Paladin is the fourth book in the House of Rone / Galactic Gladiators world. Anna Hackett has delivered another great read with just the right amount of romance and thriller. Toren is still healing from the battle with the Edull the freed Simone and her daughter Grace. He is experiencing emotions for the first time and having trouble adapting to them. Because he's unpredictable, Toren hasn't had his weapons system re-implanted which causes him to doubt his worth and contributions to the House of ...more

I decided on Paladin today because I knew exactly what I would be getting from this latest entry in Hacketts swords, sandals and occasionally spaceships series. Considering that yesterdays book and tomorrows book are both a bit out there in terms of storytelling, I really felt like something a bit straightforward here in the middle.

Not that gladiators in space is exactly straightforward, but the storytelling in this series, like all of this authors

Dr. Simone Li has been abducted, enslaved, and constantly worried for her daughter. Now they are both safe under the protection of the House of Rone but Simone still feels guilty. Toren, the once emotionless cyborg, was damaged during her rescue and now he cannot control his feelings. She is determined to help Toren work with his emotions while helping to bring down the Edull.

Life is full of ups and downs, Toren. Challenges and triumphs. The struggle, being outside our comfort zone, thats how

Toren is a cyborg from the House of Rone. He was recently taken prisoner by the Edull, and they ripped out a lot of his emotional dampeners. They also damaged his cyborg parts, and hes having a hard time figuring out what his worth is, since hes temporarily banned from fighting, and hes missing parts of himself. Simone was also being held as a prisoner of the Edull, and she and her daughter, Grace, are trying to figure out their new normal.

Something about Simone helps to calm Toren. He is

This book tells the story of Toren and Simone, and is the fourth book in the Galactic Gladiators: House of Rone series.
We met Toren in one of the previous books in the series, where he was seriously hurt by the Edull. Simone and her daughter Grace, were slaves of the Edull, and were rescued in the same book, by the house of Rone gladiators.
Simone and Toren are coming to terms with their new realities, and both want to make sure that the Edull can never make their infernal machines, nor run their

Toren is having a hard time with all these new emotions he's having since he was injured. His team no longer seem to trust him either as he has been relieved of his duties. His one bright spot is Simone. She seems to soothe his jangled nerves and calm the storm inside him. Gracie, her daughter, is another bright spot in his life. She is so curious but her genius IQ tends to lead to a lot of explosions!

The Edull are still on the loose and House of Rone are determined to find Bellamy and any other

Simone and her daughter have been rescued from slavery by the House of Rone cyborgs, but they're not entirely out of the woods yet. The Edull still have humans and other slaves in their grasp and Simone can't stand by and do nothing when she knows how bad their particular brand of slavery is.

Simone's also a little jumpy when it comes to potentially entering into a relationship after her last relationship crashed and burned. Seeing as how Toren is trying his best to go back to the emotionless

First of all, Im a huge fan of this series and the prior series that started this world. I have read every book and while this is standalone, I liked reading them in order since the supportive cast is recurring.

In this book, Simone was previously rescued but during that time, Toren was tortured and his emotion dampeners damaged. We start with him having a difficult time controlling the emotion. I have to say that I initially didnt feel the connection between the two, maybe because he was

Gripping Suspense, thrilling action, witty banter, fabulous character interaction, life-threatening incidents, emotional up and downs, sizzling romance, and a happy forever make "Paladin" an entertaining read.

Heroic cyborgs save Simone and her daughter Grace from the vicious Endull aliens. They are now safe living a free life in The House of Rone. Toren, a hot, powerful cyborg, suffered an injury during the rescue. Unfortunately, this injury has his

Action adventure and alien cyborgs!

Paladin continues the House of Rone series with an action packed story of two people trying to find peace in a world of insecurity. Trying not to get emotions involved. Trying desperately to find Bari Batu, the Edull city somewhere way out in the desert where their former captors are still holding a friend captive. The addition of an 8 year old and a heroine who is a mom is quite refreshing. The fact that the 8 year old is a scrappy bomb making genius is

I received this ARC as part of the advance reading team and as usual I am so grateful and happy to have the chance to read those stories. I love the gladiators of Kore's Magna but lately I have been a bit disappointed, thinking a pattern is repeated : a human woman is saved, saw or know of another human(s) being captive, only focuses on saving them, insisting on being part of the mission, falls for a gladiator. It seems to me that this has been the same story over and over again, leaving less ...more

Simone and Toren House of Rone

It will be a sad day when we have to leave Cathargo and it's gladiators for good. This has been one of my absolute favorite series by Anna Hackett. Simone and her precocious daughter Grace were rescued from Edull clutches in the last book. Both have genius level IQ's and are willing to do whatever it takes to stop the Edull and their horrible experiments. Toren was hurt while rescuing Simone and his once under control emotions are now a storm inside him. The only

