We knew each other a lifetime ago. And then...

We lost childhoods. We lost opportunities. We lost love.

Fate is giving us another chance. But a chance at what?

Because even though we’ve been brought back to each other under the worst of circumstances…

We are still. So. Damn. Lost.

Author of romance novels such as Fleeting and Love at First Fight, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. Her stories are fueled by vanilla lattes, meloncholy music, and copious amounts of candles.

When she isn't writing, Carrie is busy binging reality TV, having a love/hate relationship with cardio, and trying not to burn dinner. She lives in farm country with her husband, two children and ninety-pound rescue pup.

I am at a loss of words. This book is so different from any of Aaron’s other books, I was taken by surprise. Lost is something that I never saw coming.

The imagery, emotion and angst radiate from the pages and holds the reader captive. I absolutely love that this author has journeyed into new territory and made it her bitch.

As with all of Aaron’s books, the characters are well developed and relatable. You can identify and bond with them from the very first page. Aarons takes a typical boy next door romance and turns it on it’s head. No flowers and sweet, swoon-worthy late night stolen kisses here. There is grit and suspense and a struggle to move forward; and Aarons does it flawlessly.

I am purposefully being vague because I was so shocked by this story line and I want you to be as well. I don’t think it’s fair to ruin the fun.

I am ready to be Found in book two because this cliffy is sweet torture.

Beware of Spoilers!

Star Ratings:
Heroine (Char): 25yrs old – 2/5
Hero (Tucker): 26yrs old – 1/5
Plot: 1/5
Grovel: I didn’t believe or trust in the H’s apology to the h
Cheating: the h reminisces about all the girls he has made out with WHEN HE IS ABOUT TO KISS THE HEROINE, and there are plenty of reminders of his sexual activities with others
HEA: cliffhanger
Triggers: H is a heroin addict (I wish I had known this before reading because drug use is a hard-no for me but the h drew me in)

Average score: 1.5/5

Best Line: none

Worst Line: almost every single line!

Personal Review:
Such a pathetic co-dependent couple…a girl who has been hooked on a guy who is an asshole to her for almost 20 years! And the guy is a fucking heroin addict who kidnaps her and threatens to kill her.

I am going to read the second book because I hate cliffhangers

Random Ramblings:
•The h was stupid for not calling police/ambulance when he was going through withdrawal
•Both the h and H need a slap – the H for his drug use and the h for her pathetic excuses to stay with him
•When they kissed I couldn’t get the image of the H out of my mind with this description the h gave:
“His once boyishly handsome face is now gaunt, his cheeks sunken in from what I suspect is malnutrition. His eyes are glassy and his coloring is pale, his lips chapped. And there are two prominent sores on either side of his mouth, puss and blood oozing from them.”

This is gross purely from a hygiene perspective!

•Also, the H was such an ass that he never gave the h an orgasm

Overall Feeling:

Char: “I’m a glutton for punishment”

4 stars!!

This one really kept me on the edge of my seat. The author really kept throwing me curve balls and I had no clue what was coming next.

Char is a lonely banker and Tucker is the resident bad boy.

The book starts off with a huge bang and there was no way that there was going to be any redemption from Tucker.

As the book flows though you get a peek into his head and why he is the way he is. You also get glimpses of them as children, where their story began.

I ended up really liking both characters. Char was fiery when need be and Tucker really did have a heart under all that badness.

I really really need book 2 asap. The ending killed me.

One thing I would say that as much as I love this cover (so hot), I'm not sure it really matches up with Tucker. I judged the book by it's cover and went in expecting one thing and got something different.

Lost is book one in the Captive Heart Duet, and my thoughts and emotions are all over the place!

