake is a dragon shifter and he's dying because he hasn't found his mate. When a dragon shifter doesn't find his mate, he eventually starts to get weak, sick and die. The process started earlier than it should have for Drake and he knows it's just a matter of time. So he leaves his team mates and takes refuge with Rune who has been helping to keep some female mates safe.

Cami is staying with Rune and the other female mates when Rune brings Drake to stay with them but Drake is not well and very hard to get along with so none of the other people there want to help him. But Cami can see through his gruff exterior and takes it upon herself to help him while he's there. He seems to start to feel better and when she decides to leave to see her family, Drake goes along with her to keep her safe.

Drake and Cami are so different from each other but the chemistry is there for both of them. Cami is so outgoing, so friendly and warm compared to Drake. He just can't help but smile even if it's just to himself at times by some of the things she says or does around him. He's such a gruff curmudgeon but he doesn't want to let anyone get close to him since he knows he's dying. He thinks that even if he finds his mate at this late point it won't be enough to stop the disease from killing him and thus killing his mate in the process so he's decided not to even try.

But Cami doesn't let that stop her from getting under his skin and making him feel something for her. When they are with her family they get a lot closer and she doesn't want to let him just give up but she has a hard time making him see her way of things.

There are political twists going on and so dragons who are actually allies have to be in secret for now until things change or people will be killed. There's danger in this book because of this and I think that these things will get changed as this series goes on. I've read all the books in this series so far and it's been riveting, it's really kept me on the edge of my seat to see what will happen next.

I love the Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising series from Abigail Owen. This is the third book in the Fire's Edge series and it builds into what we have already seen and there is a cross over with the first Inferno Rising series (which seems to take place at roughly the same time as this one and there are some cross over events). This book does work as a stand-alone, but really you should read the other books first, just because they are so good.

Smoking hot dragons, yes this book is full of them 🔥

Drake is the main man in this story and his a little gruff, well he has a good reason - his body is dying as he hasn't found his mate in his lifetime.

Cami is a woman with strong family roots, she's also showing signs of being a mate and she seems drawn to Drake.

There are lots of twists in the dragon world, who's good and who's bad, the lines seem to blur sometimes but keeps you intrigued.

This series just keeps on getting better and better. The Enforcer is here and I've just been waiting to get my hands on Drake's story. I refused to accept that he was too late to find his mate, it just wasn't a possibility in my mind. And of course, Abigail would NEVER do something like that to us.

Great complex character’s including deep dark bruiting male dragon shifters and confident, brave, and witty females. The romance is searingly HOT, raw, passionate, and emotional. I love the romance but my favorite thing about this book is the clever, witty, and humorous banter between the characters! I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

I liked the central romance in this one between Drake and Camila but the story suffers from trying to tell too many other stories at the same time. The author has two simultaneous series - Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising. This is part of Fire's Edge, a group of firefighting dragons who work as forestry hotshot smokejumpers, dealing with man made and dragon made fires.

I love a down trodden hero story! Make it paranormal and I just want to sigh..... This is the 3rd book in the series and although it could be read as a stand alone, I think it is helpful to read them in order in order to understand the world building.

Drake is dying and he wants to do whatever he can to ease his passing on his band of brothers and his baby sister. He does not feel worthy to have a mate and is determined to be growly and pushy so no one gets close.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I must admit that I enjoyed it so much. Drake is coming to the end of his life. Knowing he has no hope of finding a mate he leaves his brothers behind only find the woman he rescued from a fire months before. Drake knows that Camilla is human so the draw he feels for her doesn't make sense. While Camilla bears the mark of a dragon mate she does believe in dragons. This one sat better with me than the previous book. I always like dark and broody men, add in a dragon shifter and we have hit the trifecta!

