Blood Rose
by Rachael Vaughn
Looking at your epic story of an adventure in another land Blood Rose is a great jaunt into a world of imagination. A young woman devastated by the sudden loss of her family has changed her entire life in a moment. She has moved to a small town. Found a job, that she is over qualified for and found a place to relax. All of this changes when magic comes into her life. Rose finds herself in a land of large bugs, talking mice, and people remarkably odd, and kind. Will she

Thank you to Xpresso Bpok Tours for granting my request on Netgalley for this book. All opinions are my own.

Rose goes hiking and stumbles upon something new, a new world opens up for her and she has an adventure together with people she meets there.

On paper that sounds just like the type of stories I enjoy when it comes to the fantasy genre. Normal person who just happens to find something much bigger or go through worlds to something more fantastical where they find their purpose and learn som

I would first like to state I received an ARC for an honest review of this book, so here we go.

I didn’t finish because it felt like the story wasn’t progressing. Rose was beginning her adventure, but at 10% in it felt like it might take too many pages for her to actually be on her way I lost interest. I realize someone might say, “That doesn’t seem deep enough in,” yet it was when she spent the first chapter complaining about Indiana summers (they do suck) without explaining why she decided a ra

This book was a struggle for me, and let me say I'm grateful for receiving an ARC from Netgalley. This book should have been right down my alley. It is a story of a young woman who has her whole life planned out for her and well things usually don't go the way they should or choices...whatever. Anyways after moving to Indiana, she finds a house in the woods that leads her on an adventure in a new world filled with magic, mystery, and brand new creatures.

I love this sort of fantasy world, sort o

5 Cranky Stars

This is a well written story. I found it entertaining and a little different. As usual, there is mystery, magic and strange creatures. Also, a different world parallel to Earth.

The main character is Rose. She had her life all planned out. She had her dream job to start and a secure future guaranteed. However, nothing is ever guaranteed. In college graduation day, her parents and her sister were killed in an auto accident on there way to the ceremony. Unable to handle her grief, sh

I'm being slightly generous with the stars.. I'd like to give it 2 and a half.. but it's better than 2.

"This novel left me conflicted, and it makes sense.. since 'Rachael Vaughn' is actually the pen name for a couple. According to their website bio, Laura Rachael Black and Trenton Vaughn Hockersmith share the writing duties.. and while such a partnership can yield amazing results, it requires the partners to be on equal footing creativ

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Where to start?

I didn't give this a high star rating, because there were a lot of weaknesses. Some of the characters' motivations were a bit hazy, and I didn't understand how some of them knew the information that they knew.

One of the surprises was something I guessed easily, (view spoiler).

And I found the world... well, fantastical and dreamlike

I wanted to read this book for the cover. It looks interesting and the blurb sounds like a good fantasy book. But unfortunately it wasn't as I thought. The story is about a dying Wonderland, a twin world with ours. It's a bit confusing and, like Alice, I didn't know what would happen next. Zombie mice, blue trees, a girl with a red eye who has a bag full with heads. You can't say no to a story like this.

The beginning is good, it makes you to fall in love with the book. But after the middle of th

I recieved an early review copy of this book from Net Galley.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a modern-day fairy tale, reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland (although I was underwhelmed by Alice and was charmed by this book). The story is enchanting, and each time I had to lay it down, I was eager to return to it. The world Vaughn creates is fantastical, yet familiar. The plot propelled forward at a satsfying pace. Consistent with the magical tone, not all mysteries are answered by the end of

THis was wierd and confusing and i felt i wasnt reading the first book. I was extremly confused in this fantasy world and i think it needed more to make it better. The big dun dun duns were overly easy to guess but i did like the concept of the mysterious illness and the rare person who can travel it just didnt work out. It reads very quickly and if you were probably in high school you would enjoy the world more than i did because it was very YA and not as suspensful as i assumed/

The world building in this book is interesting but Rose was not a great lead for me. She just pretty much went along for the ride - not questioning things she should. The story is told from multiple view points and that got pretty confusing at times. Overall I found it pretty slow paced and an okay read

This wasn't an enjoyable read but it has potential. My main issue is that it just took too long for this story to start shaping up. Waiting until almost 50% of the book was read to learn about where the rot came from, what role Neku and Yesendria played. Even the Ma'ar's background took forever to get too.
Maybe if Chapter 23 started the book off, it would be a better read.

The author created an Amazingly inventive world that I loved very much. I was a bit disappointed when the book ended - I always feel that way about good books coming to a close. Hopefully, there will be more from her!

I don’t understand why all the text is in bold. It almost feels like a passive yelling on the pages. The world building was very descriptive and I could imagine the world well. It felt like I was ready a mystery novel that made me want to know what was going to happen next.