Very seldom do I feel so conflicted with a story line. The book starts in a clear, straight-forward direction...and being completely honest here, I wasn't liking it. I was confused and frustrated. With the events that took place at the start, I was beginning to doubt how this story was going to progress. The only parts that I was enjoying at this point was the flashbacks of the relationship the characters had with each other. And by characters, I mean two...Charlotte and Tucker. That's it. The entire story focuses on their time "reconnecting", to put it vaguely without spoiling the story. On one page, they're tender and caring towards each other. Then on the next, they're cruel and spiteful.
Charlotte had so many repressed emotions and feelings towards Tucker. I wanted to shake her, yell at her, and even slap her to get her to express how she truly felt. And Tucker...he was such a prick. From the way he treated Charlotte in the past, to the circumstances that brought them together again...he would've received a knee to the groin and punch to the face for acting the way he did, and for the man he became. This book made me turn violent with angst.
But as time passes in the story, it started to finally turn around and make me wonder what could possibly happen next. The build up of anticipation is what I think drove the rest of the story forward. I began to feel compassion towards the situation in which Char and Tucker were in. I wanted everything to work out, but knew in the back of my mind that it would be morally wrong. I had so many questions, and no answers. So by the end, I was completely invested with the outcome. I need to know what happens!
Overall, the book was a hit and miss for me. Certain details and realistic aspects didn't sit well with me, but the writing style was fantastic. It may have started out very rocky, and the thought of not being able to finish was looming. But there was an underlying curiosity I had that prevented me from giving up. And I can honestly say that I'm glad I didn't. I'm really anxious now as to what could possibly come next for Char and Tucker!

LOST took me by surprise from page one, not just due to the open synopsis, but because of how Carrie Aaron's took a story that could have fallen flat and made it very unique. The twists are endless, the drama is high from the get go and it's definitely a heavy read. I often get burnt out on a book that is so intense, so go go go without a feeling of hope, but the story is weaved seamlessly, giving you bits and pieces to add up to a whole and it is so hard to put down. It was so easy to form an opinion about the characters and the storyline, but then another twist hit that changed my opinions. It definitely made me question the difference between rights and wrongs, as well as the gray area between. From forgiveness to choices, LOST covered some pretty hard-hitting topics, but was written with a lot of grace. It was so detailed, very easy to get into both character's minds, and flowed very well. There was a lot of character development, especially with the changing timeline and it is one of the few cases where I didn't mind a bit that it ended in a cliffhanger and would recommend to everyone.

There is a lot of emotion in LOST, both for the main characters and for the reader to experience. I felt so torn about who Tucker was as an adult, as well as who he was in Charlotte's life. I definitely tried to keep my opinions of their past away from my overall opinion, but it weighed on my mind as I got to know them. Then there's the anticipation as these two deal with less than ideal circumstances that toss them together long term. I couldn't guess what would happen next and it brought up a lot of moral questions for me, as well as made me think in a way I had never had to before. I love a book that makes me think, but I totally wasn't expecting it.

Carrie Aaron's write in an incredibly emotive way and this book totally wrapped me up in its story. It was so unique, which is why my review was kept as vague as possible. I cannot wait to see what takes place in book two in the Lost & Found duet.

Lost by Carrie Aarons is book one in the Captive Heart Duet and does end in a cliffhanger - you have been warned but don't let that stop you from enjoying book one now! Lost is so many things but at the heart it's a second chance love story between two people who have known and longed for each other their entire lives. What would you do if you longed for one person your entire life? Would you give them a piece even though you it could break you? Would time let you forget them?

Charlotte "Char" Morsey goes through every day without living her life. As a child she did everything her mother wanted her to do and even though Charlotte excelled at school and hobbies she never fit in. Never in the popular crowd and always teased by classmates and neighbourhood kids but when it came to Tucker, her neighbour, she craved him for as long as she could remember. High school to College now in the professional world of banking feeling like a ghost, no friends to speak of, no real connections. Tucker Lynch has hit rock bottom, a college injury ruined his shot at the big leagues and his family hasn't been in the picture since. Desperate people do desperate things but reconnecting with Charlotte this way wasn't his plan. When does true love ever follow a plan?

Mixed emotions and longing is what Carrie Aarons has left me with. Lost is completely original and addictive - I dare you to try and put it down - I couldn't. These characters push each other's buttons and test limits but their chemistry together is undeniable. I did shaked my head a lot while reading this book and that's not a bad thing. I couldn't guess what was going to happen. I was constantly wondering how Tucker and Charlotte would come out the other side. It's a beautiful thing when I'm stumped and can't guess an ending. I've read everything that Carrie has written to date and with each novel she raises the bar. I can't wait for the next installment and what Carrie has planned for us down the road. 5 Massive Stars for Lost by Carrie Aarons

Mon avis en Français

My English review

I liked the Carrie Aarons series I discovered not long ago, and I was curious to discover another one of her writings. The release of the complete Captive Heart duology perfectly allowed me to do so.