Drake is sick and knows he's dying. He leaves the Hurcan team and turns to a former enemy for a place to die. There is meets Camilla again. He rescued her and her family during a wildfire. Drake feels better when he's near her, but refuses to believe that she is his mate. They have to go back to help her family, and The Alliance is interfering with stuff again. Oooh! I love how complicated everything is getting. I can’t wait for this one to cross over with the Inferno Rising series. Drake & Cami were a great couple! Also now that I’ve read this one, I do like Skylar more (from The Blood King).

Pro tip: read this series & Inferno Rising at the same time in order. They are interconnected and it’s a very enjoyable experience to read them all!

This one was a DNF for me. From the first encounter with Cami I was completely turned off by her character. She was just so immature and rude. I made it a couple of chapters in before I had to just end it.

Sparks are certainly flying in this dragon shifter paranormal romance!

Whenever I begin one of these dragon shifter romances, I always find myself surprised how determined these men often are to ignore the signs that their mate is right in front of them. Of all the books in this series so far though, I would have to say that Drake had the most compelling and understandable reason. All of the signs point to say that Camilla is his destined mate, staring him right in the face. Her proximity, her to Sparks are certainly flying in this dragon shifter paranormal romance!

Whenever I begin one of these dragon shifter romances, I always find myself surprised how determined these men often are to ignore the signs that their mate is right in front of them. Of all the books in this series so far though, I would have to say that Drake had the most compelling and understandable reason. All of the signs point to say that Camilla is his destined mate, staring him right in the face. Her proximity, her touch, make him feel alive in a way he's never felt before. He feels drawn to her from the very first moment he lays eyes on her. And yet, he does everything within his power to try and push her away. The reason? He's dying.

All unmated dragons eventually age die if they ultimately go too long without mating. This degenerative process usually impacts dragons centuries down the road, but for Drake it's hitting him earlier than anyone would have expected. He's too proud to admit to his shifter teammates the sad fate that he knows will overtake him soon, as he quickly starts losing the ability to move, so he decides to abandon them to die out in peace without the need for them to witness his decline. When he runs to an old friend to live out his last days, he's confronted with Camilla, and the very real possibility that she's his mate. Rather than feeling a sense of relief at finding the one person meant for him, he instead refuses to hope that she could be his salvation.

Drake is convinced he's too far gone to be pulled back from the brink, and worries that if they should proceed with the mating process when they are in fact too late, his eventual death would result in Camilla's death too following their solidified link as mates. He vows he'll never risk her life in an attempt to save his own. However, just as much as I admired Drake's selfless determination to protect, you've gotta love Camilla's stubbornness above all else!

She might be new to this world of dragons, mates, councils and enforcers, but when she acknowledges wholeheartedly that Drake is her destined mate, her reaction to his attempts to push her away are fabulous. Essentially, tough sh*t buddy! Yes, mating might eventually link them together in a way that would simultaneously cause her death with his own, but Camilla realizes that she would rather spend those few precious moments with Drake linked in the most firm emotional and physical connection possible, than to live out the rest of her life never having experienced it. She refuses to turn her back on him, and it was quite entertaining to see this slight woman stand up to an imposing and surly dragon shifter. You get it girl!

This was a great addition to the series. The moments where we witness vulnerability from this seemingly brusque, tough dragon were by far the most compelling. He gives off this air as though nothing can infiltrate the protective barriers he's set up around himself, but Camilla has taken hold of his heart and refuses to let go. A missing element to this book which was featured prominently in the previous novels was the brotherly connection of these dragon enforcers. It makes sense in a way in that Drake didn't want his team to witness his decay, and he's leaving them behind so as not to have to struggle through an emotional goodbye. This results in the story being much more focused on his relationship with Camilla. There's definitely nothing wrong with that, and while we get a few scenes which highlight the brotherly affection of the Huracan Enforcer team, I think I would have enjoyed another scene or two involving these dragons coming together as brothers. ...more

Camilla Carrillo was saved by a dragon...but all she remembers are dreams too wild to believe. Only they become more believable as weird things begin to happen around here. Fires start, seemingly out of thin air, and they seem to be ignited by her. Approached by a man who claims to be able to help her, she has no choice but to leave with him if only to save her family from the danger she might bring to them. Once safely in hiding, she learns she is a dragon's mate, only they don't know which dragon until she meets him. But what if she already has? Drake is dying, his body failing, and all hope of finding his mate in time to save his life has been lost. When he sees Camilla for the second time, he recognizes that she could save him. Only by saving him, she could be dooming herself to die with him. And that he cannot allow.

