Evil is closer than you think.

Psychologist, Mollie Roark, had it all. A hotshot husband, a beautiful daughter, a successful career, and a fancy house on the Napa hillside. She'd finally made it. Left her troubled past and her crazy father far behind her.

But two years ago, the unspeakable happened. Her daughter's burned body turned up on the shores of Lake Berryessa just da

Shadows Among Us by Ellery Kane
First off I have to say that I am a HUGE fan of Ellery's writing and especially her Doctors of Darkness series! This book did not disappoint in any way, the characters were fleshed out and relatable and leave you feeling like you know them and are there in the story. What a story it is! Dakota is a teenager who sees something that she cannot unsee and it leaves her feeling that she cannot tell her mother Mollie, Mollie is going through serious stress of her own wi

If you love Psychological stories then this one will blow your mind and keep you on your toes for sure. And nothing is given away it honestly keeps you wondering who done it throughout. I received this book in exchange for an honest review. It will in no way impact my thoughts.

Every time I need something this author pops up with a new book. I've been in the mood for creepy reads and then I get an email for this! I swear I think Ellery Kane can read my mind.

I've been following this author pretty much from the beginning and let me tell you, this is her best work! She improves so much every book that I'm always blown away and this one is no exception!

I received an advance review copy of this book, lucky me as I Love everything she has written and gobbled this one up as well. plot very interesting, the main characters very relatable, while i was gripped by it the word ordinary kept coming to me, now this is nothing ordinary about this book but maybe just because it could be you or me, or my best friend that this was happening to. many important issues raised, heartbreaking and powerful

Shadows Among Us was amazing, loved it! This thriller about a serial killer will keep you on the verge of your seat until the amazing ending. This is the second book I read by this Author and her writing is amazing. I loved the characters, they have flesh, you can feel them. I really enjoyed the epilogue, I left me surmising my own ending. Very good and a lot of fun.

I give Shadows Among Us 5 stars for its twisty and thrilling read.
I would recommend this book to Thriller Fans.

Very haunting and tragic mystery thriller. Dr. Molly is still trying to survive her daughter's murder when suddenly everything she thought she knew comes into question. A touching scary tale of how nothing is ever as it seems.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

First, I want to thank Ellery Kane for providing me this book so I may bring you this review.

Ellery Kane’s Shadows Among Us is her best book to date. It is a must-read book. The storyline is ripped from the headlines. This is one book that must be made into a movie! It would be a blockbuster!

This book tackles a lot of important issues. This being said some of these issues may be triggers for some readers. This book focuses on mental illnesses, PTSD, alcoholism, physical abuse, infidelity, rape

I’ve read every stand alone Doctors of Darkness book in the series and Shadows Among Us has got to be the deepest and most jarring of them all. The writing, as always, was perfection. The characters were developed so well, I found myself hurting with them.
Dr. Mollie Roark is a broken woman after the loss of her only teenage daughter to the Shadow Man. Her downward spiral and self destruction as well as her hunger for justice and hunt for revenge, was page turning. Her crazy father, her childhoo

With this book I found that when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it! The characters with all their flaws and issues seem so real. Mollie, a psychologist and mother had a daughter who was murdered by the shadow man, a serial killer. I kept changing my mind as to who I thought might be the shadow man. It switches back and forth from before the murder to the current time 2 years later when we see how devastating the murder is for Mollie. She needs closure. The book is well written and has ...more

Some books you are reluctant to put down when reading them. This one I was reluctant to pick up because the subject matter of the death of a child and implosion of a marriage colored the entire beginning of the story. I am happy that I stuck with it because the story was well told and fascinating. I found I could really relate to the Viet Nam veterans in the cast of characters. As the plot develops, a number of very interesting and realistic characters emerge. Some of the characters that were re ...more

As with previous books in this series, this story starts off slowly and a little confusing, but stick with it. It gets exciting and suspenseful. The characters are so disfunctional, they're difficult to like. Their actions and behaviors aren't always realistic, but they are plausible and make sense within the context of the story.

Kristin James gives distinctive voices to the characters, but her attempt at a Spanish accent is a total failure. Otherwise, her performance is quite satisfactory.