Tucker and Charlotte have known each other since they were little, yet life has separated them and not in the best possible way. But while Charlotte now works in a bank, she doesn’t expect to be robbed and kidnapped by this man she knew so well in the past and loved more than anything. But he has changed, he is no longer the man he was and she will do everything to help him.

I had a good time with the book. The story is quite incongruous I must say and quite unlikely credible, but I had a good time with our two heroes. The author allows us to move from one to the other while offering us chapters on their past in order to understand exactly what happened. Tucker and Charlotte will finally be able to discuss and try to move forward from their past, even if the situation is not ideal. And what about this end? I’m glad to have the rest to find out how they’re going to manage!

Lost is completely different and wonderfully unique. When we meet the hero, Tucker, he isn’t the beautiful poster boy he once was. Instead he is an unwashed, homeless addict with sores on his mouth. And he has hit the lowest of lows which leaves him on the lamb with Charlotte a girl from his past who is now his hostage. I mean if that doesn’t scream READ ME I don’t know what does.

‘I’m an addict. I have an addictive personality. And instead of drugs and alcohol. I’ve replaces those toxic substances with the noises that Char makes when I drive into her.’

There are several things I think that Carrie Aaron did exceptionally well. First off is the backstory felt completely believable. It was a case of teenage infatuation and Tucker acted like a typical teenage boy in lust. I know some might not like how he treated the Charlotte, the beautiful but nerdy girl. But for me with him being a popular jock it made sense, I didn’t like it but it made sense. Second, I loved how Charlotte has matured and aged. She doesn’t just roll over and yet she also cannot deny the pull Tucker has had over her since they were children. Lastly, she made sure not everything came to them easily. I feel like they worked to get where they are and in that process they reconnected and slowly developed feelings. It wasn’t a case of being trapped together for two days then they are going at it. The build up was fantastic and had me on edge constantly. I was sucked in from the first page and unable to stop till the last.

‘This is what love it. It’s hard, insane, dirty and completely frustrating. But it’s also incredible, wonderful, awe-inducing and completely freeing.’

Now this is a duet so of course you know that mean CLIFFY, but it’s one you see coming so it’s not totally shocking. Still I am more than a little curious how the author plans on getting these two out of this mess and am completely eager to get my hands on Found and some answers.

***4.5 Stars***

Lost is the first book in the Captive Heart Series and what a way to start. This is definitely not your ordinary love story. It is however about second chances and figuring out what two people truly want out of life.

Charlotte has a very mundane kind of life. She is a twenty-five year old credit analyst that goes through the motions. Always has. She grew up doing what she was expected and hated it. The only thing she loved growing up was her books and the boy next door. She could always count on her books but the boy was a totally different story. And sooner than she ever thought possible, she will add to their story...

Charlotte got to work early at the bank, as usual. She was alone until a man came through the doors and that's when her life was turned upside down. She realized right then that she hadn't lived. And now he was back. Tucker. The boy next door. He was now a man but he didn't look like the same person. He looked lost. Unhealthy. Mean. What happened to the Tucker she once knew and loved? Well...she is about to find out, if she wanted to or not.

Charlotte and Tucker are and always were complete opposites. She didn't have friends and he was the most popular boy in school. And it looks like they are still living on the opposite sides of each other except it's for different reasons. They used to be secret friends, hiding away from everyone else. But, now they will have the chance to get to know one another again without interruption, outside influence, and judgement. Will they find love again or will they find that they never had it?

This story is unique in the way that brings them back together. I love second chance love stories, and this was a great one. They were both lost. She was lost in her mundane existence and he was lost in a haze. Will they be found?

I thought Charlotte is pretty kickass. She is strong, protective, loving to a fault, and wants more out of life. She just has to figure out how. And Tucker...oh Tuck, not gonna lie, I wanted to slap him a few times but I also wanted to give him some love. He got to me, that's for sure. Together, it's not always easy but easy isn't always fun. They definitely have their challenges and that is what makes it such a great ride.

