I saved the city. Twice. Honest, I did.

Or at least I helped a lot.

That should be enough, right?

But, oh, no! I still have gang wars to stop, a crazy new drug to deal with, and my only ally is a convicted psycho-killer!

And, come on people, now I have to start a new school?

If you enjoy high-octane action with powerful villains and a hero who refuses to give up, you will love Raven’s thrilling adventures in Vigilantes, the third book of Superpower Chronicles. Perfect for fans of Spider-Man and The Teen Titans. Get your copy today!

Vigilantes is Book 3 of the Superpower Chronicles series by Arthur Mayor. The main character, named Raven, is a fighting specialist that uses his agility and strength to fight and move. He uses his parkour skills to move quickly from one environment to another rapidly, although in certain situations his movement is not nearly fast enough.

The entire series has led to a confrontation between the sidekicks of the superhero group Guardian and the assassins that killed the members of Guardian. Raven and the other sidekicks have attempted to replace their mentor and primaries, but there was never a set strategy of how to go about doing so. Theoretically, replacement was not supposed to happen until years in the future.

Raven has assumed the mantle of leadership, but he is still a kid barely out of high school and just starting college. He has issues with his parents, and in many ways adventuring is an outlet for his psychosocial issues. There's a lot of angst which is emblematic of teen superhero stories like Uncanny X-men, Teen Titans, and especially Spider-man. In any case, I recommend the Superpower Chronicles as Superhero Comics in narrative form.

Okay, so funny story. I love this series, I think it's really great. I praised it in my review of the previous book. But for now (and perhaps forever), I'm putting it down. Why, you may ask? Well, this series gets really dark and gritty sometimes. There's drug use, torture, and killing/murderous intentions all described on-page (yet, the series still keeps its heroes mostly heroic. They have their flaws). And it's quite graphic sometimes. I'm pretty sensitive, so I just can't read that kinda stuff, especially back-to-back. And is reading a book worth the regret I feel after for having certain scenes that are here and there being in my mind? No, I don't think so. So, I still do love this series and I would probably recommend it to people who could handle it. But if you can't handle VERY VIOLENT THINGS, please please please spare yourself from this series. The Renegades series, from what I recall, is a bit tamer and just as fun. There's also a SUPER tame superhero series I read quite a few years back called The Cloak Society that you might enjoy. That one was fun, too. This one, I'd love to continue, and maybe one day I will--- but it would have to be in the right timing.

All that being said, I did genuinely enjoy this book. The characters were endearing as always, there was lots of action and intrigue, SUPER funny with ironic secret-identity scenes, and just overall epicness. Ugh, I really wish this series was tamer. I had so much fun reading this.

Even for those teens who can handle it, I would ONLY recommend this for 15 AT THE YOUNGEST and older. I'd say even 16, probably.

Comic Book Heros

This author could make a fortune with Marvel Comics! I swear there is sooooo much potential, especially in this "stay safe at home" time era. Maybe the next book will feature covid 19 proof people. I'm off to buy the next in the series!

Again: dude. Use spellcheck. It's free with any tool you might reasonably use to write a book. And then check for homonym errors, because spellcheck won't catch those, and there are a lot of them. After that, look at your punctuation, especially capitalization.

But setting aside the many, many copy editing issues that kept throwing me out of the story, this isn't bad. There's an element of coincidence (people meeting out of costume who know each other in costume), but it increases rather than decreases the trouble the protagonist is in, so it's allowable under the Pixar Rules.

Ryan/Raven, the hapless protag, is trying to be a good, normal teenager, but the city won't let him; it keeps needing him to save it. And everyone is making moral compromises (including him, to a degree, mostly in who he's accepting help from), and it just keeps on getting worse.

There are a lot of superhero fights, maybe one or two too many, though they are well done.

Overall, these are good supers stories, but I really wish he'd get a better editor.

Another Great Addition To The Series

This book was great! I loved the other two as well, but this one seemed to answer a few of the big questions I've had developing since book one, while simultaneously creating even more. Mayor really knows how to lay out a plot. I'm really looking forward to number 4!

My only complaint is that it was too short! And how did he figure out who the serial killer was?

The pace of the 3rd volume is much better. The characters have been properly developed. The story arc is tight and make sense. I love the self dialog of Ryan. Looking forward to volume 4 now!

Great read

Another great story for the Superpower Chronicles series. I really love how Raven keeps that quips and insults coming during a fight. I am glad they figured out who the serial killer was, but was surprised and a little upset with how Flare dealt with him. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I would recommend this story to any reader interested in very humorous action stories.

The best one of the series so far, I think. Very tightly plotted with lots of surprises and development based on events in the previous books. Can't wait for book 4