This is the first book I read by Ellery Kane and I was very positively surprised. The book covers the horrors of the Vietnam war and the mental problems caused by the atrocities seen and done during that time and at the same time develops the plot/action regarding the murders of 17 girls in a most horrific manner. It also shows the difficulties imposed on a family relationship when there is betrayal, lies and alcoholism and how a teenager deals with it. It´s interesting to see how the story deve ...more

I enjoyed reading this story. It is an emotional side to it and shows how some people struggle in a way you would never guess they do. Mollie is bound and determined to find the person who wrecked her life by killing her daughter. There are different POVs in this story, which helped the storyline accomplish what it set out to do. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Hidden Gems.

I want to give this a 3.5. Shadows Among Us is a good story line with interesting characters. The books is told from Molly and Dakota's perspectives. I felt it moved way to slow for my taste, which made it hard for me to finish. I struggled to stick with it.

You already know the outcome from the beginning, but he author takes you to the past and to the present while trying to figure out who killed Mollie Roark’s daughter Dakota. There was a lot of turmoil in the house between Dakota’s parents and she was trying to figure out who the Shadow Man Killer was with a group of online sleuths. Raising a teenager is sometimes hard, but even harder being a teen. Peer pressure. Wanting to fit in.
Mollie and Cole face a parent's worst nightmare. Losing their teenage daughter to The Shadow Man, a serial killer.
Dakota took special interest in serial killers.  Her one goal was to solve the case of who was portraying to be The Shadow Man. Little did she know that would be her downfall.
The Shadow Man will keep you on the edge of your seat with unexpected turn of events as Dakota tries to unveil

Twists and turns keep the pages flying!

Fantastic, 5 Stars Plus, grips you from the beginning, extremely well-written book. The story is written from the viewpoint of a mother and also her 15-year-old daughter, the victim of a serial killer. You feel the raw implosion of a woman's life as the story switches between before and after the unimaginable, gut-wrenching, horrific murder. Mollie Roark is a Psychologist, but she can't help herself after her fifteen year old daughter, Dakota, is brutally murdered. Everyone thinks that her killer is the elusive Shadow Man and Mollie is determined to discover his identity. But, in Mollie's own words, "I'm a chip off the old cuckoo block." Mollie has fallen into a deep depression, coupled with alcohol abuse, and just might be crazier than her father.

Mollie's father suffers the demons of PTSD from the Vietnam War and Mollie has long gi

Painful to read, Hard to explain.

I have read the first three books in the Doctors of Darkness series, and expected another thrilling read. Alas, by the third chapter, I knew that this fourth book in the series was not going to live up to my expectations. I have truly enjoyed Miss Kane's choices of subjects and situations in the past, and her style of writing, even the humor that sneaks in from left field. Her books have always left me eagerly awaiting the next one. While the subject matter was q

Dr. Mollie Roark lost her teenage daughter to the Shadow Man. This has taken everything away from her as she losses herself and starts to focus on finding the Shadow Man and making him pay. At the same time we follow along with Dakota, Mollie’s daughter as she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is another great addition to the Doctor’s of Darkness series. Mollie had one heck of a childhood but rose above it to become a great psychologist. I don’t blame her for taking Dakota’

Wow! A gift bestowed upon us readers :)

An original take on the serial killer theme, this book is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Mollie Roark is destroyed after the loss of her daughter, Dakota. She is barely functioning day to day, engaging in self destructive behavior to deal with guilt and numb the pain. The only thing that keeps her going is the need to find out who killed her daughter.

Throughout the book, we also hear Dakota's point of view from prior to her disappearance. With so much dra

I've always been a fan of Ellery's writing, even though psychological thrillers typically aren't my goto genre! I think this one might be her best yet, although I really loved the last one in the series as well. Dr. Roarke (female) could really be anyone that has lost someone in a tragic way, lost her marriage, and really doubts anyone around her. I liked her because she was real - she didn't make stupid decisions that put her in the situation she was in, and wasn't living her life a certain way ...more

Having read this author before I was quick in opening this one up. This also happens to be the season perfect for reading such as this. Evil and terror are ones that you make sure you are wrapped up good in a blankie for courage lol. This one also will pull at your heart and make you sit up straighter at times. Mollie is one that you just keep following due to her tribulations. This one is a deep one that will have you scratching your head at times but you really want answers too. I do not know ...more

Hard to rate

This one gave me pause in rating. The story line deserves a solid 5. Nothing could be better than a Mother seeking revenge for her daughter's death. Especially when law enforcement gives their standard "we're working on it". What brought the rating down was the length of time it took for said Mother ( a trained psychologist) to get her stuff together, fight her own demons and get on with the task at hand. The story will keep you reading, but at times will become mundane.