Overall...it's a unique, sexy, sassy, and crazy ride. I can't wait for the next book!!

Quote:

“You know what’s harder than having everything ripped away? Never getting anything you want in your entire life. Try that one on for size, Tucker.” She glares at me, her big eyes stony and filled with rage.

“I’m going to make this right.” He throws open the door to my cabin and pulls me inside.

“You were so damn pretty sitting there with a book in your hands. Always with a book in your hands.”

Ahhh, what a sad cliffhanger! I need book 2 right now!
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
I’m excited to start reading this author’s backlist, because although this was my first book of hers, it truly won’t be my last. This book was refreshing and quite different from the usual stories I pick up.

There was an unexpected reunion right off the bat. An encounter that I didn’t think the hero could ever bounce back from. It could’ve gone in many directions, yet as I sit here stewing over the final scene in this first installment, I don’t see how these characters could’ve better navigated it any other way.

A put together, young woman and a junkie falling for one another. There must be some serious history there to make that happen and there definitely was. First impressions are everything, and the hero of this story did not make a good one. I was intrigued to see what he would do next and how our heroine would handle it.

The flashbacks to the character’s childhood & teen lives were a necessity. While I would’ve liked to have seen a bit more interactions from the past, the scenes that made it into the novel displayed an unorthodox relationship. Neither person had a perfect life, yet that was exactly what they thought of each other. Tucker’s headspace was jaded and meek. And those flashbacks allowed me to get a sense of his thoughts and feelings which led him back to Charlotte.

Charlotte and Tucker were both well developed characters, with a lot of chemistry and a push and pull relationship. Char was left with a broken heart, and despite Tucker’s cruel behavior, I could see he really wanted to mend things with her. I could feel his suffering from both his feelings toward her and his withdrawals.

The cover was really deceiving. It is nothing like what the story is. I almost stayed away from it thinking it was another sexy book about a brooding a**hole. Lost is a second chance story of redemption and reconnection with intense pain and struggles.

How will Charlotte & Tucker’s lives play out next? I’m on pins & needles waiting for Carrie Aarons to spill the details in the last installment of this duet.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Gah! This book started with a "Whaaat?" and ended with a "Nooooooooooo!" I'm not sure how to review this book because I don't want to give too much away, but I will do my best.

Growing up, Tucker was Charlotte's next door neighbor, but they never really talked. It was more like mutual admiration (although one didn't know the other felt the same way) from afar. It wasn't until their senior year that they actually started a relationship, albeit a secret one. But then he abruptly left for college and she never heard from him again. Charlotte moves on with her life and even gets engaged, but she never really settles into her life. Meanwhile, Tucker went off to college to play football and seemed to be on track to become a star, but then an injury puts an end to his dreams.

Charlotte goes to her (boring) bank job one morning and gets held up at gunpoint. It turns out she knows the person behind the gun. It's Tucker. When he realizes who she is and what that means, he takes Charlotte hostage and goes on the run.

What follows is a story about two people, who couldn't be more different, come together in less than desirable conditions and rediscover a bond that they thought was long gone. We learn about their past (together and separate) and what led them to where they are today.

It may not be a complete novel (and yes, it ends on a cliffhanger!), but a lot happens in this book. It is a fantastic read that will make you feel all the feelings and leave you wanting more. I have so many questions that I hope will get answered in the next book so bring on Found!

Wow! OMG why did i wait so long to read this book !!!!

Tucker and Charlotte have shared a childhood past, that wasn’t always easy and both have been left tormented and still carry their issues with them. Charlotte now working in a bank and Tucker, well he’s a drug addict, dealing with losing what could have been a superstar career in the NFL. His life now in tatters. And he just happens to walk into Charlotte’s bank with BAD intentions!

I really don’t want to give too much away with this, because this book needs to be read. It’s different and original and fresh! Their journey and ensuing relationship isn’t easy and at times hard to read, but the author has you captivated and you really feel your reading about real people. The twists are endless and the drama is high, but we learn so much about these characters. I really could not tell where this book was going to take me but it hit all the right spots emotionally. I was really surprised by how much this book and this couple captivated me, I really didn’t want to like Tucker, and i failed terribly, I loved him !!!! Yes this was a couple in love, but there wasn’t anything on their side and i couldn’t see how they could ever over come their circumstances. This book does end in a cliffhanger and trust me you will be diving right into the second book.

