Lord Aaron Lyle has one hell of a choice: a bankrupt dukedom, or marriage to some simpering society miss so his spendthrift father can get his hands on her huge dowry. He won’t do it. He has a reputation to maintain, and besides, he’d rather run naked through the streets of London than marry anyone at all. Surely, there must be a third option.

Then Lady Crystal Wilding walk

This might work well for a casual HR reader, but for avid readers like me, it doesn’t really work. It was readable, and that is the most positive I can really say about it. For the most part, this felt rather green. It was ok but nothing gripping or exciting about it. Some of this is going to get rather spoiler, so be forewarned.

The heroine, Lady Crystal, is an advocate for women’s rights in Regency-period Scotland. She is also the daughter of a celebrated war hero. The hero, Lord Lyle, is being

This is my first book by Cathleen Ross and I was so excited for this book based on the synopsis. The hero, Aaron, is being forced to marry against his will because his father, the duke, needs money and heirs. He comes across Crystal, who speaks for women's rights, believes in desire, and has said marriage is not for her, and decides shes the perfect thing to stir up his family.

Unfortunately this book was just not for me. I can't say I could get into Crystal much after she says a lot of shocking

An Unsuitable Lady for a Lord by Cathleen Ross is a charming historical romance wrapped up in powerful layers of equality and women's rights. Set in Scotland, Lady Crystal captivates Lord Aaron. He finds himself fed up with the marriage game and all the suitable candidates thrown his way turn him off. Meeting Lady Crystal and her unforgettable speech on desire changes him in ways that he never dreamed would happen...but he still is not willing to get married just to please his father.

Loved it!

Such an interesting read, Cathleen captured the period very nicely, dealing with topical issues sadly still relevant today on arranged marriages and human trade into slavery, writing with a passion which came through clearly via her gorgeous characters. Definitely recommended reading if you don’t mind a little sexy sauciness.

Really enjoyed this historical romance. The author has created a character in the heroine who is both innocent and feisty. I loved that. I also really liked the hero and it was interesting to get the male perspective of also being forced into a marriage he didn't want.
Very enjoyable read with great characters!

Thank you netgalley and Entangled Publishing for the book to read and review. This was my first historical romance and it was so good! Fast paced, witty banter, romance, and great plot! All of my favorite things. Crystal was the perfect historical romance heroine. Smart, sassy, and assertive. She has the unorthodox opinion that women should be able to pick their husband and do away with arranged marriages. Strangely enough, Lord Lyle is of the same opinion for men! I enjoyed this cute love story ...more

It was such a delight to read this book. I read it in one sitting, not necessarily because of its short length, but because I was so mesmerized by the characters, their story and their fun conversations. It’s one of those books that can offer a great reading time.

Ok, why do I like it? We have one lord under pressure from his father to choose one of the proper ladies he has in store to be his wife. Still, Aaron Lyle is not particularly fond of the idea, or any of those young women for that matter

This is a regency story with a difference, set in Scotland it is a journey to a beautiful HEA for the beautiful Lady Crystal Wilding and Lord Aaron Lyle these two are drawn together in the shared belief that people should be able to choose their life partners and their belief in helping people as well as a very sensual thread that draws them closer at every meeting.

Lord Aaron Lyle is being pressured into marriage by his father to benefit the family coffers, but Aaron is not happy with this situa

An Unsuitable Lady for a Lord by Cathleen Ross is absolutely breathtaking!

When the book starts you are introduced to Lady Crystal Wilding who comes from the highlands. Her father was Earl Wilding who you find died in battle most recently. She comes from a noble family but has views about men and women marrying for "love" instead of duty. This was around the time when marriages were still arranged between noble families usually for money or land rather than "love."

You also meet Marquess Lyle. Yo

I loved it! It's a story about two unconventional people trying to fight what society expected of them. Lady Crystal Wilding is no meek lady. She has opinions and she isn't afraid of voicing them. Her sole purpose in life is to champion women's education and much-needed freedom. Lord Aaron Lyle is just trying to find a way out of arranged marriage. He hates the women his father chooses for him and wants to have the freedom to select his own wife. When the two meet, sparks fly but more than that ...more

The lady's selective constant parroting of the phrase "white slavery" through out the book was jarring when slavery in it's entirety would be considered as being abhorrent regardless of race. The second star is for the cover. ...more

2 Stars. Because I finished it but did not enjoy it.

I guess I unknowingly look for certain things in a regency/historical romance novel. And this book did not have it.

