Experiences of "Fresh-Air Fund" kids from inner city NY during their 2 summer weeks in Amish country in the late 1970s. The most devastating insight comes right at the end as the author is riding the bus back into the worst neighborhoods in NYC with the kids. "These intelligent children already know the truth of their situation. Not so much that they expect better, but that they realize they deserve better. Coming home is the beginning of a lifelong outrage."