I love this story so much. It’s so different from what I’ve read of Carrie Aaron’s before and it did not disappoint. This book had me at the edge of my seat thinking they were going to get caught. My heart and emotions where all over the place. At times my heart hurt for Tucker and learning about his addiction and why he did what he did. And other times I felt bad for char and what she had to endure. Them relearning each other and falling back in love while they were in hiding made me swoon. I was scared what the outcome would be for Tucker after everything he did.

The author has an interesting concept here & the writing/story-telling is impressive. For the life of me though, I couldn't find a true connection between me & these two characters. There's a cliffhanger & my curiosity needs to be satisfied so I'm on to book two.

Ok, first of all, I need to disclose that I got the ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review :) you are a sweetheart Carrie, even though you ended this book in a cliffhanger that made me gasp and scream internally... cause it was very late at night when I finished it, so I couldn't scream out loud ;) I can hear your evil cackle from here... ;) but no worries people, the conclusion to this captivating story is only two weeks away :) yes, you read that correctly, only two WEEKS :) now that we have this stuff out of the way, let me tell you more about this story...

Yeah... about that... ;) I need to explain something else... :) it's not easy for me to write this review... and not because I hated the book, quite the opposite :) I really loved it :) but the synopsis is very vague, so I didn't know much before reading this book... and after finishing this story, I have to say that it's really the best way to do it :) so I'm gonna do my best to tell you a little bit more without actually spoiling you the surprises along the way :) so this story revolves around two people, Tucker and Char... they are now both around 25... but they knew each other from a very young age... there is quite a bit of a history between them... and we actually see some of those moments, because there are flashbacks in this story... and they were actually my favourite part :) I loved seeing our main characters at different ages, how they changed and what happened to them along the way... those little scenes here and there really added depth :) but let's go back to the now, shall we? :) their story starts with a bang ;) not literal, but close enough... they are reunited after a few years under very unexpected circumstances... then some actions lead them to spend some time, just the two of them, in the middle of nowhere.. I know, it's super vague, but I can't really say anything more without some major spoilers... so I hope you'll forgive me :) so we have just the two of them over the course of a few months, when we see how the situation changes between them, how they explain some lingering stuff between them to each other and then the book ends with a cliffhanger... but I sort of had a feeling it's gonna be something like that... though it definitely leaves you wanting more... :)

I know that was really vague, but I hope that this last part, where I share with you guys my thoughts and opinions I had throughout reading this book, will help :) I can't quite put my finger on why, but I had troubles getting behind the idea of them spending so much time in that one place... it's not like it was ruining my pleasure of reading this story, I just... I don't know... it was hard for me to get it... so let's just leave it at that and move one... :) but I do understand though why they needed to be alone to truly reconnect... this book has 2 POVs, which I am a huge fan of, especially when it is done right, like in this case :) I loved being able to get inside both of their minds... it really gave me a better perspective to understand them... not to mention the writing style... I only read one other book by Carrie Aarons so far, with all others still on my #BookMountain, and this one, once again, proved that this woman's writing style packs an emotional punch for me... it takes me by surprise, when I least expect it... there I am, reading peacefully and bam! ;) straight in the feels... I may not always agree with what the characters are doing or why, but her books feel honest... I feel that honesty and emotions in the stories she creates... I feel like they are not written to appeal to certain "target group" or something... and that is the best way to be an author... write what feels right and honest to you and readers will appreciate it... :) I simply cannot wait what other books she will make for us :) oh, I almost forgot :) I absolutely loved to read about first time between a young teenagers that was awkward and a little bit clumsy... it was truly refreshing... not to mention that part about her period ;) I was really afraid it's gonna be one of those it-just-magically-disappeared-for-the-duration-of-the-book types of situations... :)

I don't have quotes for you today, but that's only because they would be too spoilerific :) the story is shorter in itself, since it's just half of what's waiting for us and it's intense from the very beginning... so there was no way for me to pick something out :) but be sure, the writing style is great and the story of Charlotte and Tucker will make you feel all the feels... and I do mean all of them... anger, sadness, joy, hope... *sighs* I can't wait to see how it will end :) especially since I have a feeling I'm gonna love the conclusion more than this one :)

XOXO

“Well, whatever. Anyway, I’m thankful for you. You found me when no one else was even looking. You took this lost shell of a man and fixed me. You returned me to how I used to be, only a better version of the old me. I only have you to thank. And I’m so fucking thankful for that.”