The concept sounded good. And good on the author for creating a strong female lead to have in such an era, when it was clear that men thought otherwise about women. This book being the example of that. And good on the book for consistently sticking with that. When meeting his family, her beliefs were t

Crystal is ahead of her times in the ways she thinks. She is beautiful and fierce. Aaron is being hounded to marry by his father. When he meets the enigmatic Crystal he is instantly attracted and comes up with a plan. The story is fast paced and often funny. The racers are outspoken and fervent in their beliefs. It is a book filled with hope and joy. A great story with characters to love.

Cathleen Ross's first Regency romance is absolutely wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful tale and everything about its engaging hero, a swoon-worthy marquis who is torn between duty and following his heart’s desire, and a feisty, outspoken bluestocking. Lady Crystal Wilding is well-drawn, relatable, and definitely a young woman ahead of her time; her honesty, passion for her cause—advocacy for women’s rights and improving the education of poor, working-class women in Edinburgh—and her ...more

I was amused from the very beginning where Lord Lyle and Lady Crystal meet right before she's set to give a talk. He insults her before realizing she's the speaker. Her speech further intrigues him. He's determined to get to know her better.
He has to get married. She has no plans of giving up her freedom.
These two had good chemistry on the page. I loved that Lady Crystal wasn't the typical lady of the times. She's not afraid to speak her mind.

Wow! This was an incredible story, at first I thought it may be boring, but I was so wrong. The depth was fantastic and the emotions so real. The hero was pretty foolish, but men can be quite foolish when it comes to infatuation and passion. So in reality it was realistic.
I liked that the heroine, despite her insecurities, in the end stood up for herself.

A delightful and entertaining read. Orphaned, Lady Crystal has a low opinion of men and of marriage. Lacking her father’s control, she is apt to do as she pleases. She has many progressive ideas, and being tied in marriage, to a man she hardly knows is not one of them. After a speaking engagement at Sir Walter Scott’s house goes wrong, she is the talk of the town.
Lord Lyle is being hounded to marry, to save his family estate, to fulfil his duty. Entirely suitable rich young women candidates are

Lady Crystal Wilding has controversial ( at this time ) ideas about women and their education. She was determined that more women would learn to read and write to enable them to have an improved way of earning a living. When giving one of her speeches she meets Aaron, Marquess of Lyle. A fun and sometimes slightly cheesy historical romance about Lord Aaron Lyle, a high society lad avoiding marriage with an almost bankrupt dukedom, and Lady Crystal Wilding, an heiress who speaks her mind freely. A cute and quirky novel that entertained.

Another page-turning story from Ms Ross. In fact, I think it's her best yet and hope she writes more historical romances. I loved her feisty, take-no-prisoners, blue-stocking heroine. Lady Crystal. Lord Aaron proved a worthy match, and I really loved his conflict! Both characters are ahead of their times in their attitudes to society and what is expected of them and they both continually pushed back against these social mores and each other. I was excited to read this as it was my first Cathleen Ross book but it was just not for me. There was nothing exciting or astonishing about this as everything felt predictable, boring, and slow. A duke needs to money and heirs so he marries off his son against his will.Suddenly there is a woman who has a voice and speaks her mind, This is the woman who Aaron (the hero) is forced to marry. This was a strong "enemies to lovers" trope, which I am normally a fan of, but it simply did not work in th ...more

What a fabulous book! Cathleen Ross has written a brilliantly strong, smart heroine who is driven by a need to help other women. There was so much to be admired about her character, if she was flesh and blood I’d love to count her as a friend.
And who could fail to fall in love with such a determined hero?
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the next regency romance from Cathleen Ross.

This book had such promise with it's description on the back cover. The hero is seeking a rich, young wife because his father wants more money. The heroine is a woman rights advocate who swears never to marry, but the family coffers are empty. The hero decides to take the heroine home to try to persuade his father that this is who he is courting. But it doesn't make sense. Why would you court a poor lady when you need a wealthy bride? Why drag her home to meet the family when she is causing diss ...more
