First sentence: I was in my early twenties when a couple of new friends invited me to a Bible study.

Angie Smith's newest book, Woven, sets out to tell the big picture story of the Bible in a reader-friendly, super-accessible way. The intended audience she has in mind are those that are new--even completely new--to the Bible. To folks who might not know there is an Old Testament or a New Testament. To those who may not know that there are sixty-six books in the Bible. To those who may not know wh

"Not only is the Bible one story, it’s a story you are now a part of."

I really enjoy reading books/studies by Angie Smith. She is funny and light hearted, but there is also plenty of content to digest. My firsts experience with Angie Smith was her Bible study, Seamless. If you have not read that study, I highly recommend going through it. You will see the same theme in her newest book, Woven. In this book, Smith teaches that the Bible is one big story, from Genesis to Revelation. We often do not

I was blown away by the bible study Angie Smith did, Seamless. I loved her transparency, her humor, and the way she put things together for people that did not grow up in church and/or if they did how to tie things together from Old Testament and New. Likewise, I appreciated her use of visual aids with maps, pictures, and other tools to help bring these stories to life.

Furthermore, I enjoyed this book as the author continues the same style of writing and teaching about how bible characters relat

Angie Smith writes with humor and heart. As you read her book, it reads as if you are chatting with a friend.

“That’s because the Bible is unlike any other book in all the world.... It’s a library of books. It’s made up of historical accounts and spiritual instruction and handwritten letters and—just some outright beautiful writing—prophecy, poetry, praise songs, personal conversations.”
“The books of the Bible are not entirely in order... Who is up to the task of reading a sixty-six-volume set (

I wasn’t familiar with Angie Smith before this book, but her warm, open style of writing drew me in from the very first pages, inviting me to explore with her and dive deeper into the Big Story of Scripture. Love for God and others drips from the pages, welcoming friends old and new into the study of God’s word without pretense. Her words draw me in and make me eager to see more of the vision she has uncovered. Angie has a way with words and an understanding of Scripture that will be a blessing ...more

Reading Angie Smith’s Woven is like sitting down and having a cup of coffee with a girlfriend while leaning in for a really good story. As a new believer, I completed Angie’s Seamless Bible study and her new release Woven is the perfect follow up, getting deeper into the Word. I have loved Angie Smith's writing since her blog back in the day. I have read many of her other books since then, but I think this one would have to be my favorite.

First of all, the macrame on the cover is textured! (Isn't this cover gorgeous?). Also, this book delivers exactly what the tagline says: understanding the Bible as one seamless story. This book is great for believers and non-believers as it goes through an overview of many famous Bible stories and characters (and some less famous on

I love to read, and this is one book that you must add to your collection. I have read all of Angie Smith's books and bible studies and this one, BY FAR, is the best!!! Angie will take you on a narrative journey through the Bible and she will bring together both the Old and New Testament right before your eyes. Angie has a gift for telling a story so that you actually feel as it is happening "right before your eyes" and it is one of her best gifts! Prepare to laugh, shed a tear, and be amazed as ...more

I love this book! It goes through the full story of the Bible and focuses on the metanarrative of scripture, the thread of God’s love and plan from Genesis to Revelation. This book reminded me of the old saying “not seeing the forest from the trees” because people can sometimes focus on particular sections of the Bible and miss the larger story. I think this book does a wonderful job focusing on the big story. It’s great for new/young believers to learn God’s big story and it’s great for longtim ...more

Angie Smith has a way with words. She takes the different chapters of the bible and shows how they "weave" together and flow. Throughout the book, the books that I have been reading for a long time came alive and I also learned some new things. Angie's writing is very fun, energetic, and she has a way of helping you see the bigger picture. I recommend this to anyone who thought the Bible was too overwhelming as this book is a great help.

