Another cattle drive story. While Mase Durst and his crew are off taking 2,400 longhorns from Texas to Kansas his wife Katie, their son and some of the ranch hands are continuing to work the ranch. Lots of problems at the home ranch as a bigger rancher (Harning) wants their ranch for himself. By using the law, blackmail, hiring gunslingers, he thinks he can scare Katie into selling. But if that doesn’t work has men hired to kill Mase. The cattle drive has the usual flash floods, cougars, Indians, rustlers and other problems that all cattle drives seem to have in every western book. This one has an interest twist with a long lost big brother. Overall, the book is okay, have read better and have read a lot worse.

This might be the best one in the series. Mase Durst is forced to take the Red Trail on the drive to Wichita, Kansas. He faces many obstacles on the way ranging from a hired killer, who is on the drive, a crooked town, Indians, weather, and rustlers. Mase also reunites with his brother, whom he has not seen for five years. Meanwhile, back on the ranch, his wife and child face an evil rancher, who is doing everything to get the Durst ranch for himself.

another masterpiece. This book helped me get back to daily reading habit. Great storyline. The story flows so well. I highly recommend it