Charlotte would never have imagined that another day at the bank where she works would start so electrifying. And terrifying to say the least. Having a gun pointed at her is frightening, especially when she is alone, unable to call for help, and at the mercy of a quite cross man. This whole situation is a shock. But finding that the person holding the trigger is someone she knows or knew very well is at least disconcerting.
The man too thin, dirty, scruffy and obviously under the influence of some substance looks nothing like the boy she was in love with. Seeing him after so long in a surreal situation is too much for her to handle. And eventually being held hostage may be the end point on that catastrophic day.
Tucker didn't plan this situation. He needed money to buy drugs, and the fact that the bank came out of nowhere was a miracle. And in a bad succession of mistakes, he has just committed a crime, just bought a fair amount of heroin, and needs to hide his hostage in a place where she can’t run away and turn him over to the police. The camp where they spent the summers seems to be the ideal place for such a task.
And with them in this secluded place, we'll follow the story behind their bond, as well as what happened to them becoming the people they are today.
Charlotte from an early age was always controlled by her mother. Her childhood was filled with countless chores, various duties, endless hours of rehearsal and study. With a mother who discounted her own frustrations in his daughter, Charlotte had no friends, no playtime, and no normal childhood. With that, she fell silent and became invisible.
Tucker might be popular and the best player on the team, but his father demanded perfection. Trained to be a star, everything in his life revolved around football. He wanted it or not.
And little by little, because they are neighbors, they get closer. Charlotte loves the attention she gets from him when they are in the garden, but at school he ignores her. And this situation lasts for a long time. She watches him from afar, yearning for recognition and affection as he goes on with his life and only talks to her a few times always in secret. And year after year, this strange bond between them repeats itself. Until Tucker "steals" all of Charlotte's first experiences. And her heart in the process. But one day he leaves without even saying goodbye.
And so, each goes on with his life. Tucker gets recognition for his skills, wins a contract, becomes famous. Until an accident ends his dreams. And start his nightmare.
Merging past and present, the narrative shows these two dealing with the bizarre situation they find in the camp, as well as fighting past feelings and hurts, as well as their own secrets and demons.
When Charlotte is in danger, Tucker risks himself to save her. But the outcome, while predictable, will be cruel to both.
The book shies away from ordinary novels by presenting a protagonist far from perfect. There is no way the situation will have a positive outcome, but even so, the reader finds themselves cheering for the couple. Despite the bad choices, his pain is understandable. Charlotte also suffered, either at the hands of a wicked mother, by Tucker's neglect or by living a life in the shadows. The two meet again and discover a purpose. Too bad the circumstances weren't the best.

This book left me with so many mixed emotions. Really I give it like 3.75 ⭐️. The first of the Captive Hearts series and boy did Carrie leaves us hanging off the edge of a cliff. (Note if you can't handle a cliffie you will want to wait for Found to be released before reading)

WHAT I LIKED:
1.) Character Development. Carrie really took her time with both Charlotte and Tucker. I really felt like I knew and understood them. Carrie was really able to create this sense of an emotional connection not only between Charlotte and Tucker but with the reader as well.
2.) I love that the story is told from a dual POV.
3.) The love between Charlotte and Tucker is not insta-love, it's very hard won. The evolution of their love is beautiful though.
4.) Carrie writes angst and villains really well. I had serious dislike for the people who got in Charlotte and Tucker's way.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
1.) The plot line itself. Charlotte is a perfectionist, the kind you hate because they show up to work 30 minutes early to her job as a financial analyst at the bank. Tucker is a homeless heroin addict. The story begins early one morning when Charlotte is of course at the bank early to get the day started. Tucker comes in and robs the bank at gun point and kidnaps Charlotte using her car as the get away. During the robbery/kidnapping they realize that they were actually childhood next door neighbors. After making a pit stop to buy more heroin he drives them to a deserted summer camp that they attended as children in the Poconos. The story then unfolds from there. The problem I have is the main character is a drug addict who has committed grand larceny armed robbery and kidnapping. How do you come back from that?
2.) As in other Carrie books she jumps back and forth on the timeline. This drives me crazy and is totally disruptive to the story IMO. Seriously Carrie please don't let this be your thing. Either write a proper prologue or start the story out in the past.