Thank you to B&H Publishing Group, and Netgalley for my ad

I recently started another study about the life of Jesus, also by Angie. As I was reading I realized there was some background knowledge I needed to better understand his story. Mainly from the old testament. About the same time, I saw this book and got an advanced copy. I love how Angie explains everything so simply so I am not caught up in the scholar of the bible but in the stories and how the bible is woven together. She uses her wit and humor to make studying the bible enjoyable and not so ...more

I love this overview of God's Word! The author also "weaves" humor in, which is nice. It even has maps in among the chapters, though I couldn't see them because I have an advance e-copy from NetGalley--guess I'll have to get the real thing! ;)
This book is simple enough for beginning Bible readers, but interesting enough for long time readers such as myself.
Thank you for the advance copy! I really appreciate it. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

In "Woven" Angie Smith does a fantastic job of showing the interconnectedness of all the stories of the Bible. Using her trademark humor and transparency, she makes the Bible come alive and reveals the thread weaving it all together. While there wasn't a whole lot in the study that I haven't heard before, I think this would be a really wonderful book for a new believer or someone who hasn't spent much time studying God's Word.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Angie Smith seamlessly weaves the big picture of the Bible together in this book. With her humor, she teaches the reader about the thread that connects each story and book in the Bible. Although I am not the target audience for this book, I would highly recommend it to new believers or those who are new to reading the Bible.

Thank you Netgalley for an advanced reader's copy. These opinions are my own.

Angie Smith has once again helped me fall in love with the Old Testament in her new book Woven. She is a captivating author who draws you in with humor, knowledge and clarity. She is real and her writing makes it easy for all to understand. This book would be a fabulous read for a new believer, but also is insightful for those who have been reading the Bible for years. I would highly recommend this book!

I love reading books by Angie Smith. Seamless & Matchless were 2 of my favorites but, Woven is by far my favorite now. Angie brought us deeper this time & still made me laugh. I had so many aha moments! I’m no stranger to my Bible, I’ve read it cover to cover many times but, Angie shines a bright light weaving everything together. I love reading my Bible & Woven made that even better. Thank you Angie Smith for listening to the Holy Spirit.

I loved every second of reading this book. It is a wonderful resource for people of all experience levels. The Bible as a whole can be very intimidating, so if you're looking for something to simplify the whole story, this is the perfect book. I love this book!!

I love this book! Angie Smith has a special gift when it comes to helping you look at more the Bible differently. As one story, not a bunch of disjointed things put together in one book. For me, the way Angie explains the Bible, infusing her special brand of humor, actually helps better put together the prophecies and where they are fulfilled, and makes me feel closer to God then ever before. It’s very special.

Wow. Just such an incredible perspective on the Bible as a whole. She goes from genesis to revelation and shows how the stories are “woven” together. I really enjoyed her writing style though a few of her jokes did hit me funny at times. I can easily overlook that because of the enjoyment of the story of the Bible. I highly recommend this. I think it would be especially great for a new follow of Christ.

I love Angie Smith’s books and Bible Studies. Woven provides an excellent overview of the Bible. This book would be great for new believers, but even as someone who has grown up studying the Bible I was still moved by the reminder that the Bible is a story of “God’s pursuing love. Irresistible. Unstoppable. A story of rebellion that he gracefully transformed (and continues to transform) into a story of redemption.”

One of my favorite books of the year! This book is needed in this post Christian/ Bible illiterate culture. Angie Smith brings the story of the Bible to life and connects the dots in world history with Biblical history. This is an easy read. Smith doesn’t assume the reader knows they Bible and gives confidence to the reader that the entire Bible is worth reading. She champions the truth that all of scripture is important!
Megan Caillouet
3.5-3.75 stars. Overall detailed descriptions that make the Bible easy to understand. Although, the author left a lot up to the reader to remember while also trying to retain a lot of information — making connections to previous books in the Bible but never actually explaining the connection. I liked Angie Smith’s writing style, but some comments/jokes she made throughout the book were almost like outbursts and made no sense to the context of the chapter.
