This book is VERY USA centric. It might be good or even decent should it talked about practical philosophy or approach that's new regarding one's financial life regardless of where they are and what stage of life someone's in. But nope, I simply see no value in this book except for USA citizen. And even by that standard, there's still a better book like Your Money or Your Live and I Will Teach You to Be Rich.

Really helped me understand benefits and investing accounts available at my new job. Not all was applicable to me, but I was able to hop around and find what was! Written in a way that was very easy to understand ( I knew very little finance vocabulary).

I don't have much of a framework for personal finance outside of the basics so it defined a lot of the common jargon on personal finance and just gave a lot of good rules of thumbs about home buying, budgeting, investments, taxes etc. It also just gives a lot of helpful links/sites that can be used as tools in those areas going forward. Very helpful and interesting read!

This book has its merits, offering valuable insights into finance. However, not all the approaches and topics are universally applicable, as it leans towards a US-centric perspective. Fortunately, I did find some helpful alternatives based to my country's context when I was getting my finance course before. On the whole, I'd rate it a 3, though I do have a preference for Ramit's books, which cover similar ground. Nevertheless, I still recommend this book, especially if you're just starting to explore the fundamentals of finance.

Some useful information is held in this book, but most of the advice and primers are too broad to be incredibly helpful for anyone who is just getting into exploring how to best manage their finances. In addition, there are many terms and phrases that were not defined to the reader, so confusion and Google searching are likely inevitable if you choose to use this book as a starting book for finance. You're probably better off looking into the "Dummies" series of books on financial management. If you're looking for a refresher on appropriate usage of your assets, this book could set you right. It's short, and it reads smoothly. Give it a shot if it sounds valuable to you.

Bunch of useful information around personal finance and budgeting. You will not find a lot about investing here. The book is also heavily US centric so if you live outside of US, no more than 20% of the information will be useful to you.

Cuốn sách Personal Finance 101: From Saving and Investing to Taxes and Loans, an Essential Primer on Personal Finance (Adams 101) là một cuốn sách hữu ích cho những ai muốn có kiến thức về tài chính cá nhân.

This book had a great overview that would be terrific for a young person starting out - I would highly recommend this to anyone graduating high school or college. From student loans to marriage/babies (even divorce), it covers the life cycle of personal finance.

Two things I wish it had:

* Charts or graphs for the specific dollar amounts. Many people don't like reading personal finance books because the numbers don't really "sink in" when they read. Seeing graphs or charts really solidifies concepts like interest and loan payment/amortization.

* A different order of chapters. The topics start off seemingly with the assumption that people have debt, and refer to taking loans from a 401k (without, I feel, adequately stressing what a horrible idea this is) without explaining what a 401k is. In their life cycle of chapters, the person reading it doesn't even have a job yet.

I also did not see where things like appreciating vs depreciating goods was mentioned (such as a house vs a car, for example).

Otherwise, fantastic book and I would recommend it.

3.5 stars, rounded down.

I read this mostly cause I'm really trying to get budgeting down now that I'm getting close to going full time at my job and personal Finance confuses the hell out of me once you move beyond the basic checking/savings account. I think this book is written in a way that a lot of it is relatively easy to understand, but I also feel like it's written like a primer of everything involved. You'd probably need specific books on things like home ownership and investing to actually fully understand them.

I gave it 3 stars mostly because it is a primer so now I have some idea of what else I should be researching as I try to get fully into adulting.

This book has been a great help to me personally in the advice and help offered for financial success, awareness, and goal setting.

Finance 101 has a great wealth of knowledge and financial resources throughout the book that can be used to lead you to be aware financially and as a consumer when dealing with your finances and debt. This includes calculating and being aware of your net worth, setting financial goals and methods to stick with them, and even savings plans, and more.

I will say this books does overlap some with “Budgeting 101” but you could also think of it as reinforcement of important concepts.

This book is amazing! I am about to graduate and I found this super helpful to learn basic financial tips as I become more independent.

This book covers helpful topics like budgeting, investing (includes stocks, bonds, and mutual funds), mortgages, loans, retirement plans like Roth IRAs and 401ks, salary negotiation, and many more. I learned so much from this book. This is a must read for students and young people in their 20s/30s.

This book is any easy 10/10. I learned so much from reading it. It has helped me feel a lot more prepared for my financial future.

Truly a primer on personal finance. This book covers the basic info and good rules of thumb for all kinds of different topics needed by people in different life stages. I was appreciative to listen to it because you don’t know what you just don’t know. 🤷‍♀️

I particularly liked that Mill brought forward specific names of websites, funds, companies, etc. that are good places to start looking if you live in the US.

Personal Finance 101 is a really good introductory reference if you don't know much about managing finances. It explains lots of financial terms and lists pros and cons of different retirement and savings strategies. It also gives lots of examples that are pretty clear and easy to follow. This book is too simple for someone who is doing a deep dive into the world of finances, but for a regular person who just needs some terms clarified and some examples given, it's a great tool.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It gives you a really good primer into all financial topics and even the parts that I hope will never apply to me, like bankruptcy, were interesting to learn about. This book could easily be great reading for young adults or teens. Compounding interest is so important!!

Read this book to brush up on important Personal Finance Topics for my internship over the summer. It was a bit boring for me because a lot of the content was a reminder for me, but I still would recommend this book for those that want to start from scratch regarding Personal Finance. Although there are more digestiable personal finance books out there to read instead.

This book was very helpful and thorough. I was so glad to find an up-to-date guide on finances. I worked in a credit union a few years ago, so I know a lot of the rules from 6+ years ago. It was great to get caught up.

This is a super-informative, but super-dry reading about personal finance.

It's also very U.S.-centric, and while still useful for a U.K. based individual like myself, certain chapters were more geared to U.S. specific situations (like Retirement accounts, etc)

Just a rehash of the same old, same old.
If you have studied budgeting at all, you have already heard all of this.
If you are new to budgeting, get something more comprehensive. These are just tidbits and likely won't be helpful.

This is the first book I have read from the "101" series. Personal Finance 101 was a good read that was helpful to think through. I wish it provided some more details at certain points, but it is just an introductory level book.

Really US-centric. There is no particular interesting information one can get when being an European. Fought with trying to read it for quite some time, didn't finish, always facing that is really US specific