Overall I recommend this read. I am looking forward to the release of Found. Carrie I have no clue how you are going to work them out of this hot mess!

Lost due to the pressure of never being good enough

Lost due to being abandoned by everyone and everything

Lost due to being used and kept secret and then thrown away

Lost to the past

Lost to addiction

Lost to the need to hold it all together regardless of the need to fall apart

For all intents and purposes, both Tucker Lynch and Charlotte Morsey are lost souls whose pasts have defined their present and whose current actions have forced their futures to veer down a path that neither of them can come back from because, at first, it’s a journey that Tucker forcibly took Charlotte on and now, it’s an adventure that has finally made Char feel alive and found.

Going into Lost, I really didn’t know what to expect. The synopsis is vague enough to peek interest without offering concrete insight into the story line. Once I got into the text a bit, it made sense what Carrie Aarons was trying to accomplish with Tucker and Charlotte’s current situation juxtaposed with snippets of their past relationship. As a reader, I could clearly see what caused both of them to get off track - one living too hard and one not living at all, and within a chaotic and traumatic situation, they are able to hash out their past mistakes, and in a way, start fresh, only this time, they’ve learned to communicate and have faith that now that they’ve found one another again, they’ll never feel lost or alone. But that might not be a choice for them because past misdeeds might just cause everything to be out of their control.

Tucker and Charlotte’s story focuses on the idea of never being good enough and allowing the pressure that other people put on somebody to override everything else. Tucker kept Charlotte a secret all those years ago, but now that they are back to being “us against the world,” it will be interesting to see if what they lost can be found again, especially with what happens at the end of the story.

This was a dark read and I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. Taking the dark element out of the equation, however, leaves me with a meh feeling. Let me qualify that by saying I have enjoyed the other books I've read by this author. They weren't earth shattering, but I liked them for the most part. There are, however, a few tropes that I just can't stand and the "my parents don't think I'm good enough no matter how hard I try, so I'm just going to sleep around and be a total a-hole to the girl who's in love with me" backstory is one of them. And the h who has harboured this deep abiding love for the a-hole H is pretty pathetic. I mean, I feel bad for her, truly I do. And she doesn't want to want him. I get that. But she still does. And after he kidnaps her, she puts up a good fight, tells her how much of an ass he is, but she still wants him anyway. I just don't know.

What I liked:
1) The dual povs, even though the H is a complete ass for a good three quarters of this book.
2) The h isn't a pushover anymore. Too bad she can't help what she feels for the H.
3) This story is pretty different from what I usually read. I guess that's a plus. I'm just not sure I like what makes this different.

What I didn't like:
1) The H. He's an ass. And he even admits that he is. Cocky, arrogant, self-absorbed...but lucky him. The h saw underneath all that to the real him. Ugh.
2) Stockholm Syndrome is very real, people.
3) Why couldn't the h have a fulfilling life without the H? It was very frustrating. Poor her. He messed her up completely as teenagers and now her heart will only be receptive to him? I feel so bad for her.
4) The turnaround for the H wasn't very believable.

Amazing Storyline

Full disclaimer: I try and write all of my reviews without giving any information about the book away. No storyline, no plot, no spoilers, NADA! So with that being said I give you my review of Lost by Carrie Aarons:

