As if by a miracle, Eli gets a spaceship named Night Stalker and wants to explore the galaxy. It seems like fun, but there's one slight problem—miracles don’t happen. Advanced Gaian technology dominates the universe, and it is known as the GAME. Using it without authorization to materialize Night Stalker is prohibited and makes Eli an intergalactic fugitive. As if that were not enough, at the whims and vagaries of Gaian politics, he becomes entangled in an intergalactic conspiracy to steal the leading-edge machinery. Game on! What's a little exploration without all-powerful alien authorities, space battles, and a suicide mission to save the girl? Plunge into the epic Book I of the Midas Touch trilogy—if you're a fan of Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy, you'll love this space opera adventure. this book contains some strong language and graphical depictions of violence.
I liked this story and found there to be a lot of well-written action and character interactions that were exciting and engaging. This book also introduces you to the massive world in which the story takes place.
David, Eli, Sarah, Ruke, Aura, Nox, and several other characters are very believable and pull you into the story. I ended up reading this book well into the night without realizing it. It’s a science fiction story but not something you’ve read before. It gets very exciting, especially near the end, and you can tell the author put a lot of time into the story because there are no holes in the plot. The characters do what they need to do and never do anything strange to make the pieces fit.
There are a lot of characters to meet, and the world is highly detailed. A few times I needed to go back and reread about some of the characters, but for the most part, they stick with you even after you finished. I’ve found myself thinking about what they will do in the next book.
The author has a great imagination, and I’ve read that this is his first work, which is pretty amazing, and I’m sure we’ll get a lot more even better books to come in this series. I’m definitely going to read the next one.
The use of a flashback for the opening scene may be an overused troupe when not done well, but Sergey Ilyn has nailed it. Readers are pulled into the story within seconds as they imagine the chaos of the storm-threatened pilots. The world within Midas Touch is so real readers can reach out and touch it, even when the main character, Eli, leaves behind Earth for the unknown.
Ilyn’s characters are diverse and interesting, and importantly, not copies of characters you’ve already seen on the SYFY channel. The author has created a world of his own with Midas Touch. It’s the perfect time to curl up with a novel far away from reality- this book should be in your to-read stack!
The Midas Touch is an action-packed, sci-fi book that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced read full of adventure. I personally enjoyed the second half more, once the characters had been properly established and developed, and became interested in the mini romances that were being hinted at! I'm intrigued to see how the series develops further, especially regarding what is eventually going to happen with Eli and the Game!
