I'm a big fan of the author's work-she is able to bring characters and stories to life through short prose. I imagine the doors her accessible format has opened for reluctant readers (my own son used her first novel Second in Command to 'kick start his renewed love of reading).
This book will speak to those in middle or high school who feel left out, alone and just plain "don't fit in". Never preachy, Van nails the panic and isolation that popularity and ostracization that age can create. The end

A hi-low read for reluctant readers, Listen Up is a novel in verse about how one student uses online videos to speak his truth. When Lucas begins recording, he only seeks to explain the problems he sees in his high school. But when his videos have more damaging effects, Lucas must try to use his voice to make amends. Lacks depth and is resolved neatly and quickly. Fine for middle school and low readers.

This book is for young reluctant readers and those who struggle with reading. The story is also told in prose - very impressive use of language. Great story with a Pump Up The Volume feel!