Holy cow!! I honestly did not know what to expect based on the few teasers I had seen. Even the prologue the lovely Carrie Aarons was willing to share only left more to the imagination. But this story was soo well written I honestly without a doubt hope and pray they make it into a Lifetime Movie. It felt so realistic. I didn't know how Carrie was going to be able to make us fall in love with Tucker ESPECIALLY after you learn about his past with Charlotte. I thought there is absolutely no redemption available for this guy. Oh how I was wrong! Not only do you fall in love with him, but you start to fight for him and Charlotte! This book ended on a huge cliffhanger and I am absolutely heart wrenched that I don't know where the story goes next! I need answers, I need a HEA! I need to see Justice served to all the people who influenced Charlotte and Tucker and made them the people they are today! Children shouldn't go through what they went through and I need to see them dealt with accordingly. Okay I need to end this now or I will not hold true to my disclaimer and I still pride myself in never giving anything away haha. In conclusion, FANTASTIC job Mrs Aarons! Tip of the hat goes to you for a fabulously written duet and for the ability to toss in flashbacks that were purposefully timed and added to the story and didn't take anything away from it at all! Way to go lady!
With much love, respect, and admiration

Charlotte Morsey is skirting by in life - she goes to work, goes home and reads books. She's not particularly social and her agenda is pretty structured and limited. But one particular morning, she deviates from her routine and goes in to work at the bank early, stops on the first floor, and suddenly her life goes on a completely different tangent.

Tucker Lynch grew up across the street from Charlotte. They weren't really friends, but they definitely weren't strangers. It's been several years since they've seen each other in person. This first encounter with Tucker face to face after all these years left a less than stellar impression of him. Although Tucker was by no means an awesome person even in the flashbacks of his younger years with the way he treated Charlotte, they helped me to see that he had a heart and soul buried underneath, he was simply way too preoccupied with the limelight of being popular, talented and wanted.

I was intrigued by Tucker's transformation and Charlotte's self-discovery. I didn't think I could be convinced that Tucker would actually be redeemable, but I slowly warmed up to him. I'm still not his biggest fan, but I definitely want to see how the rest of the story plays out in FOUND. As for Charlotte, she's finally got a taste of what she's been missing her whole life so I'm also anxious to see what new direction she will take with her life. The ending wasn't unexpected, it had to come at some point, but it's also a much needed turning point, too.

Lost is the first book in the Captive Heart series. It was completely unexpected. I continually questioned what I would do throughout the story.

The story solely revolves around two characters, Charlotte (Char) and Tucker and their present predicament and past relationship. Tucker has hit rock bottom and desperate times call for desperate measures, which unexpectedly include Char. The story is a bit dark at the beginning but as Tucker and Char's relationship evolves there is a glimmer of hope.

I almost feel that the cover is deceiving, he's too clean, too unblemished. I envision Tucker to be harder, rugged, with visual faults. The cover sets the mood on the story for me. This cover is light hearted, while the story is a bit darker.

The story was totally different then I had expected but none the less captivating. I may not have agreed with Char's decision but I can accept it because in the end she found what she has been missing. I can't wait for the next book. The cliffhanger is a killer. It was difficult to write this review because I don't want to give anything away. 4 Stars!

This book had me all over the place!!! Charlotte works at a bank and it gets robbed by her childhood crush/lover turned drug addict. Tucker kidnaps her, holds her hostage at their old campsite from when they were kids. I honestly don't know why Charlotte didn't leave when Tucker was going through his withdrawal. Instead she stayed with him and made sure he was ok!!!! Um...Really?? I would have gotten in the car and left his ass for all the crap he did!!! So several weeks go by and they finally have a heart to heart and let the past be the past and work on being a couple. I honestly wasn't expecting this turn of events. Even though the book frustrated me in several ways I have to say I did enjoy it in a weird way! They had some tender moments and I did like the flashbacks of each characters. The writing was good and the story line did keep me hooked and I had to keep reading. Plus that ending was something else!! I have to see how Tucker can/will redeem himself and if Charlotte will finally stand up to her mother. So many questions and off to Found I go!!

I received a copy of Lost by Carrie Aarons in exchange for an honest review. Warning...this book ends with a CLIFFHANGER!!! Carrie has you all worked up and then...NO! It just ends...and the reader is now left waiting for the upcoming release of Found to find out what happens....I hate when that happens (or I secretly love it :-)).

One thing that I really enjoyed in this story was the use of flashbacks to tie the story together - to share the history with the main protagonist and antagonist. We learn early on that Charlotte knows her kidnapper, Tucker. It is through the use of flashbacks that we gain valuable insight into these two characters.

A fun read...looking forward to Found.