Camilla was a heroine every woman can be proud of - she held her own, stood up for what she wanted, and she didn't take Drake's crap. She recognized that he was all bark and no bite...so to speak...and his stubborn nature would get him killed. I loved how she continued to come back to him, even when he would be rude and disrespectful, because she saw it for what it was. He was trying to protect himself and her, and once he recognized that they could be mates, it got even worse. To others he might appear selfish and misguided, but his actions were born of love and desperation. It was really quite humbling to read, as his was a character who was both strong of mind and weak of heart. He needed Camilla to make his heart strong as well. They needed each other, and when they finally acknowledged that fact, it made for a beautiful romance.

The next book is, of course, going to be amazing! I can't wait to read it and learn more about the fiery world of dragons, their mates, and the newly discovered family of phoenixes.

“Her heart thundered away against the inside of her ribs, the sound loud in the relative silence of the room and the flutter pulsing against his skin between their clothes. Her breathing pushed her breasts against her shirt. Against him.

Despite the fear pumping adrenaline through her system, she gazed at him with wide eyes that showed an inexplicable trust that grated against him like a sandpaper sponge bath.

“What are you going to do to me?” she whispered.

Almost like she was daring him.

“You’re a mate,” he said.

“So?”

“Mates are like catnip to my kind—an obsession, a driving urge to find our own. What if I took you now, claimed you, pushed my fire into you?”

Her lips fell open on a silent gasp, but fear didn’t reflect back at him even still. “You’d kill me if you aren’t my destined mate.”

So, someone had at least warned her of the deadly consequences should the wrong man try to turn her. Had she listened? He squeezed her wrists a little harder, pressing into her so she couldn’t mistake the heavy cock pressing into her belly. “Yes.”

“You’d lose a part of your soul as well,” she pointed out.

He allowed his lips to tip up in what he fully intended to be a menacing smile. “Perhaps it’s worth it.”

She stared back at him for a long minute. Then, suddenly, her heart quieted, her breathing slowed, her body relaxing under his. “Go ahead.”

She was fucking daring him. Inside his head, his dragon growled, but not a warning, more like approval. The animal side of him liked this woman.

That scared the hell out of him enough to have him fighting the foreign urge to scramble off her.

When he said nothing, she tipped her head. “Just like I thought. All bark.”

Bulls facing off against a matador in a ring dealt with less provocation than this woman was daring to throw at him.

“You talk a good game,” she continued. “But you won’t hurt me.”

Irritation spiked and swirled with a rushing need that had gripped him since the second she’d stepped in front of him in the hangar and he’d recognized her.

Drake slammed his mouth over hers, his kiss both full of frustration, but also determined to frighten her into some semblance of self-preservation. He kissed her harshly, wildly, even as he continued to pin her to the bed.

Except she didn’t whimper or turn away or struggle. Instead, Cami opened her mouth and licked the full seam of his lips, demanding entrance.

Fuck.

Gods help him, he opened, tangling his tongue with hers, reveling in the give and take. Her flavor melted across his tongue, sweet and tart at the same time, imprinting on his mind.

A glow vaguely penetrated his senses behind his closed eyes, followed by a burst of heat that seemed to be originating from her.

Almost as fast as it happened, Drake jerked back with a hiss, staring at a glowing spot under her white tank top. The source of the heat.

Definitely a dragon mate. Which meant off-limits. Another shifter’s mate.

With a groan he rolled away from her, flopping to his back, and flung an arm over his eyes, doing his damnedest to convince his dick to get its head out of the game. “You need to get out of here.” — 0 likes