Simone, Toren and of course the adorable Grace step into the spotlight in this latest story and its a wonderful read that adds so much to this series. If you want action alongside your hot romance then this story certainly delivers. I'm really enjoying the newest set of bad guys for these cyborgs to battle because they constantly surprise and do amazing things with technology. It's also a joy to see these characters face their fears and realise just how strong together they can

Rating: 3 stars - it was good

One Sentence Summary: House of Rone Cyborg, Toren, is drowning under all the emotions he's suddenly feeling, the strongest being his attraction to scientist Simone Li.

Paladin was a good read but it doesn't stand out for me among the other Galactic Gladiator books; in fact it felt a bit like I'd already read it before. While I wasn't super engaged with the plot, I did like Simone a lot -- she's smart, feisty, and a good

Feeling overwhelmed by emotions he didn't want, Toren was angry and the Terran woman had him at edge making him feel worse. Without his weaponry he considered himself half cyborg but feeling sorry for himself was not going to help him. Simones ex had really done a number on her. Insecurities were dragging her down filling her with doubts and fear for her feelings toward Toren, but she needed to be strong and fight the terrific Edull. Action, adventure, strong emotions, danger, romance and ...more

Oh boy do I love me some sexy cyborgs and Toren does not disappoint. Add to that, his utter confusion / frustration with newly found feelings, a cute girl and a sexy woman and you have a formula for one great read.

Anna Hackett does not disappoint: her stories sweep me away to another world where I can immerse myself in the culture and people I meet along the way. They become friends and it is a perfect escape. Paladin is fantastic. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of the book and am

Dr. Simone Li and Toren are a pair who just do not want to fall in love so of course it happens. This was just what I needed to read right now. A fun series with great characters and villains who are truly bad. Great action, Li's daughter Grace is wonderful and the romance as always is very satisfactory. This is book four. There is the set up for book 5 as the story ends. According to the author that will be the last in the House of Rone series.

Another stellar story with House of Rone!
What a wild ride this is! Edge of your seat action throughout. Simone is the perfect person to help Toren get a grip on his newfound emotions. Well, at least, she helps him exercise them 😉. Simone is one more courageous and resolute woman ready and willing to take on the evil Edull. I know youre going to love watching Simone and Toren and their crazy escapades. The best part? They fall deeply in love! Enjoy!

And boom just like that shes done it again. Hot, hunky cyborg meets human girl and let the shenanigans begin. Add in the evil dudes, bots that arent so very friendly oh oh oh and those Gladiators from books of old (yum yum bubblegum), well not old but previous books in the series. Realistically you can read it on its own but to get the whole picture you really need to read the previous books. Great job Anna but then Im always saying that. ...more

Each book gets more exciting..the way the story line rolls keeps you involved with the House of Rone..theres ex stream fighting,of course as its a gladiator arena..the bad Aliens who want the earth woman..and the man who fights his own emotions and wins his woman...Anna packs these stories full to the brim and I cant personally weight for the story..still more slaves to be found and evil killed....
Anna youre one of best...

I found this couple to be a bit much at times. I only liked them a little together. I don't feel they were a solid hit as a couple. I think they lacked a little depth in character both together and apart. Which is why I only liked the book but didn't love it.

I still totally recommend this author's books.

As always Anna has given us an awesome story full of action and romance. Each book is unique in its own but every one has its happy ending. I look forward to reading more although I'm sad to see that it will be an ending to another great series by Anna but I'm sure she has more planned for us!

Another wonderful book in the House of Rone series. Toren and Simone's tale is one of learning to redefine your life and Ms. Hackett does a superb job of walking her characters to a new personal reality. Plenty of the action and steam that her books are known for make Palidin a must read on my shelf. Enjoy!

Really good.

I loved this book. Usually I don't put down one of Anna's books until I have finished it, but this one did not hold my attention as well. I enjoyed the characters very much, but it was rather slow moving to me. However, I would still very much recommend reading it, because it is a very good romance.

I just cant get enough of Ms Hacketts amazing books! This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. There is so much exciting action, suspense, humor, romance, aliens, cyborgs, romance, and humans that dont give up! I enjoy this addition to the series. But I have to say that I feel that these books are being repeated.

I loved this book. It was a great escape for me. The world-building is so inventive and well done. Toren and Simone's story is full of heart and action. Her precocious daughter brought a smile to my face often. I received an advanced copy of this book and freely leave this honest review.
